My feeling is that while its a nice phone, as someone with a 4S you have to do some deep DEEP soul searching to justify upgrading to it right now. As stated in the earlier thread, I'll wait for the 5S and see the phone they *really* wanted to build.

yes. this is what I'm thinking, too. I'll stick with my 4S for another year at least.

but, when we look at the market as a whole, Apple never expects a significant portion of current model users to upgrade to the new model. they know a few will, but it's all about getting new users or 3GS or 4 users to upgrade. I think there's too many people on Gaf who forget this.

im in the same predicament. i have an iphone 4 with unlimited data with at&t. i think sprint is the only carrier that has true unlimited LTE service. But im not sure how their service is.




edit: i have a friend who had unlimited data with at&t and an iphone. he upgraded his phone to a galaxy 3 and they gave him unlimited 4g service soooooooo i dunno.

don't listen to this human being. 3GS is a piece of shit in comparison for the retina display alone. That's just how it is. Maybe not a big deal for you but it's a huge damn deal in general. That's ignoring absolutely everything else.

Hmm I have an old 3GS but I think I have an unlimited data plan. I guess I should call them and ask them what they can do for me. I don't want to have to worry about going over some limit.

For real? point and shot cameras have been doing this for ages and there are tons of apps that do that already.

As a matter of fact, Photosynth for iOS does it way better.

Do the panorama apps work like what they show in the video (@ 3:45)? If so, that's pretty great, never realized it was done so seamlessly, always thought they were apps that stitched multiple pictures together. The way it looks in the video makes it seem so effortless, just pan the phone and done.

Can I ask you a question? What are you wanting/expecting in the 5S, in the 'phone they *really* wanted to build. You know it will in all likelihood look identical. So, what are the major changes you expect to see? Can you provide a list? I'm curious, because apart from spec upgrades, I can't think of anything major.

And yeah, if I was a 4S owner, I wouldn't jump on this, but then again, I don't see why those that own that phone are so compelled to replace it less than a year after launch, or why they believe Apple should market this phone solely to them.

Ack, so I'm not really a big Apple guy (simply because I'm a dumb phone user and don't want to shell out for a data plan) but this keynote did have pretty much the one thing that I was interested in, that being an upgrade to the iPod Touch. There is tons of goodness on the AppStore these days, and I'd love to get in on some of that with an improved Touch. But man that price still stings, $300 for the base improved model is just still too rich for my blood.
