Please share :)

Create your new profile, exit the game and open your Documents folder where you'll see two folders;

ArmA 3 Alpha

ArmA 3 Alpha - Other Profiles.

Take the NAME.ArmA3AlphaProfile and NAME.vars.ArmA3AlphaProfile from the "ArmA 3 Alpha" folder ( Default profile ) and copy them somewhere. Rename just the name part to your new profile name and drop them into your "Other Profiles" folder and overwrite.

Hope that made sense.

Sometimes it doesn't populate properly after you've exited a game. Drop back to main menu and start MP again, that should fix it.

So yeah, official word came down from the developers, they are taking the fan interest in up porting all the Arma 2 content to heart and have decided to do an official patch that will merge all the arma 2/OA content you own into 3.

This is great news. I was telling my buddy to buy them as this was gonna happen. But he doesn't believe me and doesn't want to buy them because the graphics are "bad". People continuously disappointing me.

Thanks Gruso, will go through the list of custom content soon. Any editor created missions you can recommend? My experience with the editor from the first Arma on is just to plunk a few dozen of each side down and have civilians parachute in and just enjoy the carnage :D

Their plan for legacy support basically is awesome to hear. Hell, most PC games don't even get mod tools anymore and here they are providing modding and now helping to make their previous titles and mods accessible with ArmA 3 as well. Really amazing stuff.

Now are other people experiencing some decent servers in MP now? It seems really hit or miss with most of them being pretty bad performance wise, but I've somehow found a few that were at 40 FPS and completely playable in coop with 12 others. I know it should run better than larger servers obviously, but even most of the small ones had problems in the same exact areas of the map with even less going on sometimes. So MP performance might not be anywhere near where it should be, but it was nice to find a few that actually made it completely playable too. I'm glad when I can find a few places to play that aren't framerate capped.

Yeah. This is basically how it will be for a while. It most likely will never perform optimally, but it'll be enough for you to have a very enjoyable game.

I found a high pop count TDM server that ran at 40-60fps. That was a lot of fun.

Tried going back to Arma 2 tonight just for fun. It's unplayable. That mouse aim sucks so much. The mouse aim in Arma 3 is perfect. Actually, it's probably the best I've ever experienced in a game. Even at 30fps, and with vsync on, it feels like there's next to no input lag. I guess they don't have any frame queuing going on.

Any words from devs about actually using steamworks stuff like adequate server browser, clouds etc.?

Also, Sethos, what's your steam profile?

Not sure but they're using Gamespy for multiplayer, not Steam.

I suspect they do this for multiple reasons. Not that I am condoning it. It made it easier for people to use custom server browsers or stuff like TheAllSeeinEye (yes lol). It seems to work at least as good as ArmA II so I can't say I'm worried right now.

Maybe someone can help me out, I can't get the Shack Tactical HUD to work at all. Got the addons for @sthud and @CBA_A3 in my ArmA 3 Alpha/addons folder and am launching the game with '-mod=@sthud;@CBA_A3' and it just doesn't work. :(

Try dropping them out in your main folder, like this;

Just keep the path in the order they are packed.

@CBA_A3/addons/<mod files here> - It would usually look like.

Much better way than dropping them into your addons folder, plus any bikeys etc. the mod comes with can also be added to that folder, @CBA_A3/keys/<keyfiles>

That's right! Been a while since I played ArmA II with mods. Forgot! Thank you! :)

You can't have the shacktac HuD if it's not enabled via host right? I've yet to be able to play a mp game with it on.

I can't remember it exactly. I believe each mod has to be available on the server with a .bikey to allow clients to use the same signed addon. So if I host, all signed addons that are in my folder, are available to use by everyone. If you start up a fresh dedicated server and install no mods, you won't be able to use anything. However it was years ago that I missed around with my clan's server, addons and .bikeys.

I also believe you can add just the signed key to the server, not the entire addon, then you'll be able to use the mod ( Most servers do this ).

I am disappointed with a couple of things and i don't know if they are there just because it's alpha, or they are gonna be there forever.

For example, while the new additions to the movement system and the animations are great, there is still a huge problem specially walking around on the interiors of the buildings, corners, stairs and that kind of stuff are pain in the ass. Is this going to change? Maybe with the lower your weapon mod the game behaves better.

Another thing is the UI, some people says it's much better now, and it's true that they have improve it a little bit, but it's still pretty abysmal. The "space button" contextual menu is still more a problem than a solution, the inventory management it's just barely a little bit better; the F1-F12 keys functions could be implemented in much simpler ways...

I want to believe, and i hope they keep working on the design of some of this kind of aspects of the game, that at the end of the day, are incredible important.

Maybe i have nothing to worry about, maybe they already talked about this kind of stuff on their forums.

PS: Dat Stance UI mod for example, it should be there for the alpha, you really need it if you just want to play the game from a first person perspective.

Thank goodness. I hope this means you can play all of ArmA II's campaigns in III with ease. And with CWR2, you'll have ArmA 0, too! ArmA I is still a mess, and I'm trying to fix it to have it run well in ArmA II, but god did BIS code it in such a strange way. One of the campaigns seems impossible to convert, as BIS never released to tools to dump and convert their assets. :p

I'm agree with you on every point. Still remember the first time I played Arma 2, I couldn't figure out how to enter vehicles / use items / swap weapons. Then someone told me about Scroll. My shock was abysmal.

I was never into the other games for some reason, but this is flooring me. I can see myself making custom scenarios in the editor for years. None of my fixes above are truly working though, I can't play this for longer than 10 minutes per session without a crash.

Surprised there aren't more people in here that are experiencing it, considering how many reports there are on http://feedback.arma3.com/view_all_bug_page.php

never really played arma multiplayer before but will most likely with this one after I learn the mechanics of it. is a headset pretty much a requirement for this game since all the videos I see on it are people talking to each other, and if so, what is a good one to get?

While multiplayer framerate hits are somewhat frequent I've come to terms with that, however the issue I can't get over is how busted the handling of helicopters online is. Almost every server I've played on with the exception of two has had the helicopters teleporting around willy nilly, making any form of attack or defense against them impossible. Really frustrating.

Was wondering, do they plan on adding a drag mechanic into the game? I had a mod installed for it in Arma II but I was almost sure they patched it into the game proper, or at least with the beta patch, so I was surprised to find it's not in Arma III.

Yes and no. You can type in chat but when you are pinned down in a gun fight and shits getting real you will want to yell at your team mates to give them real time info on whats going on. Not 100% needed but highly, highly recommended.

If you want to play with a proper team, do some serious co-op sessions and the likes, a headset is an absolut necessity. However for random multiplayer and the occasional pick-up group of co-op, chatting will do.

The game crashes for me every time I play :(. The next time I launch it doesn't play at all just crashes. After I verify game cache, the game works for about 5 mins and then crashes. Guess I'll have to wait for an update.

thanks for the responses, guess I'll have to start looking for a headset

I just use my normal Sennheisser headphones with a cheap clip-on microphone, works just as well.

that's a good idea,I would of done that with my shure 530s but they broke on me after 5 years. guess I'll just have to look for a full headset instead

I've got some questions for fellow alpha testers:

I currently have the TAB key bound to "Next target" (by default), should I change it to something more useful? (So far I've pressed it in various occasions and nothing happened).

Is it possible to "tag" enemies, so that friendlies can target them faster?

Can I install HUD modifications and still play multiplayer? (considering that certain mods may give me advantages over other players)

Last question, what would you say is the maximum ping that allows for a good online experience? I don't live near the US so most servers have a 180-250 ping (displayed in yellow color)

How many games let you do something like that?

Scale makes ARMA a unique experience in a lot of different ways.

Bohemia Interactive, fighting the potato land since 1999.

I have TAB bound to switching between the 2 optics instantly.

HuD mods I believe must be enabled server side for them to work.

I live in Hawaii and my ping is generally pretty high between 150-300 ms, and while it is noticeable, generally it doesn't present much of a problem. It's such a slower paced game that it's generally not an issue.

Damn good shot. You should make a montage video and put CoD music in it, and bro it up, in the most mockingly way possible, pop that baby on YouTube, Trillion hits guaranteed.

I was thinking of using TAB for switching between sidearm and main weapon without having to use the context menu.

Blitzkrieg is a surprisingly good mode. Every Arma should come with something like that.

I tried playing this today, the only problem was that there were only 8 players or so, and the map is so big that you don't get to see a lot of action. But the mod really shows how flexible the game is, and how good the modding tools are.

You'll be very suprised how little you'll switch between the two. Better to keep it bound to something you'll use more often, Map, optics, Compass. Just my input.

My current re-binds.

½ Key: Change Optics
T: Change Weapons
Spacebar: Stance Adjust
Top Side Mouse Button: Change view
Bottom Side Mouse Button: Walk Toggle.

Well, it works :p

Nice!

I wanted to do something like this yesterday as I couldn't find a not full not wasteland server.

I opened up the editor to see if I could set spawn points and a bullseye target at different ranges to practice shooting, but for a newcomer, it doesn't look easy.

Welp the alpha was fun. But with all the FPS issues and now hackers on every server, I think Iv had my fill. Someone give me a ring with Bohemia wants to make "games"

it's exceptionally easy to set up something like that gif. Just double click the map to place units, set one as the player and click preview.
