I didn't feel bad at all. In locals, my favorite part was using my snake board to bump my opponent's snake board to the other side of the map once I've knocked them off.
You can also be a scumbag and and put your snake board on top of a vacant snake board momentarily.
But yeah, the map becomes a blowup once someone gets knocked off the thing and I'm not actually sure what you're suppose to do once you get knocked off since the bottom of the board has massive defense.
(you're essentially committed to attempting to get back on to your board, but the enemy will camp the thing and the top of the board surprisingly doesn't cover you as well as you think it would)
But yeah, it's a different game and watching people play the thing in rank (on stream or from my perspective) is kind of funny since they don't seem to realize that you can rapid fire your arms and be pretty safe lol
(though the actual optimal way is using late curve... I've hit people off from hella far away by just actually aiming, so I'm just gonna assume that motion controls will definitely have an advantage in this stage since it's the only one where you can throw out both arms and be pretty safe)
How do you unlock/enable the alternate Main Menu music (one with Ribbon Girl vocals)? Someone mentioned it earlier in the thread and I'm sure I heard it playing at one point.
I'm enjoying ARMS a lot, the online has been great for me too - super fast matchmaking. I've just been using Spring Man and toasters to get the basics down and doing pretty good, I feel like I'm missing more than I should be though.

The only real disadvantage of button controls is the lack of wide grab. Walking one way and punching the other is also not that simple with motion controls because you have to twist one controller to the other side, which stops or reduces movement.
I would definitely play a lot more with motion controls if I could simply use the analog stick for movement. Tilting both controllers to move sucks, it's imprecise and unsatisfying. This and block on L3 are baffling decisions to me.

Dunno. All I've done of significance was unlock ranked mode and I have that version of the song.
Some Kid Cobra players with double Slamamanders go buckwild. One player was throwing so many punches that I feel they got Rush 2 times in one round.

Master mummy is good to bait people into attacking you. His block heals so people cant run away from him. Hey have to attack.
You know, I actually like police dog team. The dog is pretty funny and makes for a cool shield to hide behind.
His corner pressure is also kinda scary since you can do a triangle formation type thing and have punches coming from two sides (and the player being pressured doesn't have the physical ability to aim at the dog).
That said, it's a blowup whenever dog gets knocked down and it's the first thing you should attempt to do against the character whenever you knock the cop down since cop is actually pretty awful once he's alone.

Headlock on level 4 Grand Prix was waaaaay easier than he is in Party mode.

I think medium is the sweet spot over long too. I only got 2-3 additional arms using long timer compared to medium. I think medium is probably the best bang for your buck.
I don't believe that tier list. Byte and Barq is probably an A-tier at least. He can really evade a lot of stuff with his high jump and that annoying Barq randomly poking at the most unfortunate situations.
Finally rank 10! I dunno how long I can last there lol.
Go for max time. 12 new arms per game for only 200 yen is a pretty good bargain.

Medium gives you 6+ for 100 though, I think the potential is higher there. I did max time once and only got 9 arms.
I think it really depends. But at the end of the day it all comes down to how good can you hit multiple targets in a row in a short amount of time to fully capitalize.

I've been playing Byte and Barq almost exclusively with the retail version and they certainly are harder to utilize quickly as opposed to some other charcters. I also went with a shield in one hand which pretty much led to me losing constantly but now that I've ditched the shield I'm doing much better and I've also greatly improved with the whole "jump on my dog parry". I would say that tier list is clearly based on who is easiest to pick up and play.
Barq saves my ass A LOT.
Who knows how it'll shake out however.
I'd really like to see which characters can utilize the shield since for me so far it's the most difficult arm to use. I haven't encountered anyone in the gaf lobby using it.

This, a million times this, you get so much more out of Medium its unreal.
Weirdly I didnt get that much more out of long, so Medium seems the best bang for the buck.
Hit all the targets, all the extra time clocks and all the prize bags. Can easily get 5-7 arms each time.
In long I still got like 5-7 arms so wasn't really worth the extra, but maybe I just fucked it up.
I feel like shield is gonna be a 2v2 thing... it's kind of ass alone since you only have one arm for doing things once it's out lol
That said, I hope they patch local mode at some point...
It seems like the only way to do 2 out of 3s locally at this point is to do splitscreen (but then, I'm not sure and it's possible that everyone was too fatigued to explore the options in enough detail).
You also can't do splitscreen locally and then go into a local lobby, so it seems like the only way to do 2v2s is to go online and fight your local friend, which is kinda dumb >_>
(or have four switches, but the matchmaking will be random like this, I'm assuming)
I guess it's really too early to tell. But good to see more people understanding the character quirks more. All of the Ninjaras I've fought in ranked know how to maximize the vanishing moves for example (e.g. not spamming grab after lol).
As for the shield, the main issue I have with it is that it leaves the user wide open to rush attack as it leaves one arm on use, and it's really slow. It's probably good on small stages for cornering opponents but on stages like skate park, the struggle is ridiculous.

Even if this was an objectively true tier list I'm always drawn to the underdog and part of the fun for me is doing my best with characters others may find weak or difficult. 🙃

Even if it's only psychological on my part because of the outnumbered concept, there are definitely great Bytes and Barq's. I've seen a few even all the way up at rank 10 and 11
Lol at Helix being B, I have a feeling they don't know how to properly use him. It even got DrDogg surprised to the point that he found it borderline OP and broken which is something I'm a bit proud of since he seems like a rather skilled player with fighting game experience and all, much respect toward him
Bump Helix to top of A, S-tier seems about right.

Well as I say, it's early to even be thinking of compiling tier lists. And even then, such things don't mean that a low tier character can't ever be played well.

Some arms just seem so much slower and harder to aim, that I can't seem to find the advantage to them. I'm really struggling with MinMin's default arms. Right now especially against Ninjara on the target hitting stage, just at level 3. Even with the ramram, the long reach is great but I just can't hit the targets like he can.

Tried grinding Arm coins on training 2P mode with a single joy com for each player. Managed to get 250 in an hour of grinding. Dunno if there's a faster method as it's 1 point per player per 28 second rounds.
When I go in training mode with two players, it goes through the entire tutorial. How are you finishing it in 28 seconds?
Man, played a bunch of matches last night with friends, and it just ain't the same with randoms. This is my main problem with fighting games. I just want to play with friends, but will get easily discouraged when they surpassing me in skill, or get bored from random fights online.

True, but the thing about tier list is that it implies certain characters are objects very better, no? I agree it's too early to make one at the moment but it's hard to imagine say a mechanica and Ribbon girl dueling (both of equal skill) and mechanica always losing since Ribbon is objectively better. Though I'm ignorant when it comes to tier lists and the fighting game vocabulary so if that's not what they do forgive me.
I feel like some characters may be easier to learn but if someone is skilled enough with their character in this game I believe they could beat any other character. I find the game balanced in that regard
I believe it. Mobility is king in a game like this so Twintelle being able to slow down your attacks is obnoxious as hell.
The rock paper scissors element is the best way to try and keep balance equal. Other games with more mechanics in it gets muddy quick.
This will for sure have certain characters excel, but for the most part there's lots of options around just the grab, punch, evade stuff.

Yeh a high tier character usually means they are easy enough to use and/or get results with. They tend to have many matchups in their favour. But given the many different ARM combinations in the game, it's really difficult to even comprehend matchups at this point.
Balance is key in fighting games. Low tier characters might just have to work a bit harder to be effective but they should be able to win against everyone (provided the player is skilled enough).

Tier lists don't mean that the best always win. It's just that their win chance is higher compared to the other ones. When you make a real detailed tier list you go into match up. Ribbon Girl vs Mechanica might be a 8:2 match up or a 6:4 one. We don't know.

I believe the person saying "ARMS!" at the beginning of a round is supposed to be Biff.
The KO voice is the same as one that announces your next opponent.

Sometimes after a win B&B sound like they're saying "Arms of us all". I've heard some others that are in this vein of making no sense. Which I hope they don't cause that's part of their charm for me.
