Awesome, we don't need something winning twice in a rowThe rules will be updated this year. Don't expect to vote for remastered games.

So last year I could have voted for Earthbound? Dangit.
It's not the rule I have a problem with, it's the convenience of changing it this year specifically. No other year would a Remaster have ever had a chance to get anywhere in the list, it's like they're doing it now out of fear of TLoU and GTA, and I don't care if they claim that's not the case and this has been planned for years. I don't believe it.Eh, I can understand it. I can understand those who disagree too, but limiting it to new games isn't a horrible idea at all.
In fact, I think the Left Behind DLC is closer to Reaper of Souls from Diablo 3 or other similar expansion packs that still require the original game. Not a vote for the original game, though.
Gotta hope that kind of thing is eligiable
You know, this post nails it.Citizen Kane wasn't up for Best Picture when it was released on blu-ray.
So no.
Are we going to have a game of the generation vote soon as well considering all the big titles for old gen are out now?

If Dark Souls 2 is my GotY next year, so be it, I can't vote for it, that's fine, but they're doing it now because two of the best games this year count, and counted last year.
If you didn't vote for the likes of TLoU or GTA V last year, then I don't see why you shouldn't be able to vote for them this year. Obviously, if you played both games and included them in your top ten for the 2013 voting thread, they should be ineligible for your own personal list this time around.
pls no
I hope not
Hoping they won't
What is the Citizen Kane of Video Game Remasters tho?Citizen Kane wasn't up for Best Picture when it was released on blu-ray.

As someone that only played TLOU on PS4, I feel like it deserves to be on my list, however I see a case happening where people played it 2 years in a row and will count it as GOTY twice and I don't feel like that's right.
It seems like time should probably be a bit of a factor, but maybe that's just up to voters. Releasing a GTAV -> GTAV+ type upgrade of a decade old game would seem eligible to me (i.e. WW:HD last year). Releasing it a couple years after the original release just feels like overpriced downloadable content. But I guess voters can decide. For GTAV, I'd make the argument that the upgrades have been significant enough to warrant eligibility. Same with Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Not sure about TLoU.
But they can't...But I guess voters can decide.
Its not about 'convenience', as if some people are trying to rig the game to favour any certain games, they just want to see a more interesting result than a rehash of what we already know as two classics in the making winning again. It's not the rule I have a problem with, it's the convenience of changing it this year specifically. Should be counted, but separately. Have two categories... one GOTY tier that's just brand-new games, and have another that includes everything. I actually think it'd be interesting to see the balance and what both lists look like with/without the remasters. I like data, though.![]()

When's the thread going up? I have my post ready to go. Except the Left Behind talk has me doubting. I didn't think of putting DLC on my list, so I don't think I'll change it now.
Yea, that would absolutely be ideal, but maybe a bit messy for presentation's sake.Should be counted, but separately. Personally I hope not, to me a GOTY for 2014 should be for a game I couldn't play prior to 2014, but that's just my opinion
If MGS 4 can win two GOTY awards in a row, TLoU can easily do that with it's remaster.

Could a sequel film win best picture of the year? Yes, it's happened (once). Could a rerelease win best picture of the year? Yes, it could (Although that has never happened).
It isn't that these films are literally banned from being considered, it's that most mediums value originality and creativity, and nothing is as unoriginal and uncreative as a movie that literally already came out, just with slightly fewer pixels or slightly worse special effects or something.
What voting for a re-release would suggest of the "hardcore" gaming community is that we place little or no value or originality and creativity, which is a criticism that is already leveled at us, as we approach Final Fantasy XV and MGS5 and GTAVI and Call of Duty 473.
I don't think giving weight to those beliefs is a particularly good idea.
