I hope it's ok if I dump a few pics from this previous week of play:

You should start using abload.de or minus.com for screenshots. Imgur compresses images so much that my eyes hurts. :(
And another gif I just did. I love the ricocheting bullets.

Build 0.5.102980 was just pushed on the development branch.
I'm testing it right now. It's backwards compatible.
edit: and I got my first ingame crash. Might have been the shoddy Wasteland server I joined.
With what, exactly? I heard it's ArmA II OA and TOH, but it's not recognizing ArmA II OA, and I don't have TOH. Do they have to be brought into the ArmA III directory?
Eh? Try closing steam and starting it again. Also make sure you are opted into the beta patches

Type: Public Alpha
Branch: Development
Version: 0.5.102980
* merges from Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead beta / Take On Helicopters
* tons of crashfixes
* some fixes
remember it might be more buggy / less stable for some ..

It's the code merge they mentioned a few days ago, not the ability to load legacy content in Arma 3.

Those vehicle-gun screens in the backseat seem to tank my FPS pretty damn good. Pain the ass.
Is there any way to edit my .cfg files (think it was that) like in Arma 2? After playing some co-op missions last night I wanna fine tune some settings.
Even though it currently kills FPS, render-to-texture finally gives us the possibility of optics that only magnify via the scope and not the rest, right?
What is up with what seems like every server running Wasteland? I think I missed that phase in ARMA2.
It's hard to find a COOP game in the limited servers that are running that isn't either chaos or run by some armchair generals who try to restrict everything. The most fun I've had so far is the one or two times I've ended up working together with people but not to the point where you couldn't get a ride because you weren't in the right squad.
I was hoping this would end in Arma 2, most servers are Wasteland and Zombie sandbox. :-/What is up with what seems like every server running Wasteland? I think I missed that phase in ARMA2.

How much of an improvement in visuals should we expect from Alpha to release?
hahaha, helicopter iPod!
Online is unplayable at the moment due to the seagull bug (caused by a buggy dev build update).
Anytime a player with the dev build version joins a server everyone turns into seagulls.

hi guys, I'm relatively new to Arma, played a lot of DayZ and have been really enjoying Arma3.
is there a gaf server ( preferable UK/European ) I could maybe get onto...just to learn more about the game and play with some likeminded people?
Sorry if this has been covered before.
thanks in advance
Add me on Steam, I play most nights and I am based in the UK.
Steam ID: Jburton.
A 112MB Patch was just applied to the development branch of builds, Ohhh exciting
I hope in the future, I can play my own custom music when flying Gaf group around in ArmA3/DayZ.

Quick update: a new Development version should be published now. This one has a version number incompatible with the default branch. Do note that we will change that specific number again tomorrow to be more consistent. The main point is: cross-joining between the branches will no longer be possible.
12-03-2013
Cross-joining default and Development branch disabled in MP
Ifrit config class names changed to O_Ifrit_F and similar
Various artwork fixes and tweaks in materials, textures and passenger animations
Active Development branch is now indicated in the main menu
Showcase: Helicopters - optimization and conversation timings
Various other showcase fixes
Multiple crash opportunities fixed
Set PIP to Low or Off in the video options screen
Graphically, all they really need to do:
Get a lot better texture for the ground/terrain ( from a heli it is very good, when on the ground and the when you look at a near by mountain were the grass is not spawned it looks as bad as arma 2)
Pretty much impossible, the terrain textures is constructed from commercially available satellite images and what you see is pretty much as detailed as it can get. BI doesn't have access to military grade quality satellite images. (one pixel is about one square meter)
The only way to incorporate higher quality terrain textures is to upscale their terrain texture and manually add more detail, but this can take up years with the staff they can afford, especially with the 350 square km map they plan for the final
Their solution is to use the terrain texture as a sort of blend map, to blend in higher detailed textures to look like grass or ground, etc. a sort of noise map. This works nicely in combination with grass planes within a certain area around the player, but beyond that area, the grass isn't rendered, nor is the basic texture of high enough resolution.
Make grass cover a lot more distance by default, such a big thing that I think the devs are not really putting much attention too.
Possible, but very taxing. I imagine they rather want to use the resources for other things.
Maybe try to improve those trees ( the one with those pines/pointy leave). They look great up close buy once you get further away they look horrible, like 2002 horrible.
This is also a result of their LOD system, (battlefield 3 does the same thing)
All in all, even for alpha it looks very good graphically, especially when you consider the scale.
I do hope they add a lot of civilian cars though!
As long as the team is working on offloading shit onto the GPU I'll be happy.
Can't offload CPU operations into the GPU like that. They need to work on multi-core utilization.
Funny thing is IN game my GPU usage is between 30 to 70% ( averages like 40 to 50%) yet in the menus or when i pause the game it's at like 80 to 99%
