gerg said:I don't think the tower looks that bad, actually, and certainly judging it on the basis of the photos in the article is premature, at best. (The tower is not complete; the title of this thread is actually incorrect.) According to Anish Kapoor, the building is meant to seem unstable, I presume to provide the energy associated with that. Personally, I think that the design meets those goals quite admirably. To complaints that this doesn't look "stylish" or "elegant", I would retort: In some senses, it's not meant to.
But, I do recognise that this is a public piece of art, and if the public wants something a bit more banal and uninteresting, then, well, that should probably be preferred.
(I would say something similar of the Olympics logo. I long have defended it as being much more interesting than what you normally see with these designs, but ultimately if the public at large dislike it then I don't think it is appropriate. Granted, the logo is still better than Japan's 1964 Summer Olympics logo.)

British manufacturing!

Bootaaay said:That thing is fucking disgusting and another reason for me to hate the Olympics with a passion. I don't know a single person who is looking forward to the Olympics, and even know a few planning to leave the country on holiday...
Bootaaay said:Even with all this crazy/shit modern architecture adorning our skyline, the rest of the country's just jealous of how much better London is than any of their cities.

Fits with the current style, shit.

I don't want to imagine how much of land had to be cleared for this "monument". I bet people aren't allowed to camp or use the perimeters other than for showcasing on the opening "celebration" for this structure.

fortified_concept said:I think we actually agree on most stuff. What we disagree on is whether something not stylish or elegant should be in public view at that size.
And btw something doesn't have to look uninteresting or banal to look nice.
Willy105 said:Well, at least the UK is building stuff.
Here in the US we're doing nothing but cutting.
Haha, I'm English so I don't care anyway, but the poster was for the cultural festival around the Olympics. Sticking a poster saying "London Festival 2012" and "near you" in Glasgow is a bit silly by any means, so not a team GB issue.Suairyu said:In the Olympics it is team GB, not England and Scotland. We are one team for the duration so you guys can stop being such sour pusses for the duration, aight?
If the richest man in the country wants to waste 20 million quid why bother stopping himKatana_Strikes said:What a fucking waste of millions.
