Assassins Creed 3 PC performance thread

I hadn't seen one of these yet so I thought I would throw it out there. Here is my experience with the performance of the game so far that I put up in the AC3 thread:

All I have to say after getting to and around Boston is WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE IN THE PC VERSION COMPARED TO THE PS3 VERSION! Super fast loading, while there are some minor FPS dips it never goes below 50 FPS for me. The graphics look better, the game is sooooo much smoother now the FPS are above 20-25 FPS at all times! Thank you Ubi for a great port!

Specs:

Intel Core I7 2600K
8 GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 570
SSD

Settings:

All settings maxed except AA which is on normal, and running the game at 1980x1080 so there aren't any black bars.

One thing that I have read is that if you have an nvidia card make sure to download the latest beta drivers as they seem to make a big difference.

Checked the other thread and not many impressions from AMD users. HD 7870/i5-3450 here .Will report back in an hour once it has finished loading

GTX670 OC
I7 3770
16gb RAM
306.97 drivers

1080p/everything maxed including TXAAX4.

60fps everytime except for the very first time I arrived at Boston, where I saw some forties.

No crash, no freeze so far.

That's encouraging as my PC has the exact same specs.

i7 2600k @4.7 HT Off
GTX 680 (310.54)
16GB 1600 RAM

Have gotten to Sequence 3, settings maxed @ 1080p I get a fairly consistent 55-60FPS with dips to the mid 40's in heavily populated areas in Boston. To get a consistent 60fps and for my card to not run at 99% I had to set AA and Shadows both to the next to highest level.

I recommend limiting framerate in Afteburner/PrecisionX to 60fps to alleviate slight juddering@60fps if you have it like I did. Overall seems like an excellent port and hopefully only gets better with updates.

i5 2.7
Win7 64 12 gig
660ti w/ AC3 beta drivers

Running @ 1080p, everything maximum except shadows one notch down and AA at lowest.

I get between 50-60 pretty consistently. Boston can go as low as 30 in highly populated areas. I have no problem with the frame rate, as I played the PS3 SKU up to Sequence 6, and would consistently get frame rate in the low to sub 10s.

The game is GORGEOUS. They really put a lot into making this port... much better environmental FX, and some of the textures are incredible.

Also, I barely notice the difference between the AA settings in this game. Maybe it's because they're employing some Nvidia tech on my 660, but the lowest AA setting is almost entirely jaggy free for me.

CPU: i5-2500k @ 3.8
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 670 Windforce 3X
Driver: 310.61
RAM: 8GB

Absolutely everything maxed and on 1080p I get a constant 60, except for a dip down to 45-53 in certain parts of Boston.

Getting 30-60 on max with my 7970. Still in Boston, and the framerate is all over the place, and if I turn on max anti aliasing, I get strange graphical glitch.

Performance has been about the same as revelations (ie pretty great) running the newest nvidia beta drivers. Game looks fantastic too.

quoting myself, some edit from other thread

4890 and Core 2 Duo 3GHZ, 8 GB Ram

Running at 1920x1080, default everything but high texture.

Granted my pc is old, but it ran Revelation quite flawlessly. However, the framerate is all over the place here. When I arrive in Boston, frame rate was abysmal when several buildings are in the view.

That 4890 is killing you. The game is DirectX11, and that card is a bit too long in the tooth for it.

Revelations was DX9, so that card could handle it a lot better.

i5 3750K stock
Nvidia 670
16 GB DDR 3 ram

Got choppiness in opening cut scene, but not after that.

Shadows at high, AA at below TXAA (as I heard some people report weird performance) everything else max. Did not run actual framerate test but seems to be running super smooth. Some great looking textures in general.

Yeah, I figure, it's playable but when it dip, it's hard to ignore. Time to upgrade.

2600k @ 4.3
2GB 6950 using 12.6 drivers

avg between 45-60+

Still in Boston though, haven't gone around too much.

I have the same setup as yours. Good to know.

So everything is running fine and looking pretty. One big problem. Most of the voice audio isn't happening. have to have subtitles on to know what's being said. Newest nvidia drivers are downloaded. I don't get it.

The game seems CPU dependent after a point. Differences in NV GPUs start to become relatively minor. AMD cards also seem to suffer with current drivers, with a 560ti apparently performing better than the 7970.

With a 680 OC + 2500k @ 4.5ghz I've generally been getting 60 FPS everywhere with everything maxed + TXAA, with very mild dips in Boston at certain points. I did however have more frame drops when I got to the frontier, with all the trees and such.

Ugh, AMD drivers :/

Thanks for the info.

I just turned down environmental detail to high and that helped a lot.

It's an Nvidia focused game that's coming bundled with their GPUs so I'm not surprised it's a lot more optimised for them than for AMD's cards.

There'll probably be an AMD CAP along soon enough for it though, or it might even see inclusion in the 12.11 drivers when they release officially to boost performance.

Can't really blame AMD or their drivers if the game is being tailored to Nvidia.

You can when just about every game runs better on Nvidia drivers.

Where's AMD's developer outreach program? Nobody's stopping them from getting out there, shaking hands and kissing babies to get good things to happen for games on AMD drivers. They just aren't doing it.

Game runs terribly for me.

AMD Athlon II X4 2.9GHz
4GB RAM
Geforce GTX 650 Ti (2GB)

Regularly bottoms out at 22FPS, and changing settings doesn't really help any. Having environment quality anything above "normal" makes it pretty much consistently unplayable.

It's a total fucking drag, since I really wanted to play it, and I figured Revelations might be SOME sort of indication that it would run on my computer. After all, even at it's most taxed, it would drop into the 30's, but never any lower.

hey guys how exactly do I change the resolution? Don't see that in the graphics option (which just includes shadow, aa, texture details)

I wouldn't say 'every game' as the 12.11 drivers have swung a lot of benchmarks in AMD's favour.

They're starting again to compete with Nvidia's TWIMTBP program, games like Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Hitman: Absolution and Medal of Honor: Warfighter are all part of AMD's 'Gaming Evolved' program so should run better on their hardware.

Your CPU is bottlenecking it.

are gpus really reaching 100% usage while in-game?

With everything at max settings the game runs in the upper 90's for GPU usage and between 95-110 for Power Percentage on my 680 according to MSI Afterburner. Tonight I will try and see what HT does for the GPU usage, I didn't think to check CPU usage while testing.

Your CPU is bottlenecking it.

I just have no idea why Revelations runs so well maxed out, yet this can't get to a playable framerate on the lowest settings. It seems like there's way more characters and clutter on Revelations, too.

Your CPU is your bottle neck. This is a completely new engine, you can't judge what kind of performance based on the old AC games.

well it's a completely new engine so the comparison is irrelevant

Oh right it's simple. You can just edit the .ini in the documents folder to set the resolution. You can also disable VSYNC through it.

According to some tweaking the ini file does not seem to change anything.

According to the official forums the team is aware of the performance issues.

I only tested vsync and that setting definitely works. It would be nice if they did improve the performance, it seems a bit ridiculous that you would need a current gen overclocked CPU to get a decent frame rate.
