Final Fantasy vs Zelda became a thing back when sony and nintendo fanboys argued over FF7 vs Zelda OoT. Which franchise have you prefered over the decades?

Definitely both. Both offer incredible gaming experiences.

Used to be more into Final Fantasy than Zelda.
But 7Remake is the first one I've liked in almost 20 years while Zelda has had several good games in that time, so I'd say now I'm more into Zelda

Well, I haven't given FFXV a chance yet, but the most recent FF game I've played is X.

I used to consider myself a huge Final Fantasy fan, though. I loved VI and VII a lot. X is pretty good. It just seems like it's all down hill from there and Square forgot how to make a jRPG.

So I voted that I prefer the Zelda games. Even a bad Zelda game is usually fun on the first playthrough.

Zelda for sure. It puts more of an emphasis on adventure and exploration, and I like Zelda's emphasis on real time action-based combat.

In general, I'm just not a fan of JRPGs or turned based combat.

Definitely more of a FF fan (i have played almost all of the main ones and a lot of the spin-offs) but i also like the Zelda series. Later FF entries have mostly disappointed me though.

Tough...

My love for FF goes further back, but the new ones aren't any good anymore.

So Zelda takes the cake for me. I'm more of a Zelda fan for sure..

FF has been in decline for almost two decades, FFVII Remake being the sole bright spot. The Zelda series has a way better track record for quality.

Both series have highs and lows. Luckily for both the lows are still solid games.

Great/Good/OK

Oot = Great
MM = Great*
WW = Great*
TP = Good
Skyward Sword = OK
BoTW= Great

FFVII = Great
FFVIII = OK
FFIX = Good
FFX = Great
FFXII = Good
FFXIII = Good
FFXV = Good
FFVIIR = Great

Huge fan of both series. Probably give Zelda games more attention due to the fact they often bring more interesting new game design elements.

*Love/Hate for some fans

Personally, the latest main entries for both, FFXV and Breath of the Wild, went open-world action RPG with lots of side quests - a type of game I don't want either franchise to be.

BotW was still a good game, but I personally find it very overrated and not what I want from Zelda. FFXV is just plain bad and I hate that it is actually a numbered Final Fantasy game.

However, other newer games and remakes in both franchises have been great. I loved FF7R, Link's Awakening and FFXIV.

Zelda by a long shot, I mean hookshot. I am replaying The remasters to entertain my kid. They stand up well despite a few annoying choices and he likes the exploration and dungeons. I probably leant FF back in the SNES days because I had a much higher tolerance for reading text boxes.

I can't remember enjoying FF the way I did IV-IX since then. The recent ones, as in last 3 gens, have been meh. I recently played DQXI on Switch - way better than any FF after 9.

Zelda. Never completed an FF game. In fact, the vast majority of games in the series looks very unappealing to me. The only ones I intend on playing any time soon are 6, 7, (Tactics too if you count that) and maybe 4 & 9. The rest are either all very archaic (first 3), lacking much of a story ( first 3 and 5) MMO (11 & 14), or looks so cringe and embarrassing in character designs and story (the rest).

FF7, FF9, FFT, FF10 (minus the laugh), FF12 > Zelda

story, tactical gameplay ATB, no camera issues, more content, better bosses, bigger worlds, more value, more grind* (i likes me some grind!), no dumb flute, no annoying "LISTEN!" companion, more characters, more fun, way better score ... i pers. would put Alundra, Suikoden, BoF, Growlanser above Zelda. But if sandbox open world is your thing. ZELDA should have remained 2D!

The more apt comparison would be Dragon Warrior vs Zelda?

I think it's weird to compare since they're different game genres (The Legend of Zelda is not an RPG) but my vote goes to Final Fantasy as I've completed multiple games in that series whereas every The Legend of Zelda game that I start, I never finished, though I got as far as the final boss in A Link Between Worlds.

I feel like I failed as a gamer, for years I forced myself to like both of these games, but ending up frustrating. I tried. I'm surrounded by people who love this game. And I can't be part of that convo. It's sad.

Zelda has the higher highs, with Majora's Mask being at #1 all time for me compared to FFVI at #4. LA and WW both come before the next FF on the list, but I do need to replay some of VII and IX again because it's been many years so I want to give them their fair shake. It is also way more consistent, with few mediocre let alone bad games.

FF peaked earlier with the SNES holy trinity, and then with the great VII and IX the next generation. After that though major production issues plagued them. I love X despite many flaws, X-2 has the best battle system in the series but is a trainwreck otherwise, XII has the wrong protagonist and has other various issues thanks to major production problems, XIII is a dumpster fire, FFXIV 1.0 was a landfill fire, and XV took forever to actually get released from initial concept as Versus XIII, especially being made for too long on a failed engine, and it was a straight up incomplete game for a long time after launch.

Square somehow made the most iconic RPG video game series become an afterthought compared to relative newcomers. FFVIIR and Shadowbringers are the first real steps they've taken to regaining the prestige of the series.

Zelda has had more consistently games lately, so I'll choose that. I think of myself as a final fantasy fan, but I've been more disappointed with the series than anything for a while. I did really liked FF7R so maybe there is some hope.

I like both but if you put me at gun point and said one has to go it's gonna have to be Zelda.

FF IX is in my top 5 and while I worship Breath of the Wild and praise Wind Waker and Fedora's Mask they're probably in the top 20 somewhere.

While I obviously like both, there's a pretty clear difference in how much emphasis they put on story and it's amusing to me how Zelda still manages to consistently deliver deeper messages and more interesting lore.

If they never came out and made official timelines you'd still have 40 year old men yelling at each other about it over the internet. Lmao.

Only because because until Nintendo published the official timeline, some big brains refused to accept that the dual timeline was real.

mostly final fantasy since I've actually beaten several of those games. I've dabbled in a couple of zeldas and gotten near the end of ocarina of time but that is about it.

Only Zelda I truely enjoyed is a link between worlds. But it was enough to make me a fan.

More final fantasy games are in my goat list.

Definitely more of a Final Fantasy fan. I love 2D Zeldas like ALttP and LA, but the 3D ones I could never get into.
