Assassin's Creed Unity Leaker calls out to Neogaf/provides clarification on graphics

No one said its only a Ubisoft thing but its not just screenshots with them its videos as well.
The videos until last month were of the PC version. Which Ubi did say. Is it still false advertising if the PC version looks as good as the e3 video?

The footage we saw was from Xbone version, so maybe Xbone version looks better than PS4 version and Ubi didn't lie.

Yeah, right.

The screen shots make the game look bad, just terrible image quality. I did think the video I saw looked pretty good though with an impressive amount of detail and characters on screen.

I need a break from AC and if I ever get this game it will be on PC.

Now I'm convinced that Yves is truly THE Yves.

The screens look bad but the videos do look great, he's right. But the PS4 DOES NOT blur images that badly, check out the SS screenshot thread, TLoU, Shadow of Mordor etc.

Suddenly it's the screenshot function at fault and not the game, okay sure.

The reaction was stupid, as usual, and not just on here, but if you don't like reactions then how about you stop leaking screenshots to unreleased games?

The problem is that I see people tearing and criticize the game (especially on NeoGAF) and it becomes ridiculous. Some even wonder if the images were retouched.

Well yes Ubisoft LIED on screenshots posted and published videos so far and it does not hesitate to criticize them. And the big point is the low quality textures in the distance.

well okay then

Even though I feel like people are being incredibly shitty in here over the person's clarification (even bringing up irrelevant issues like fps), I remember this very same statement from the pre-launch outrage with Watch_Dogs that didn't hold much water in the end.

So have probably 95% of all AAA games released in the last 10 years in at least one set of Screenshots. Get over it, it is not just big evil Ubisoft that does this.

Ubisoft is probably the biggest abuser and most egregious company when it comes to shit like this.

But gotta love "Everyone else too" defense.

can you imagine the shit storm if Ubi not only forced parity, but downgraded the PS4 version so MS could have the 'superior' console port?

I feel like there will be a lot of driveby posts in this thread. >.>

Isn't the infamous and console screenshot thread full of shots that were using the USB method instead of the direct upload from ps4? As well as other means.

Heh, I like how the statement was posted elsewhere with a callout to please let GAF know. It's like money laundering for PR.

The bastards even fake their unboxings!

:P

Isn't the infamous thread full of shots that were using the USB method instead of the direct upload from ps4?

I use my Elgato when I take pictures, but I can use the screenshot function and upload to FaceBook to test the quality if you want?

If the game doesnt turn out good then I will be first in line to voice my frustrations after hating several of the recent entries to this franchise, but I think the amount of negativity and nitpicking going on is undeserved. I think what they have shown looks good and they seem to be addressing some of my big issues with the gameplay so I am optimistic. Purchase is depend on reviews though.

Was about to say the same. The share function messes with pics a BIT but nothing like this.

Off topic but I'm starting to feel like the only one who cares about how this game runs. Everyone is hung up on bad textures and clipping issues, but the main thing to consider is how it runs. Will it run at 30 or will it be AC1 levels of jankiness? After the butter smooth 30fps BlackFlag I will accept nothing less. Everyone is suuuuper quiet on the framerate and that is what makes me worry. I remember AC1 and most people weren't acting as if the game ran like dogshit, when the gamebreaking bugs weren't crashing your console or locking you in a never ending loading screen.

i think at this point its not worth trying to clarify anything, the narrative has been set, all there is left to do is wait until launch day and the DF article

Where did I say that this is only done by Ubisoft?
And nope, I'll never get over being lied to - actually I actively refuse to.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Truth is every game is trying to push more polygons and higher resolution texture. I wouldn't mind seeing a AAA budget game the focuses on other technical qualities to drive something that feels impressive in a different way.

I've seen screenshots, I've seen videos, the game simply does not look impressive. Also, this sounds like PR bullshit.

Well it's already been confirmed that the usb method looks better
http://gearnuke.com/ps4-usb-video-export-details-captures/
Then why didn't this leaker do that? Or post gameplay videos to PROVE it looks better in motion.

Your leakers are slippin, Yves
I can't say for sure just how well known that method is outside of Gaf and other forums. And he also posted facebook videos but they were taken down. Only one of which can be found on youtube. And we also have another gaffer who confirmed that the game looks better than the screenshots.

The guy pretty much says that it is ok that Ubisoft once again offers a dwongraded experience. Also his notion that the images are legit, suggests that this is what the game looks like.

Yes PS4 captures do suffer in IQ, but that is the same for all games. And I dont have many PS4 games who look so blurry when taking shots using PS4's capture tool. Even Watchdogs looks sharper.

Where did I say that this is only done by Ubisoft?

I have never actually ate a Burger at MCDonalds that looked like this:

Companies lie to you to sell their product. It is everywhere you look and go. And screenshots for games is the easiest way to sell you a lie. Sorry it is just how it is. Of course it sucks, but you should know by now.

But did he upload them to Twitter or Facebook? Or did he use the USB method to get less compression? Because if he used the USB method, TLoU and Infamous SS Screenshot threads would like to disagree.

Isn't the infamous and console screenshot thread full of shots that were using the USB method instead of the direct upload from ps4? As well as other means.

Definitely, but I really really doubt a direct upload to facebook or whatever options available would blur the image that badly.

Games been a total trainwreck. They really need to skip a year and reboot.

Sad no one in the "gaming media" will call them out for this nonsense. Just goes back to how big of a joke gaming journalists are....

Wow, that is some pretty desperate damage control. I mean, get over it, people are upset. And rightfully so. Ubisoft are still pulling the same old shit, even after a previous downgrade controversy.

I just fail to see the point of this damage control...

i think at this point its not worth trying to clarify anything, the narrative has been set, all there is left to do is wait until launch day and the DF article

Yep, wait until launch. If it looks like crap then people can complain, if it looks good people that will buy it will be happy.

I wouldn't mind that either, if they didn't show bullshots to begin with, though.

Where did I say that this is only done by Ubisoft?
And nope, I'll never get over being lied to - actually I actively refuse to.

You must really have a tiny gaming library if you hate being lied to with touched up screenshots by gaming developers.

Everyone does it. Best get over it in this industry. Fast.

This is embarrassing.

I'll be honest, I've been just fine with how a lot of the 900p games on Xbox One look... Metro Redux and Sunset Overdrive being some examples. But the screens of AC Unity just don't look good AT ALL. Looks messy an incomplete.

Pass.

lol that statement kinda reads like PR, wasn't he just some random person that got the game early somehow? You sure this isn't you OP or that you are the "leaker" lol. It just reads way to much like PR to be real. Also how would he know what Ubisoft had to compromise.

Whether you agree with it or not, lol at people angry at Ubisoft for trying to damage control. What do you expect them to do, be quiet and do nothing? Be real here.

So it looks like ~Black Flag.
Good but nothing special

Downgrades + Bullshots "confirmed".
And yes, it's another AssCreed.

End of story: Damage Control

All this damage control, why don't just upload 5 minutes of free roam gameplay to gamersyde if it looks better?

Yeah, this too. At this rate he'll probably spend more time on damage control than playing the game when it hits shelves.

Edit: BTW, the leaker's statements read too much like someone who was involved in development. What if Ubisoft contacted him and made him release that statement? That's a possibility right?
