Assassin's Creed Unity - PC Performance thread

That's almost the same performance as with my 290x. I want to finish ACU but the poor performance were a discouragement to continue playing the game. I will play Unity when I get home. I updated to the Omega driver. I'm surprised AMD didn't say anything about better performance for Unity.

They have actually mentioned AC Unity performance improvements in their driver release notes notes. Looks like Ubisoft were correct when they blamed amd hardware for performance issues.

I got this game for free from the nvidia promotion, expecting it to run like crap...and surprisingly, I'm getting almost locked 60fps, no hitching or stuttering. Worst drop I have was 50fps in a room with tons of people in it. Settings are all at the highest except for shadows (I'm using High) and FXAA @1080P. Game is downloading the rest of itself in the background (only half is downloaded ATM), yet I'm still getting amazing performance.

Specs:
i5-4690k (stock speed)
MSI GTX 970 OC (stock speed)
8gb cheapest crucial ram.
1TB 7200rpm hdd

im downloading the game using uplay as of now also,, somehow will hit the playable mark in 1 hours (yes, shitty d/l speed)..

i am also using i7 4770k, gtx 690 and 16GB, anyone here using 690 ? how is the performance ? im afraid of the 2GB limitation with the 690, watch dog thought me a harsh lesson with this card..

Some have reported decent performance even with 2gb cards but don't expect miracles.
I would not recommend this game if you only have 2gb of VRAM though.

I don't know if you will be able to set textures to high (Nvidia recommend 3gb), the low setting looks like trash.

oh my God just installed this yesterday, played it a bit today and was hoping a general improvement in performance with all the updates..

wrong.. stutters literally every 10 seconds or so,, but im able to reach around 50 fps with ultra, txaa, hbao+.. i got that goin for me which is nice..

please tell me a fix from ubisoft is coming..

oh yea almost forgot

i7 4770k
GTX 690
16GB RAM
1TB 7200 RPM

My ssd is very limited to OS rite now.. 40GB of unity is a big no for my ssd..

Not surprising at all given that you have 2 GPUs, multi GPU support is terrible in this game.
2gb only makes matters worse in your case.

Ubisoft games tend to play worse with multiGPU in general. And then Nvidia ignores that fact.

Well if the engine itself isn't SLI/Crossfire friendly then Nvidia can't do much at all. I believe they're doing as much as they can.

I see AMD Omega drivers have really improved things drastically, maybe Ubisoft were right when they claimed AMD was the problem.

I would agree, but I also think it is nvidias job ,whilst selling big expensive multi GPU stuff, to MAKE SURE games play well with SLI. They should work with devs to ensure that.

Part of having a driver staff is making sure the driver works with games.

The Omega drivers appear to have boosted performance significantly, at least on High settings. I haven't done any real testing other than fucking about through the city, but areas that would dip to the low-20s prior to Omega are now all reporting 30, or damned near it (RivaTuner reports 29.7 FPS occasionally). No stutter either, but I never experienced that from the get-go. Changing any settings above high seem to take me below 30, so that's the sweet spot for my machine (i2500, 8GB, 7950 3GB)

One thing I noticed is that Unity's 30 doesn't feel quite as smooth as Destiny's 30. It's not nearly as bad as 30 FPS mode in TLOU Remastered, but there's definitely a qeird quality to it. For example, if I'm scaling a building, as I approach the top the game appears to run smoother than it does at street level, without a meaningful change in reported FPS. Minor quibble though, I'm quite pleased with the improvements and am looking forward to playing again.

Nice ! I might grab the game later, I have the same GPU.

The upcoming patch is supposed to improve performance?

I recently bought a GTX 970, and the game runs fine, I put everything on Ultra and FXAA (don't really like TXAA) and runs between 45 - 60 fps, which is very playable.

Do you guys recommend waiting a bit? (maybe I can get closer to stable 60 fps?) or start the game already since the GPU can handle this just fine?

I would use FXAA or inject SMAA and turn down other settings since you only have 2GB of vram.

Been playing this on my phone using limelight and geforce experience streaming. Bad performance doesn't seem to bother me as much on tiny screen.

Well Jose, I'm assuming you're still playing the prologue and the first part which is in Versailles. Just wait until you get to Paris. That's where the real peformance stress is going to be.

Played a little this morning and got to Paris and I'm still getting the same performance, no stuttering. It's usually at 57-60fps, except when a massive crowd pops up. In that case I'm getting 50-55fps, which is still great.

I guess my PC is just a beast. People have been getting crappy performance in ffXIII yet I'm getting solid performance in that game too, even downsampling from 4k.

What are your specs and do you get 60 FPS in FFXIII all the time?

Either the last patch really fixed performance in Unity for NVIDIA cards or you have your settings at high and not ultra. I was getting 40-60 FPS with my 970...

i5-4690k and MSI GTX 970 OC edition. At 1080P I get 60fps constant when exploring and in battle. Fraps shows 56-57 in battle sometimes, but it's not noticeable at all.
At 4k I'm at 60 90% of the time, with drops to 30 only when there are a lot of enemies in battle or everyone is casting spells, but it's perfectly playable, and not very annoying.

Unity is at version 1.3, and I have the latest nvidia drivers. My settings are definitely on Ultra except for High shadows and FXAA as I stated. When I switched to FXAA it made a huge difference in performance.

FC4 latest patch introduced hairworks on SOME animals only, removed godrays, and added new memory leaks.

So it's like every patch makes one step forward and two backwards.

Given Ubisoft recent track record I'd keep expectation for this new patch low.

FC4 is also largely plagued and falsely advertised ( Hairworks is listed everywhere and it does not exist in-game )

It does.

It didn't remove god rays. Hairworks is applied to a large number of assets, considering the production time that's the best we could hope for.

I may be the only one with a very positive outlook on FC4's PC version, never had any major issues with Ubisoft games on PC but I didn't play them all.

Patch 4 has been delayed for further QA

Rigorous quality control is of paramount importance to us, and your feedback over these past weeks has indicated that it is important to you as well.

As stated last week, we’d expected to release the patch today (and we know that many are anticipating its release), but we are choosing to hold off until we can give you the improvements we’ve promised. We are committed to delivering major performance improvements, which requires that we refurbish the Paris map and that will take a few more days to hit the high level of quality our players deserve.

Thank you very much for your understanding and continued patience.

Yeah, I hope the visuals aren't downgraded too much, but I suppose most people didn't get the relatively good experience a few of us got, so greater good 'n all that.

I got the game to run pretty much flawlessly. Occasional drops but 60 most of the time.

Settings:
  • Resolution 1920x800
  • Vsync - On
  • Environments - Ultra
  • Textures - Ultra
  • Shadows - Low
  • Ambient Occlusion - HBAO+
  • Anti-aliasing - FXAA
  • Bloom - On
You do have to deal with the black bars, but I thought they complimented the game well. Cutscenes work just fine outside of the pre-rendered ones, which get squished.

How did you get it to run at 1920x800? I tried altering the files that hold resolution settings but it just ignored me and went to 1080.
