I'm more a Final Fantasy fan.
But both Zelda and Final Fantasy saga are truly amazing.

Two of the most iconic and surprising videogame sagas ever made.
(in the Olympus of the videogame sagas together with Super Mario, Street Fighter, Tetris, and many others)

I have wonderful memories related to both brands. Memories of emotions that have kept me going throughout my life as a gamer. And that I will never forget.
Exciting and exceptional adventures

I like FF more but it fell off hard. Zelda has kept doing what it does but they are all pretty good. Can't say the same for FF.

skyward sword was crap

BotW is good, but I find the overworld too empty with not a lot of unique stuff to discover.

Zelda has always been about the same hack and slash formula since conception, and simplistic yet repetitive plot of saving Zelda from Ganon. Do fans ever get sick of it? No, not broke don't fix right? If may make a simple analogy, Zelda fan are the type that will always eat vanilla ice cream every single time, never knowing the delicacy of other flavors. Final Fantasy at least try to be innovative, different story and gameplay with each new games. Sure there's a lot of hits or miss, but that's all part of taking the risks, they deserve respect for that. Final Fantasy fans are not afraid to try different flavors of ice cream, cause they're bold and brave and gain a new level up through experience.

Both. Two of my favourite sagas without a doubt. I think Zelda has been more stable in terms of consistent quality but if I have to choose I would probably pick FF.

I always applaud Nintendo's carefulness with the Zelda series, has the story been a little misguided? Yes, Zelda games have never kissed up to fads, it's the ultimate meal ticket for Nintendo and an all-time great.

Neither at this point, although I've been curious about the FF7 remake and I've thought about getting a Switch just to sample Zelda. I'm tired of normal mainstream gaming, I know that much.

I want to get into the FF games but I know it would be one of those series that consumes me. FF and Fire Emblem both probably. I have like an RPG phobia lol, I only allow Mario + friends, The Legend of Zelda to fill in for that category because I know I'd become hardcore addicted

The very first three TLOZ games were more or less save Zelda but from Ocarina of Time onward, her role has been more of a highly capable and active ally, more so than a damsel in distress. To say Princess Zelda is constantly being captured is kind of misleading. Zelda is always targeted and attacked but seldom is she captured for long. I would say that the stories are more complex than you're giving them credit for too. The connection between the three (Zelda, Link, Ganon) is kind of complex when you really dive into the story and such, but to say Princess Zelda is constantly being captured is false. She gets captured in most games at some point but has always fulfilled her duties and fought admirably in every single 3D TLOZ game to date

Never been a Zelda fan or (personally) understood its appeal. Last FF game I completed was XIII, and haven't been able to finish an entry since. I do go back to XIV from time to time, but that's not comparable to a mainline title.

This is a special question for me. I was the first gamer in my family, so I was completely sheltered from all aspects of the hobby until I decided to nose dive straight into the deep end at the age of ten. First video game I ever played was Ocarina of Time, and the second game I actually completed to the end credits was actually Final Fantasy VII.

So both of those franchises (and more specifically those entries in particular) have just had a HUGE impact on my life in general, cementing my favorite hobby, my appreciation of interactive story telling and character driven works in general, and even groups of people I would come to associate with. Seems like every other week FFVII or OoT swap places for first and second for me overall, but in general, I probably have to lean towards Final Fantasy as my favorite IP.

Last time I owned a Nintendo console was when the Wii U came out (fucking lawl) and that ended up being collateral in a relationship that ended, so the last Zelda game I played was Skyward Sword and I haven't really seen enough to warrant the cost of admission to get back into the Nintendo corner of gaming right now.

Older FFs (up to X) aren't very long. For example VII and IX take around 40 hours. VI takes only 30-something hours. Not much longer than the average Zelda game I think.

I like both I'd say Zelda has been more consistently good, but when Final Fantasy is good it's a treat.

i think FF just had more consistency.. they had the SNES years (5 and the amazing 6) and three more huge hits (arguably bigger "hits", for various reasons) in the PS1 years (7, 8, 9) and at least one great on PS2 (10... but not 10-2, omg fuck no!). everything before and after that is debatable (im excluding 11 and 14 and 7-remake).

with zelda, you had only one on SNES (i know people love zelda 1, and some love 2, but most remember a link to the past more than zelda 1, much like more remember FF5 and 6 more than they remember 1, 2 or 3), one on the N64 (arguably one of the best games of all time, so its got a lot going for it right here), then just one on gamecube (wind waker, well received for the most part, but not including four swords because there was a handheld component to that), then on the wii you had one which is of course twilight princess (not well received for whatever reason, even though i think it was good, but admittedly i never finished it, so i think that says something), then only one of wiiU (skyward sword which was not received well AND i didnt like it), and then of course breath of thr wild which became my favorite game of all time, hands down no contest.

so i think that run from 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in FF is what really gave them their huge lead. with breath of the wild, zelda definitely has made huge strides in catching up (for my personal tastes at least), but it's going to need more good zelda games, consistently before i can say i prefer it over FF

i am a fuckin nerd

They're not really comparable because they're different genres of game, but... Zelda is more consistent, where Final Fantasy has higher highs and massively lower-lows.

They are pretty different games OP, but I gotta go with Zelda, they are more consistent games usually have some good replay value, with FF most are just good not great.

Both as a whole, but FF XIII and XV disappointed me so much that if they were the only chapters I would just call FF average.

I grew up with Zelda so there is that.
However, I have also enjoyed FF over the years.

I'll jump in with FFIV as my first 2D FF soon

Zelda from 2 on, and FF from NES to PS1. I don't like the direction the series has been on with all the futurisitic and overly Nomura stuff.

Both but I've liked nearly all the Zelda games I've played but I can't say the same for ff. But I love moogles and chocobos so much over any one specific Zelda thing

What's interesting is I didn't have a ton of Zelda experience past the original on NES. My first love affair with Zelda was Ocarina of Time. Zelda was neat on NES and I didn't own Link to the Past for a long time. I had Super Metroid and other various games. I enjoyed what I played and I own or owned most of all the Zelda games to date. However, I've spent countless hours playing Final Fantasy until there's no real question to which I prefer.

Zelda games are like eating at a fancy restaurant that you can't afford going to all the time. Playing Skyward Sword, BotW, Twilight Princess, and the other games once or twice to completition is that dinner at the fancy restaurant. It's good for a while. I also had a huge moment with OOT when it launched. Those first screenshots from Japan were epic.

Final Fantasy has been in my life since I owned all of them on PS1. I reserved Chronicles and Anthologies too. I own all of them on PS1, PC, smart phone, and the newer consoles. I've spent more money on Final Fantasy. I remember being more excited about picking up Final Fantasy VIII than playing my Sega Dreamcast.

I would say both though. There's nothing quite like that new Zelda experience. I wish Final Fantasy had a more serious tone of fantasy versus just adding Final Fantasy creatures to their games. I miss that feeling Final Fantasy has when it first comes out. After XIII, things didn't feel like they use to. I think the brand sells itself, but it has a very mix bag of fans. I can take it or leave it with the series.

Zelda is great, but it leaves a huge hole until the next game comes out. Some fans can play the games all the time. The one game I can always turn on and enjoy is Ocarina of Time. I haven't exactly had that type of obsession with a Zelda game since OOT. I collected all the hearts in Twilight Princess on GameCube years ago. I'd just rather play OOT again.
