Army of the Dead - Teaser Trailer

Watched it today on netflix (dolby vision etc).
It was fun to watch but it is so stupid. The suspension of disbelief was broken every few minutes. And they totally forget about that person at the end haha WHAT
Oh and what's with a few white pixels lol? Was one of their cameras broken?

You’d think with their budget they’d be able to fix that in post.

I watched this movie stoned with my friend and both of us thought the movie pretty much was bad.
The only thing I really liked were the gory practical effects. Some action scenes and the opening credits were pretty good.

I just couldn't take the overly powerful feminist and multicultural cast in which all the white males were bad guys exept for the comic relief German gay boy. Even the daughter had to be a strong independent woman how didn't take a no for an aswer.

I just like my zombies movies the Romero way.

You're weird, dude.

The Asian guy was the bad guy. The white guy was his proxy and doing as told. The rapist white dude is almost always playing a Latino (Shades from Luke Cage). Dieter was awesome! He's a comedian... But I don't think he's gay... Just German.

The daughter an "independent woman"? LMBO! NO ONE liked her! And that's how she was written... To be unlikable because she was the most selfish of everyone... And that's saying something.

What overly powerful feminist are you talking about? Everyone had equal skills with shooting and stabbing zombies EXCEPT the daughter who was almost totally a wet blanket. She was a total liability and everyone BUT her dad said so!

You're getting upset about ish that isn't there! :messenger_grinning_sweat:

It was a fun movie. A lot of plot holes and things happen that dont make any sense. But I watched it for the action and gore. Bautista was pretty solid in this movie.

Which action scenes did you like? I thought they were awful. That's one of the areas I expected a Zack Snyder film to deliver on. The only somewhat passable scene for me was the one that they were running and gunning through the casino.

The opening action scene in Vegas was fun to watch, but now that you've prompted me to think about it, I'd say that scene was it. I guess the idea of zombies forming a society was interesting to me.

That scene where they had to walk through those hibernating zombies was okay I guess, could've had much much more tension to it though. I remember having way more anxiety playing TLOU1 running away from a Bloater than this scene. The action got stale about midway through, after that they were simply mowing down zombies without much spectacle.

This was one of the most cliche scenes in the movie. I mean why take the risk man and believe the guide that they can make it, just pick a different route. Plus I don't understand why
didn't the trapped chick warn the others about Martin and just proceeded to get bitten and killed in front of everyone.

This exactly. The movie is littered with moments where you'd go "why didn't this/that happen instead?".

Why didn't they airdrop directly to the hotel, on top of the hotel roof? Why didn't they go in with a shiny new helicopter? Why didn't they nuke the zombies earlier? Why didn't the head of security for Japanese dude just bail on them seeing they were already so close to the entry point from earlier in the movie?

This movie was dumb, but at least enjoyable for the practical effects, though I'm not sure why it was a short sighted simulator most of the time.

Just finished watching this and
SPOILER AHEAD

was there an explanation for why the three women decided to enter Las Vegas and I missed it because I can't for the life of me think of one good reason why they would want to?

Just watch the pitch meeting. It will save you time to watch the movie. Most of the stuff i realized already while watching the movie. xD But some stuff is flat out dumb and even i didnt realize it

they didnt even care about the women after being rescued and carrying the second part of the movie. You dont even see them anymore after the crash lol

I guess his daughter just killed everyone off and they didnt bother with it anymore. xD

The best thing is the ending... how did the black guy escape the bank safe and how did he walk out there after the Atom Bomb. No radioactive fallout nothing

If you're talking about the woman Batista's daught goes in after, it's explained early on. People go in to break the money out of slot machines, which they then use to bribe their way out of the quarantine area.

that was explained in the talk with Takeda or whatever his name is...it's a no-fly zone... But that doesn't mean they can't fly OUT... Just not into there... There was a helicopter already there so that's what they were going to fly out with.

About the security dude... He wanted to make sure they would all die. Which is why he stayed with them. They were obviously capable to get out on their own... So he made sure they'd die ... Especially with the bomb coming

That's just another dumb thing about the plot...

It should be a no-fly zone - period. You don't want people flying out of the zombie infected city and potentially spreading the infection elsewhere.

It was generally very weak how they portrayed the city being quarantined. Alphas should've been able to climb the containers seeing how agile and smart they were.

at this point of time it would literally make no sense that you expect people still to survive in there

I assume it's easier to shoot down aircraft flying into the city, than those flying out. Anything coming from inside the city can take cover behind buildings and whatnot. Flying in though, would be visible on radar from a long way off.

I don't mind dumb films in fact I probably gravitate to them so I can shut off my brain and have some fun. I don't mind films that you can sit and pick apart after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. If I had a good time watching it at the time I couldn't care less if there are a million plot holes.

This though was so dumb you can pick it apart as you are watching it and not in a 80s horror 'so bad it's good way'. The issues were so obvious that it made it feel like the whole thing was a prank on the viewer or that Zach had compromising photos of his editor.

His dawn of the dead is one of my favorites. had high hopes, but overall was pretty junky. and jfc that Geeta storyline was completely useless and unnecessary.

the sets/makeup/costuming/cinematography was nice though.

also - glowing zombie baby? come on....

It was an enjoyable waste of time that left the ending open and I had too many questions.

Also, I just found out that Tig Notaro was digitally inserted into the movie to replace Chris D'Elia.

I think there was a short convo they had at the beginning of the movie where they wanted to go in to grab money from the casinos so that they can leave the camps.

wasnt the greatest zombie film

but wasn't the worst

worth a watch if u like zombie films imo

my biggest gripe was the dead pixels on the screen

Worst movie I've seen in a while. I had to drag myself through the first half hoping it would pick up. I ended up fast forwarding the second half. And to think I was exited for this. Fuck I must be growing old, I used to be so easy to please, nowadays everything sucks.

I was hoping they’d spend more time when the shit hit the fan instead of relegating it to the opening credits.

I want a big budget zombie movie that uses that budget to the fullest extent. I want a balls to the walls film that is like the introduction of Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead. Just a nonstop fight or flight through the beginning of the zombie apocalypse that ends the world. It doesn’t stop to let you catch your breath till the credits roll and everyone is dead….

Or deadish in the sense that they’ve fallen down and now gotten back up and are eating each other.

My viewing took longer than the Justice League Snyder cut due to the blurriness. Was getting eye strain watching it. My friend liked it, and I finished it due to wanting to talk about it.

It was a different and interesting to me on the Zombie genre, but my god the daughter's storyline and inclusion is so idiotic. It became so predictable what was going to happen. Same horror plot trope as any other horror or bad movies.

My issue with the blurriness was that it was sometimes in the center of the screen and held on way too long. It's like slow mo blurriness! lol

My earlier post essentially summed up in a video. "But it has the word Zombie in it" haha.

Ryan nails a lot of my gripes with the film here. Feels like an accurate take on the production too. Given how long Snyder dreamed of this project, it feels like he just ignored too many plot holes because he wanted to shoehorn things into the story. I love the Pitch Meeting videos. Always a good laugh.

I get the feeling Snyder is just flatout on drugs while doing movies and never cares for the script lol

They've seen the Cyberpunk 2077 supercut from the prologue and were inspired by it.

Watching army of dead rn This shit won't end will it. Lot of zombies screaming, crouch screaming. Crouch screaming while arching back. Crouch screaming in superhero pose.

shits lame. I don't see zombies. I see actors in makeup acting like dorks. Extras beeing extra so they get noticed It just doesn't work for me

Didn't really like any characters other than safe cracker. Just wasn't funny or cool to me. A couple cool shots, nothing more. I don't mind having zombies types in a movie like left4dead.

Add the fact zombie apocalypse doesn't have any tension. Looks more fun than anything.

Some more brain food

“Shay Hatten [co-writer] and I know exactly what happens next,” Snyder says, “and it’s insane.”

By the end of Army of the Dead, most of the crew, including Dave Bautista’s ringleader Scott Ward, is dead. But thanks to a well-timed push into a casino safe, Scott’s old friend Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) survives the nuclear blast. But a “nuke the fridge” moment can’t save him from a zombie’s bite. While he heads south of the border aboard a fancy private jet, it’s clear Vanderohe isn’t going to make it, and the world’s brain-eater problem isn’t over. Snyder “absolutely would” want to bring that “what if?” moment to life in a sequel.

“I’d make it in a second. What we have planned is too crazy. Once we knew Vanderohe was bit, and he’s going to Mexico City, I was like, ‘You know what’s gonna happen?’ And then I just went on a tear. And by the time it ended, Shay was like, ‘OK.’”

With a trigger-happy president ready to drop nukes on his problems — and even an appearance by Sean Spicer, former Trump White House Press Secretary — Army of the Dead has some of the blunt social-commentary edge of a classic zombie movie. A sequel that takes the action to Mexico could be equally biting. But throughout his Netflix romp, Snyder, who loves an Easter egg, planted traces of world-building that could pay off in wilder ways.

“How about the robot zombie? Did you catch those?” he says with a sinister chuckle.

Snyder’s quick to point out that Zeus, the alpha zombie whose killing spree kickstarts the Sin City-wide apocalypse, escapes from a container in the opening sequence that (if you pause and squint at the right moment) is marked with a shipping address to Iran. “Like, is he some sort of covert bioweapon?” the director asks me, a person who did not make the movie.

Halfway through the movie, when the crew finally arrives at their target casino, Vanderohe and some of the crew discover a set of rotting bodies by the vault. The corpses all appear to be dressed exactly like Vanderohe’s group, right down to a specific necklace. In spite of their tight timeline, Vanderohe pauses to drop a theory: Maybe the corpses are them from an alternate timeline. The red herring-ish moment never comes up again, but it’s impossible to shake. What was the deal with that?
“I don’t know, what is the deal?” Snyder says, with even more sinister chuckling. “Is Tanaka [the bankroller of the heist operation] Devil or God, and we’re just pawns in some perverse play?”

There could be answers in an Army of the Dead 2, if Netflix greenlights the film and Snyder isn’t busy elsewhere. The director says his long-gestating drama Horse Latitudes (previously known as The Last Photograph) is still on the docket, though COVID suspended his ambitious plans to shoot around the world in places like Bolivia and Iceland. Meanwhile, Snyder says he’s finally wrapped a script he’s been chipping away at for five years, and is “trying to get Netflix to agree to do it.”

Is it sci-fi? Horror? More grounded drama? “It’s a big, giant, crazy movie,” he says. So one thing is clear: Whether he makes the mystery project his next film or he moves on to Army of the Dead 2, viewers should expect pure Snyder out of the deal.

Is it just me or have a lot of filmmakers gotten so smitten with setting up what could be amazing sequels and franchises that they forget to actually make a compelling and kick ass film? It’s like Snyder’s got ADD. Focus on what you’re making right now and make it to the best of your ability.
