Assassin's Creed Unity - PC Performance thread

I'm the kind of guy who spends way too much time tinkering with the settings and testing performance, and I usually end up not feeling like playing yhe the game afterwards so most of the time I just do whatever experience says to do to save time. It's worked pretty well until now. Thanks for the tip though, i hadnt tried fxaa yet.

Geforce Experience is wrong 99.1% of the time, you're wasting your hardware by going by what GE tells you.

I'm aware, I usually start with their reccomendation as a base and then tweak acoordingly, I had just never seen it THAT wrong.

It's definitely playable now, few stutters and drops in crowds but I can live with that for now. Thanks again.

Hi guys just decided to start playing this as I wanted to wait until the patches had done their job to iron out the bugs. Anyway I'm running a 780 paired with an i7 and I'm getting between 35-45fps with everything set to max and adaptive vsync enabled. It's butter smooth for me but for some reason when I am indoors the screen tearing is pretty bad

I really want to play this game at max settings, but unless optimization are made and/or drivers profiles are improved I will keep holding onto hope. It's a shame the AMD cards are really being shit on with this game for some reason.

I'm currently running a 5960x with 3 290x in crossfire. 1440p max settings @60 FPS is what I get from every game Ive played so far.

I am currently playing Black Flag and that thing is smooth as butter. Disappointing

I'm not sure what's wrong, but the game won't let me go full screen, the game looks fine in windowed, but when I change to fullscreen it has black bars on the side and the resolution looks atrocious, i can't even read what's on screen.

My specs: 4690k, and MSI gtx 970
Edit: looks like this but with black bars on the side

I have been away from my computer since before the latest update was released. Has it improved upon anything? My rig was chugging terribly on the last patch, and I couldn't bring myself to play it with the frame rate issues.

I've been dying to buy the game but I'll wait until I replace my 2600k with whatever new CPU's come out from Intel in 2015. Hopefully the issues will be ironed out by then.

Who wants to play coop with me tonight? I just want to do some few heist quests.

Also, I think I need my eyes checked. I do not see any difference between FXAA and TXAA or MSAA.

Skip Broadwell, wait for Skylake. Your CPU is perfectly fine.

It's perfectly fine until you realize the bottleneck the 2600k causes to the GTX 970. I also play at 1440p and the current 6 core CPU's by Intel are intriguing but the prices of DDR4 are turning me off by a lot.

There is no bottleneck at resolutions above 1080p. Gpu is 100% playing unity on a 780 ti with an old i7 920. Doubt there would be any difference with a 970.

you are getting bottlenecked at 1440p by a 2600k while I'm not by an OC-ed 3570k? wat

What are your specs and at what settings are you playing Unity? What's your frame rate?

Windows 8.1 x64
i5-2500 @ 3.30GHx 3.60 GHz
10GB RAM (8+2)
EVGA GTX 970 SC

1080p, Ultra High settings gives me 30-35fps with no stuttering, lower settings give me 40-60fps.

I did some experimenting and found out it was the PhysX particles that were causing the stutters in Black Flag.
My PC sucks at physics benchmarks (presumably because of the weird RAM config), so I guess I'll just leave PhysX off until I can get another 8GB RAM stick.

Can you get 60 FPS in high settings with FXAA?

No, with those settings it's more like 45fps average, with 55-60 if I'm off doing nothing and there aren't many (or any) people around.
Well, my setup is similar to yours (Gigabyte G1 Gaming and i5 4440 instead), and I'm able to keep a pretty much steady 60 FPS with all settings on max except for shadows on high. Patch 1.4.

I'm pretty sure Physx is processed by your GPU and if not that the CPU. Physx looks terrible in Black Flag anyway.

Black Flag run fine on my system, but this is absolutely unplayable. *sadface*

This is what I've got ATM - what should I throw my money at?

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87-HD3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz (1x8GB)
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB

If that were my system, I'd go for a new graphics card.

Can I play this?

Sapphire 7950 3B
I5 2500 cod to 4.5
8 GB ram

Yes. I have -

i5 2500 (non k, not overclocked)
12GB ram
Radeon 7970 GHz Edition (overclocked to 1100/1500)

It's perfectly playable on mine, but I haven't tried patch 4 yet.

If i were to buy the game today on steam will it download the patch 4 with the game? Is it a way to revert to the previous patch? Also will this game do 30frames maxed with a gtx 7704gb?

I believe it will download the game with the latest patch. I downloaded it yesterday from steam and it has the 4th patch. Not sure if you can revert to previous patches. Someone with more pc knowledge may be able to do so.

As for performance, for some people the game is performing well for them, others not so much. For reference, I'm running a 5960x with 3 r9 290x in crossfire and can only muster a 40-50 fps everything maxed with fxaa @1080p. The game won't let me run it in 1440p. I've heard nvidia cards are performing much better than AMD cards in this game. So that might be better for you.

I didn't mean with this specific game, in some cases the CPU does bottleneck the GPU. So what's the consesus guys, encore sale day on Steam, should I grab it?

I have no idea why you're even believing Geforce Experience. A 780 can run the game at maximum settings with FXAA easily. I was getting 40-60fps, average I don't remember.

I'm guessing these graphs are pre-Omega drivers and patch 4? I've seen the game hit 60fps in some instances on xfire 7970's on ultra with FXAA.

3x 290x and a $1000 processor gets 40-50 fps at 1080p? Good lord Ubisoft

Crossfire is not fully functionnal so most likely only one GPU is used.
I'm getting about that framerate (50-60) on a single 970 + 4770K, max settings + FXAA.

The hell? You have one of the best GPUs on the market and a (bit older but still) powerful CPU, you should do 1080p60 without any drops, good lord Ubisoft, really the wizards for making a unoptimized game.

Yes, lol. This happens if a old last gen engine pulls off current gen visuals and ki.

The only thing that really is outstanding graphically is the baked Global Illumination which is still just baked. Crysis 3 has real time GI and is much better optimized. And yes its a difference because AC is open world but still if you are in rooms with similar dimensions, Crysis 3 performs better

Yeah. According to msi afterburner, 2 of my gpu's are only being used about 50% where the third is pretty much doing nothing. Every once in a while 1 gpu will be used 100% where the other 2 are doing nothing.

All of the cpu cores are being used but only to about 20%.

I played for about 3 hours and couldn't stand playing at 40fps at 1080p.

This is a really awful experience on a 260x. I could deal with a low average framerate if it wasn't for constant stuttering every 3 seconds (which also causes the cloth physics on everyone to jump). I am aware it is below the minimum requirements, but it should outperform the xbox one at least. The stuttering never goes away on any setting.

i have a 770 and i have everything on ultra except AA of course, i locked the framerate to 30 on nvidia inspector, disable the uplay overlay and i get a rock solid 30 frames in game, on cutscenes is another story, frame drops to the teens, oh well, the new parkour elements are fun, beautiful looking game, but i have to say after coming from shadow of mordor combat feels so out of place on this game

Mordors combat was so good. SoM could have been called Rogue Simulator and I would have loved it. It's really set the bar in my book. Hopefully, Ubisoft took notes. Though, it's ubisoft, so who the fuck knows.

Unity it a great game though.

Mother of god, Patch 4 destroyed the game. Now it won't even start probably, it crashes always to the desktop and if it don't, the loading screen is infinite even though its on a SSD. What a mess. With version 1.03 atleast I could play, lol.

I've only had the game a couple days so all of my experience is with patch 4.
It's frozen on the title screen three times. Also, three times when I held B/O to hang and drop straight down I've fallen a few feet and then started "swimming" in place in mid-air until someone noticed me and killed me or I had to reset my computer (!) Seriously, even control-alt-delete/Task Manager couldn't help. It happened another two times when people shot me off of walls.
Also, the hair in this game is godawful except during cutscenes.

Running a 780 and i7 960 here /w 8GB ram and getting really bad cutscene framerates. Gameplay is fine and matches the aforementioned benches, but during cutscenes the framerate always dips to exactly 15 FPS for some reason.

Probably because cutscenes use higher quality models for characters.

Is this game supposed to have heavy controls, a la Killzone 2, or am I getting high input lag?
I'm using ds4 windows, my controls aren't multiplying or anything. I don't have vsync on, getting 65+ fps and tried it with two different graphics cards. All other games are fine.

It could be due to the low VRAM (2gb) won't cut it, especially for a 260x. Even at the lowest settings, the textures still eat up quite some VRAM, hence the stuttering.

I5 750 stock
GTX 970
16GB Ram

Maxed Out with PCSS/HBAO+ and FXAA [1080p], vSync enabled
Free roam in Paris:
35 FPS [A lot of people, u know] - 45 FPS while walking
50 FPS - 60 FPS on the rooftop
60 FPS Indoors
The 750 is holding me back or these number are fine with Unity? [95% GPU load in large crowded areas]
To be clear i'm fine with this performance, after all it looks stunning. But i want to compare the 750 with the newest Ivi Bridge

I had the 750 until a few weeks ago and it held me back massively. Literally doubled my framerate by upgrading to a 4690K.

Anyone know if they ever plan to patch in the tessellation stuff for Nvidia cards? I've still got the game installed and would like to check that out at some point.

Try to overclock the 750, should get at least 3.5GHz easily.

Sigh...I was using my dualshock 4 controller since I got this game. Unity recognizes it out of the box, the icons changed, and even the touchpad worked. Then out of nowhere the analog stick calibration messed up and now its unplayable. When the sticks are in the center, it sees that as them being up and to the side. When I move them, they work fine. Restarting the PC doesn't fix it. The controller works perfect with every other game, so it is not the cause.

Sent a detailed message to ubisoft support and they just told me the dualshock 4 isn't supported, and didn't even attempt to help. F ubisoft. I like this game (it's my first assassin's creed), but from now on I will never buy any of their games. Glad I got it for free from nvidia. Can't believe people pay 60 bucks for this trash.
