ArsTechnica: Hackers unlock NES Classic, upload new games via USB cable

Thank you, but I'm trying to figure out if I need anything additional to attach the 8bitdo's dongle to the NES Classic, being that the NES Classic uses the Wii-style connectors and I'm guessing the 8bitdo is designed for USB.

Ah sorry if I was not clear enough but that link & dongle is specifically for use on the Nes Classic.

Edit: Also my mistake on presuming one dongle supports two controllers. It seems I would need to purchase an additional controller & dongle to use two controllers simultaneously.

As I was trying to get retroarch working on the mini last night I looked at my Pi3 and then decided to give up.

Yes, at this point, for this reason, a pi3 is the better buy.

500ish megs isn't going to get you very far except for old KB sized games.

I mean its enough to get a hundred SNES games on there right?

Yeah I agree. I still think it's pretty nice the progress their making and the things you'll be able to do with the mini. I have one, using it for the sake of using it lol, and I have one in an unopened box that I'll prolly just keep for collectors sake. /shrugs

I see. I thought your link was for the standard (SNES-style) 8bitdo.

Thanks!

Quick question... I'm on Ubuntu and using Wine to run Hakchi2 2.11. When I try to use the Download All Covers option I get an error which says: Error getting response stream (Write: The authentication or decryption has failed.) SendFailure

Just wondering if anyone else got this error. Would love to know how to solve it.

Not to be a debbie downer but I'll be surprised if they can support more buttons than A/B/Select/Start. This cuts the legs off almost all 16-bit games. I can't think of any games that'll work for other than Sonic.

I hope someone can figure out a way to package these nicely, however. It would be amazing to be able to list Sonic next to Mario and have it just work.

I hope it works out.
Please ignore the puppy hair.

I hope they are able to get the rest of the mappers to work so that I can play games like Batman (without Retroarch).

I'm getting an NES classic and want to add a few games to mine...

Do you need anything to do this besides a PC?

Is the required USB cable mentioned part of the system or something extra you need to buy? Need any SD cards or the like?

You don't need anything.

This is all good and everything but I'm going to keep my mini for Famicom/NES games only.
Me too. Part of the coolness of the system is it's an official NES that plays NES games (and Fami that plays Fami games in that case). The hacks allowed it to do that better, but Mega Drive or whatever I'll play somewhere else.

I don't really want anything apart from NES and Famicom games on this system. If we don't get a Classic Mini: SNES at the end of the year then I may buy second NES but use it for SNES games.

Can't wait to be able to access any retro game straight from the UI.

Any word on being able to add more storage yet?

Is the advantage of this just the fact it comes form Nintendo and looks like a mini-NES?

Was going to do a retro Raspberry Pi or something but saw this thread.

you cant really compare both,

the pi can emulate everything till ps1. and is cheaper

the mini has a better UI but only 30 games or hacked about 600?
it prob will have proper gen snes gb gbc (gba) emulation in the future tho. but it lacks sd slot so you cant fit all.
and you will need a different controller to snes gba and gen
it looks cool tho !

Last time I looked the latest software got 868 American titles work. There is a rom set of slightly over 1000 (several games had several releases). A couple mappers still don't work but are being worked on so the rest of the titles should eventually work in time.

popping in for my monthly "Can I do this on a Mac with no trickery yet?" question

I can't believe it hasn't been ported to Mac OS yet
