Assassin's Creed Unity |OT| Liberté, égalité, parité

I hope the CPU requirements aren't set in stone.

It would be a shame for my old 920 to finally be sent out to pasture.

Why let your CPU die because of one game? Ubisoft is always shitty in optimizing their PC ports. Don't upgrade if you are happy with your CPU in most of the games you play.

To answer your question, yes they are serious and the requirements are set in stone.

IS it just me? Looking at actual gameplay vids on youtube (I know not the best line of comparison), the game doesn't look much betetr than the last AC, at least on PC. AND the pop-in is comical at times! This appears to be the PS4 version. Haven't seen footage of the PC version yet.
Pretty sure its just you. The scale and level of detail alone far exceed Black Flag on PC and current gen consoles, and even that was a pretty big leap from something like AC2 maxed out on PC.

I've been delaying an upgrade for a while now, anyway. I had just hoped that I wouldn't have to do it until TW3 came out.

If it doesn't run I'll just get the PS4 version, so it's not a huge deal, but I had hopes of playing the game at 1080p.

EDIT:

Welp, I guess it's the PS4 version then.

The current profile has no SLI bits, but Black Flag's (0x0A0040F5) should work to some extent considering Unity uses its own branch of AnvilNext. We'll find out in 29 hours.

somebody get nvidiandy on the line, after all their promos regarding the game there should be an SLI profile ready for launch at minimum.

Your CPU won't affect your resolution though. What GPU do you have?

Yeah, the profile being as bare bones as it is strikes me as rather strange. I can only hope Nvidia is planning on releasing new betas very soon.

Just small info for PC users. ACU is first UPlay game that supports pre-load but for now that feature is enabled for EMEA countries and pre-load should be available today for those who purchased game from UPlay Store.

I meant that if the game requires a 2500K and won't even launch with my 920 then I'll have to stick with the PS4 version, which is locked to 900p.

Of course you can launch the game with your CPU, and theoretically it could run the game very well, the CPU is much faster than a PS4 CPU so it has enough raw power, 60 FPS should be achievable. But again, Ubisoft is shitty in optimizing so I wouldnt get my hopes up.

@7970 thats a fantastic card you should run the game max at 1080p, but again Ubisoft can't optimize probably so its only minimum in the requirements.

Regardless of how bummed I am about the performance and pop-in, I'm excited to explore Paris tonight. Hope there's a patch later this week that'll help but I'm definitely not counting on it.

Still undecided about this game. I only have so enough money to buy but a few games. Still have to pay my student loan this month. I'm hoping the reviews and gaffers' impressions could sway me before I go to GameStop tomorrow.
I love the series but I just can't justify paying $60 for any game after being letdown multiple times this year.

I've never heard of a game not launching if you didn't meet the minimum CPU specs so as long as the number of cores is right. The game will run on your CPU but how well ? Impossible to say at this point. Your 7970 should not sweat too much at 1080p and reasonable settings.

I think it's safe to say your CPU/GPU combo will run AC Unity better than a PS4 but not at 60fps with the same level of visual fidelity. An optional 30fps lock would be sensible on the part of Ubisoft.

I would not go that far, honestly.

My expected settings :
HBAO+ high
PCSS Medium
Tessellation high
LOD toned down a notch
Everything else maxed

50fps on my system (4770K/GTX 780).

We will see how far off the mark I'm.

Wait a couple more weeks and get any big game coming out half off...or nearly that.

Just wait for the re-release with all the DLCs included at half the price, the game is not going anywhere.

Won't be going to Black Friday this year since I have a camping trip set up during Thanksgiving week. Plus, I'm currently out of work due to an injury and I'm not sure if I'll even have enough money by then to order online. I'm already down to nearly $150 after putting aside my student loan payment and that will go down even more next week with Pokemon and Dragon Age.

You better get other big titles and wait for a month or black friday deals so you can get it cheaper and by then game might fix some of the launch issues.

I'm still stuck between getting the X1 or PS4 versions. The PS4 probably runs better but I like the X1 controller a lot more.

Anyone already has a PC retail copy? Does Uplay block that one too? Could pick one up right now, would cancel my Origin pre-order in case its like with WD where retail keys were just.. working and not locked till release.

been listening to the soundtrack and its a mixed bag, far from a series favourite. its split into 2 volumes with 2 different composers. nothing really stands out in volume 1, it sounds like a typical movie score with lots of drums. i dont like the lack of recurring themes and piano either.

volume 2 is better, composed by sarah schachner who worked on black flag's score which was awesome. but her pieces are supposedly relegated to multiplayer and co-op in this, while tilton's volume 1 is used for the campaign.

want to see how they blended it into the game, hopefully volume 2 gets a fair share

Wait, the minimum and recommended AMD CPU are the same? That can't be right? Also, on other sites, the minimum CPU is mentioned as:

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.0 GHz

As far as I know, the 940 is a lot weaker than the 2500K, so wtf is going on with those CPU requirements??

So happy i changed my fx8350 with a i7 4770k this summer, it will be pretty useful in this AC, but also in GTA5 and Far Cry 4.

You shouldn't take system requirements so seriously. I strongly doubt any modern quad core CPUs will struggle to run the game at 30fps.
60fps is a totally different story though, I really don't expect my 4770K to achieve that using the maximum LOD.

I currently use a i7 870 overclocked @ 3,3 ghz. Not really the most modern quad core, but do you think that it will still get the job done? (I am fine with 30 fps).

Yes, you are probably right. The minimum requirements are ridiculous though, these CPU and GPU min requirement just... make no sense.

Do you already have the game? 50 FPS on your PC? Man, the PC port is way worse optmized than I imagined.

I've asked this already and I'm sorry for repeating myself, for those who have played it or seen footage, how are the assassinations? Are they integrated into the main campaign? If not, are they still a large focus?

It all depends on what Ubisoft understand as "minimum". Your I7 is showing its age but 30fps is within reach as long as you accept to lower the LOD.

Where have you read that I have the game ? Those are my projected settings and they're realistic I think.
I have no idea how you can conclude the game is unoptimized based on my targets, on the contrary if I can hit those Ubisoft will have scored big in my book. Features like tessellation, HBAO+ or PCSS don't come for free you know.

Are we seriously going to call any game not breaking 60fps on high-end hardware unoptimized ?

Ah, I thought with expected settings you mean his rig and not yours. Sorry.

Well you have really low expections. Why exactly do you expect your system to not hit 60 FPS at all time at these settings? It's a absolute high end PC you probably invested hell a lot of money in that thing, there's no reason to believe it will run only at 50 FPS. Even when its a unoptimized Ubisoft like port, you have enough raw power to keep 60 FPS all the time.

And to be honest... the game is not a looker. Only good thing is the lighting in doors and draw distance. There are many low res textures, the NPCs are looking similar to each other. That doesn't screem Next Gen to me and what's funny, the roof on top of the houses are looking much better (bump mapped in Black Flag while flat in Unity), just like the water.

Isn't that the reason why you buy a High End PC in the first place? To max every game at 1080p and 60 FPS.

Gonna skip this release. Watch Dogs stung me bad, preview footage looked bad, impressions (stealth missions) sounded awful.

Gonna pick up GTA and Dragon Age this month!
