Well they have been allowing streaming since Friday. Not sure how that's hiding things. Tons of folks streaming as of late. Myself included.

They are just embargo-ing the Campaign, right?
Does this mean they have a lot of faith it's amazing and don't people to be spoiled, or that it's not so good and don't want people raging about it before release?

I'm not sure of that. A 570 is a fair bit weaker than a 7850/7870 and with more straighforward access to the hardware the PS4 will outdo both, a 570 will not cut it IMO.
A much safer bet for PS4 quality at 1080p is a R9 280 with 3GB of VRAM.
A 680 with 4 could do significantly better but not with 2GB.

The only main difference in terms of PC and console performance is CPU overhead. Assuming he's not running around with a low end laptop CPU likr a PS4, he should be fine on that end.

The 570 performs similarly to a 750ti, so it should be about PS4 like performance, a bit lower in some cases. Again, if you're saying that it doesn't cut it, then I guess Xbone owners aren't cutting it either, becuase this will probably be on par with xbone level of performance.

Forgot abotu the only 1 gig of video RAM in that card though... Ok, in that regards, yes, texture size will have to be dropped drastically, as will AA. :(

Anyone know which region is getting it first on Origin? Don't fancy waiting for the UK one on Friday... >.>

US seemed to be 8am tomorrow.

i've gone through the typical regions but earliest i could find was US @ 8am tomorrow like you said. its usually much better for EA's own games, started FIFA 15 several days in advance thanks to vietnam lol

Hum..Developpers can write GCN specific code for consoles, the shader code on PC is higher level and therefore less efficient. You're correct to state that CPU benefits much more from a low level environment but there are still benefits for the GPU.

I don't feel confident saying a 570 will match consoles, it's just too weak.

The low amount of RAM will definitely mean lowering texture size/MSAA and possibly LOD detial levels a bit.
If there is one thing I would trust the minimum specs on, it's the VRAM. The game is highly likely to run horribly if you have less than 2gb.

Well youtube walkthroughs are going up as well with story missions so I'd say no now.

I don't see how much more efficiently shader scripts can run on a console GPU vs a PC one. No one is writing them in machine code.

I mean, there are a ton of multi-platform games out there, it shoudl be easy to point to one and show me how significant GCN coding is vs a similarly specced PC GPU (ignoring CPU).

You're absolutley right about th 1 Gig bufer though. I forgot about that. That's just too small not to run into some issues.

Wait there's no competitive multiplayer? This package just got even less interesting...

I know assassins creed isn't based around MP, but I thought they would have a refresh of it to bring back the glory days of Brotherhood on Next Gen. Damn it, super disappointed now.

I have doubts there will be good scaling. GPU usage varies from mostly 50% and may jump to 80-90% occasionally in AC4 and WD

Well, maybe the harsh criticism of the sli support in AC4 and WD motivated them to do a better job this time? Supposedly, NVIDIA are interested in making SLI work here as well, considering that this is a co-marketed title and considering the frankly awful SLI support in other AAA titles in 2014.

Release Dates:
  • November 11, 2014 [NA] (November 10th at 9PM PT if you pre-ordered at Best Buy or digitally on Xbone)

is there anywhere i can confirm this? I saw this elsewhere (maybe the Rogue thread) but cannot find anywhere else to confirm this...is this talking physical in-store copies? because i've got a pre-order in and it'd be nice to go pick it up but i don't want to go all the way there for nothing (and i see a few stores are doing a 12:01 release but unfortunately not the one i ordered at, but it'd be nice if that doesn't matter)

edit: nevermind...just realized it said 9pm pacific time...which is midnight for me....

So what's the general consensus on the game so far, given many people have access to it already?

Its an Assassins Creed game.. thats for sure..
I really dont see any major difference from a gameplay standpoint.. so far at least.. That being said I havent really played much of the game.. (around 5 hours) with lots of side missions..
Graphics are gorgeous.. frame rate at some parts is horrendous.. pop-ins galore..
Story seems interesting.. Arno is a much better character than both Connor and Edward so far.. The game gave me a lot of AC2 and ACB vibes at the start..
Really digging the setting..

how much options do you have for assassinations and combat? Is it still just abuse the fuck out of berserk darts for stealth missions, and smoke bomb and stab everyone for combat?

Wut, game is out the 14th in euroland ? Thought it was 11th worldwide.
Ah well. Hopefully gamersyde has HQ videos up soon.

I think the setting is what's going to sell me on this game. I love watching films set in this time period.

Still waiting on PC benchmarks though.

Godamnit. Im so torn. I dont yet know if my CPU is powerfull enough.

i7 920 oc to 3.4 (can hit 3.6 but risky)

12 gig ram

gtx 770 4gb.

I could get it on PS4 and not worry about it but if my system will run it id prefer to play on PC. Some people are saying my i7 oced is enough to bring it in the minimum CPU requirements others are saying its too old.

What should I say then? Running i7 920 stock, 6gig RAM, Radeon HD7950 3gig Vapor-X
I'm going to buy a new PC early next year once the GTX980 8gig hits. Until then this rig has to do the job.

Is anyone able to connect to the servers on PS4?

I played the game up to sequence 6 and did a good amount of side missions as well so some quick impressions:

-The game has a lot of technical issues from various glitches in animations to the well known pop-in but the most significant is the horrible frame rate. I don't think it ever hits 30, it dips very often and in some rare cases it dips to something like 5 fps making the game unplayable for a few seconds.
-The game world is amazing. Paris is easily the best realized setting in any AC game with a whole lot of details on screen and the highest number of building interiors I've seen in a game by far. It helps a lot with making the setting more immersive.
-Story is the usual AC stuff for now, nothing that good but keeps me interested and it seems like it might pick up a bit more from here. The cutscenes are very well done, they look almost perfect (with the exception of hair) but the difference between cutscene and in-game graphics is very jarring in some cases. I'd say the game overall still looks very beautiful though.
-Missions seem quite varied for now though level design is still lacking. They got rid of the horrible tailing and eavesdropping missions so that's a huge plus. Side missions are usually quite fun and a lot more fleshed out compared to past games.
-The free-run down button is a welcome addition but it can be inconsistent at times.
-Both combat and stealth got a huge bump in difficulty. It is very easy to get noticed which is somewhat irritating and the combat is slowed down a lot and very punishing. It is quite hard to take on more than 2-3 people at a time. One big issue I have with combat is the camera which is very close to the player and often causes you to miss the enemies charging at you.

Despite the negatives though I am enjoying the game quite a lot mostly thanks to the setting and the well crafted world. The game makes some changes to the mechanics but it's very much the same AC formula.

Watched a bit of the game on YouTube, and it doesn't seem like the absolute shitshow that some people have been claiming.

I would even hazard to stick my neck out and say the graphics are quite good.

[edit] Oh and it also has the seamless cutscene to gameplay transitions that I had read only exist in the technical masterpiece that is MGSV.

Max Payne 3 and GTA V also had great seamless transitions. I also agree, the game looks great.

Looking at a lot of these walkthroughs.....note to self, do not to sprint around ALL the time. lol.

Tomorrow 6PM CET (9 AM PST), full review and lots of videos. Just finished writing it in fact (French only for full text though, no time for translation).

The visuals look about as good as I was expecting, and I'm happy with that. Looks pretty good.

Uncharted 2 was a hallmark for this. It's always welcome in any game. The less you break gameplay transition (be it with a loading screen or a blank transition screen, the better the immersion).

this was debunked on the bombcast, they said embargos have been set to release day for years (in the digital age) and you usually only have to worry when they dont even bother sending out review copies.

I don't know what you feel they've "debunked" here, exactly.
The fact that other parties enforce release-day review embargoes does not make the practice less scummy, and in this particular case the embargo is actually later than the actual release of the game. Those hours matter.

Has anyone ever done any statistical analysis of review embargo leniency versus stabilized metacritic score?
Because I certainly have a hypothesis on how that correlation would manifest.

It's the game AC1 wanted to be. And maybe the first real stealth AC. Missions aren't as linear anymore, combat us hard, there us a freakin crouch button.

Just started rogue, and in comparison the steps forward unity makes are great (allthough they actually take steps backwards and got rid of clutter)

Also, you can totally skip the credits. That's right. SKIP them. So yeah, that should at least add 5% to the metacritic average :D

MGSV is impressive for the actual camera work. Very few (or no) cuts during cutscenes and transitions. It's not so much a technical achievement as it is an artistic one - it's a really hard way to shoot film while still having it look good.

I think this is going to become standard this gen, which is awesome.

Side note: Is it a requirement to be obnoxious to play games on YouTube?

Yeah, there's a few spots like that, and it's definitely a little jarring. But what's the alternative, you can't go through the window until he's moved? You try, knock into him, and go flying?

Actually the latter could be pretty cool.

[edit] I'm getting a history boner from
seeing the Estates General.
I hope we get to see the Tennis Court Oath.

I love Ubisoft launch trailers. They're so over the top ridiculous, yet still manage to get you hyped for the game.

Couldn't you just knock him over like when you run into anyone else?

Let the assassinations begins :p

Will start with Rogue first then move to Unity.

I'm not someone who's gonna flip out and cancel my preorder over something so (ultimately) insignificant but it just seems so lazy* to leave something like that in.

*I realize that it's probably something like deadlines screwing devs over rather than just laziness, but the appearance of laziness still abounds.

I'm jealous that you have Rogue! I'm so curious about that game but I'm too poor to buy it now. There are some rich mutthafukkas around here.

You could have said the same when it came to watch dogs release. Both wd and black flag were co-marketed by Nvidia btw.

As I've said elsewhere, my growing concern with the AC series is that despite being around for the best part of a decade, and having had seven mainline entries, so much of it is still seems so unpolished. They seem to leave the central mechanics and technology unchanged. It would be nice now to see an AC game that doesn't have the same kinds of collision and animation bugs that weren't in the original AC.

I'm not gonna call it lazy; lord knows that they generate a tremendous amount of content for each new game. But I also kind of feel like at some point I'd like to see them really really concentrate on polishing the central mechanics to a perfect sheen. And given that this game is something of a 'back to basics' AC, that cuts out a lot of the extraneous stuff from III and IV, I feel like this was a perfect chance to do that.
