Arrested Development Season 4: The Bluths are making new mistakes!

My body is ready.

The quoted bit makes me think that each episode will indeed follow one character's story but all of these stories are happening at the same time and overlapping and converging and diverging in subtle and not so subtle ways and only after watching all the episodes a few times will we be able to appreciate every bit of the whole story. Right?

That's what I got from it.

Are they still planning on releasing all the episodes at the same time? Having an AD Season4 viewing party could be a pretty intense thing.

God i hope so. AD is great because there are so many subtle things that you miss on the first viewing. It rewards fans with great little touches in the background.

Subtle joke spoiler (re: Lupe):
" Lucille’s housekeeper Lupe is always wearing the Bluths’ old holiday clothing that is two holidays behind. In “In God We Trust,” she wears a “BOO!” sweatshirt during a Christmas party. In “Marta Complex,” she wears a “Gobble Gobble” sweatshirt on Valentine’s Day. In “The Cabin Show,” there’s a flashback to 1994 in which she’s wearing a Bush/Quayle sweatshirt."

holy SHIT. This is hilarious :lol

My old lady just mentioned this one to me yesterday when we were talking about AD. She was rewatching "IN GOD WE TRUST" and saw the
BOOO! sweater
. I have to give her credit to that. I'm so wet for this show.

Yeah. And I bet there will be jokes that only become "jokes" on a re-watch. Like the punchline will be in an early Michael episode, but the setup will be in a later Tobias episode. Only after re-watching the series, with the knowledge of the later setup, will you get the joke.

I believe that is still the plan, yes. Watching 6 and a half hours straight of new Arrested Development will be awesome.

It does beg the question of exactly how the OT will work though. Will we have to spoiler tag everything for those who are going through at a slower pace but may still want to read the thread?

I think it's going to be 13 episodes, not 10. There's too much story. Some characters will have two-parters. Everybody sort of participates, sometimes in a bigger way and sometimes in a tiny little thread that goes through everybody else's stories.

13 episodes...

My girlfriend and I are making are way through the series right now, just started season 3. I am just now realizing that Ron Howard is the narrator. Awesome.

I'm LTTP on Arrested Development. Just started watching it on Netflix. I'm absolutely hyped for season 4.

Dang, that's a good one. Thought I'd totally mined this series for jokes.

Some new info from Mo Ryan.

We've known for some time that Netflix will release the new season of "Arrested Development" next year, but the time frame has been somewhat vague.
However, according to a spokesperson for Netflix, Season 4 will arrive in spring. Netflix still hasn't released an exact date for the return of the Bluth clan, but we're one step closer to knowing when we'll be able to taste the happy.
Another interesting tidbit: According to Netflix, the episode order could grow beyond the 10 installments the company originally ordered.
When asked about cast member David Cross' statements about Season 4 expanding, possibly to 13 episodes in a Rolling Stone interview, the spokesperson didn't confirm, but did say that Netflix will release "at least" 10 episodes in the spring. If creator Mitchell Hurwitz has enough material for more than 10 episodes, it sounds as though Netflix isn't going to tell him to stand down and stick to the original plan. (One thing we do know: All Season 4 episodes will be released at once.)
It's a wonderfully unusual situation for "Arrested Development" fans to be in: When the show was on Fox, fans had to constantly worry about shrinking episode orders and the show's cancellation. To speculate about a potential season expansion is a beautiful thing.
Based on Cross' comments, Hurwitz and his writing staff have come up with an intricately structured season that sounds even more ambitious than what we saw in the Fox incarnation of the show.
"I think a lot of people will miss the work that is involved, the story, the Venn diagrams that are being created, the domino effect that characters have with each other in their various episodes," Cross told Rolling Stone. "I know what he's doing, and this has never been done on a TV show like this. This makes Lost look like a Spalding Grey monologue."
Production on Season 4 is currently underway in LA, and narrator and executive producer Ron Howard has been offering updates and "Arrested Development" photos via his Twitter feed. Howard spoke to CNN recently about what Hurwitz and company have been up to.
"It's been away for a while, and part of the fun that Mitch has been mining and exploiting is, what's new to discover about these people? What's delightfully unchanged?" Howard said. "He and the writing staff and the actors have a fantastic sense of that. They're pretty brazen, pretty bold and fearless. That's what made the show into something that fans really kept alive."
Howard himself will make an appearance in Season 4, as will "Mad Men's" John Slattery.
Speaking of guest stars, the show has a stellar legacy in that department. I recently rewatched Seasons 1-3 of "Arrested Development," and I gained a renewed appreciation not just for the show's razor-sharp writing and versatile core cast, but for the roster of guest stars who made the Bluth family lunacy even more entertaining. We don't know if Tony Wonder (Ben Stiller), Barry Zuckerkorn (Henry Winkler), Ann Veal (Mae Whitman) or Carl Weathers will make return appearances in Season 4, but those memorable characters certainly helped make the first three seasons every bit as hilarious as I remembered. (Apparently Bob Loblaw, the law-blogging attorney played by Scott Baio, will be coming back.)

He really isn't.

Gene Parmesan, however? He's the best.

Zuckerkorn >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Stan Sitwell >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Parmesan.

Buster is probably the best example of an actor creating the character in this show. It isn't so much the writing behind Buster that makes him as hilarious as he is. His intonations are just so fucking hilarious.

'Alias was a show about a spy.'

Not funny in writing. But goddamn.

Buster is so damn good

"I decided to sleep in the car so my snoring wouldn't bother you. And I left that recording of my snoring so you wouldn't know I'm gone"

Buster is the best actor on the show. The other guys are good but Tony Hale has some serious training. What a joy to watch.

The only weak character in the entire series is Uncle Jack.

The Martin Short episode (Ready Aim Marry Me) is the only one I consider skipping when watching it, and would if it weren't for all the other characters being so good in it, Tobias especially. Plus the "baby you got a stew going" line kills me.

So great watching the seasons again, on season 2 at the moment. My favorite episode ever is probably "Afternoon Delight". And I love this exchange later in the season:

Michael: "Hey GOB... *motions over to GOB to approach* Mrs. Veal this is my brother GOB. Where's you're pal Franklin?"

GOB: "Throat's a little sore *shakes Mrs. Veal's hand* *grimaces* ah and wrist".

It's definitely the weakest episode but oddly enough it's the first one I saw and even though I had no idea what was going on it sold me on the whole show.

It's so hard to rank my favorite characters, considering they're all my favorites. But if I had to...

1) Lucille
2) Buster
3) Tobias
4) George Michael
5) Michael
6) Lindsay
7) George Sr.
8) Maeby
9) Gob

And I fucking love Gob and Maeby :(

You have Lindsay and George Michael above George Sr and Gob? You're crazy

Now that I think about it, Lindsay is the worst character of the ten family members (Oscar included). Still interesting, but not as funny on her own as all the others.

EDIT: Have to make my own list now.

1) Tobias
2) GOB
3) Buster
4) George Sr.
5) Michael
6) Oscar
7) Lucille
8) George Michael
9) Maeby
10) Lindsay

It's close between Tobias and GOB, but GOB's still second fiddle to Uncle T-Bag. Buster and George Sr. are fighting for their positions, and Tony Hale's acting ability gives him the winning hand.

Do we know of any of the side characters returning?

Annyong
Barry
Kitty
STEVE HOLT
Anne
Probably others I'm forgetting

I'm glad this is even happening, but I wouldn't be lying if I said I'd be pretty disappointed if some of them didn't come back.
