Assetto Corsa -- New racing sim from the developer of netKar Pro

right managed to play for 20 mins or so after 30 mins of setup (hate pc gaming at 5pm on a Friday)

I'll start with the UI, best UI in any game i've ever played, there's a little bar on the right you can mouse over on, then toggle whichever widgets you want on screen, don't want any hud?uncheck them all, whichever ones you check can then be moved around the screen(s) and placed anywhere you want, so simple so good

performance is good, 6040 x 1080 2xmsaa, 16xaf was averaging around 70fps on 670sli. there's post aa settings which i haven't tried, not many graphics options yet though , motion blur is incompatible with triple monitor for whatever reason

3D works out of the box really, the game starts and pans around the lotus which had quite a lot of pop out, think its set up for convergence by default. in car it was a mess cos of the convergence/depth settings, putting convergence to minimum fixed it and it seems perfect in the brief time I've played it, 3D surround was 35fps at same settings (need to try post aa and not msaa for this)

too early to make an informed opinion on the actual physics and driving but early impressions are that it's good, real good :D

two early negatives would be that triple screen setup seems a pain and doesn't have any render each screen separately option ala iracing, not sure if the settings can be used to overcome this

the other would be that i already hate the circuit lol

Sounds promising then. Just got done looking at some other forums, and it seems like some people are doubling their framerate when dropping High Quality Qubemap from high to low. From the screenshots posted, you really couldn't tell the difference (aside from the FPS indicator). If you haven't done that, you might be able to get that framerate back to 60fps in 3D just with that.

I didnt find it that hard to setup, got a measuring tape and measured the inputs and it was bang on after that.

i consider that a pain compared to checking a box to render each screen separately and then setting the fov like in iracing, is there any fisheye when its setup right? can't say i've noticed much if any

Not that I can tell. It looks great when setup, yeah it takes 5min to measure things but once its done its done.

yeah played some more and I can't notice any, so that's good

don't think it'll be playable in 3D surround really, dropped the faces? reflection option down to 1 and cubemap to low and managed to get 45fps but that's just a single car on a small track of course. 2D surround or single screen 3D is where it's gonna be with this game I think (or oculus :P ), well until the hardware catches up anyway

really starting to like the physics, noticed lots of people mentioning the weight transfer on other forums, it really does hit you after a short while, why don't other game with road cars have this? feels like my own car round corners

So SLI is making a difference for you? Seemed like some people were saying it wasn't working. It'll be interesting to see if driver optimizations can help any.

yep confirmed in replay mode, zero fisheye just like iracing :D

well i don't honestly know, I've had this before. in precision both cards show 98% usage, however because it's running in surround then sli must be enabled but there is no profile for the game so it can't be using them both? I've played games in the past that showed the same gpu usage just because of surround but they definitely weren't utilising the full power. you have me cautiously optimistic now!

Physics A
UI A+
Sound B+
Graphics A-
FFB A

This game runs well on my old Dell SXPS1647 laptop and this is just the tech preview. Performance wise AC is off to a better start than pCARS.

I agree, weight transfer. I cannot believe how much the Elise understeers, but when it does it makes sense because I obviously overloaded the front tires. Everything feels so natural. It is not like some raw experience, it just feel right. A little like Gran Turismo and nKP but better than both.

There's def. some problems with the audio (curbs sounds crackle like a mofo with a G35 headset) if you don't disable surround in windows.

1.26 odd, really dislike the track though, there's no flow, will wait for the final game before putting some real laps in. rest is great though

I quite like the track actually, fits the car quite well.

Time is now 1.24.8

The track reminds me of the Tsukuba Circuit.

Also, if anyone else is using pedals with a load cell brake be sure to make the breaking "curve" linear in the advanced control options, makes a huge difference.

Loaded up FVA last night in anticipation of the tech demo which I downloaded this morning and Assetto Corsa is everything I'd hope it would be and more. FFB is really really nice on the G27 with the settings provided by Kunos and the graphics look like FVA with a lot more polish. I'm getting 70fps with Aniso and AA to max, no FXAA (to blurry), shadow on medium, HDR enabled (not checked), no Motion blur and medium cubemaps with faces set at 2.

Stefano from Kunos post on the AC forum that "motion blur is VERY intensive, expecially with AA enabled. The 8 settings is plain crazy, something that will be maybe possible to enable in 1-2 years time... MB at 1-2 give a very good visual result without the crazy FPS hit... when using MB try also to disable AA and enable FXAA instead.. it might give you better results" - lots of good info on the support forum if you've got FPS issues.

New Ferrari F40 screens.
Also go vote for Assetto Corsa on steam greenlight!

SOLD!!!!!!!! my favorite car ever! now i just need a Diablo SV (or SE30) and a Mclaren F1 LM and i will waste many good hours in this game.

Also i have to say something: That 3d model looks very similar to the one in Forza series.

Played a little this morning. Wonderful. One of, if not the best, combo of physics and graphics yet. I can't wait to try it with something that requires more throttle control than the Elise.

Got this today too. Really liking the physics. As opposed to the classic sim "driving on ice" feeling, it has this netKar pro grip feeling that just makes corrections so natural instead of something you have to learn to catch by experience on a particular sim. 1:25.1 so far.

can you paste the settings for the t500 rs wheel please, there's no register option?

Are you sure you're not missing it? I registered yesterday and didn't even need to get a e-mail verification.

There are a bunch of different suggestions in that thread. Kunos doesn't even seem to have a T500, so I'm not sure there aren't better suggestions in the thread.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/t500rs-owners-discuss-here.309/page-4

That's the T500 thread. Seems like guys have nailed it down to an FPS issue? The higher you're running, the more issues. For now, best bet seems to be run with v-sync enabled.

FANATEC Clubsport Wheel BMW Rim (tested on rev.B CSW base)

In Fanatec Panel
Wheel angle : of course 900
Dampening strenght: 0

In AC -> Controls -> Advanced
Force Feedback Gain: 85% - 90%

On the BMW rim
SEN: off
FF: 100
SHO: 100 (if you want to use the vibration inside the rim)
ABS: off
LIN: off
DEA: off
DRI: 001
For: 120 (play with this value according to your tastes and feeling)
Spr: 0
Dpr: 20 (try 30 too)

Q: Why do you use DRI setting?
A: DRIFT parameter isn't a "magical" setting that makes you faster. Default settings (with Fanatec drivers 144 and firmware 037) in Assetto Corsa simply make too much dampening, causing a sort of "delay" in oversteer/understeer corrections while driving. It's like you feel them a bit late. With DRI to 001, the wheel dampening is heavily reduced and it becomes more "direct". That's why we suggest the settings above. You will feel every little front tyres movement, every little slide, the grip limit, without make the wheel too lighter and unrealistic (remember the Elise SC, even is lightweight car, hasn't steering assistance). If you still feel the wheel too light around the center, try to raise the Dpr value on the rim.

Inside Sim Racing Assetto Corsa preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXn3vfznKsU

Spent a few hours trying to find out why the clutch wasn't working. 5 seconds in the forum and the answer (pedals had to be plugged in via USB, not through the wheel) was there.

Hopefully I'll get to play tonight, the impressions are great.

I've only managed a 125.03. I'm sure I can at least get it into the 24s. Good lap times so far seem to be in the 1:22s with at least one person from the iRacing boards getting in the 121.9XXs.

Loving everything about it so far.

What really struck me was the interface. Kudos to Kunos for taking advantage of the PC platform to do something special. Fully customizable interface and apps need to happen more often.

Performance is really good so far too.
1080p
8x AA
16X AF
Vsync off
High shadow res
0 motion blur
HDR disabled (looks better with 12:00 time of day)
Med Cubemap res
2 Faces per frame

I get 90 fps average with a 560 Ti. 85 avg with HDR on.

Nope, tech preview only has the Lotus Elise.

FYI, the FOV can be changed by editing the file .../My Documents/Assetto Corsa/cfg/camera_onboard.ini

As expected AC preview runs like shit on my laptop :(

Q: Any plans to release Assetto Corsa on PS4 now that Sony have confirmed indie devs can self publish on the system?

A: We haven't finished AC on PC yet and PS4 isn't out either… nothing to see here, move along :)

That smile gives me hope... lol

I'm gonna be honest, I don't really like reading those forums. There is some really valid stuff that's been reported, which makes 100 percent sense, and some of the official responses are kind of crap... bordering on excuse making. I don't know why they can't just stress that it's a tech demo and WIP. The fact they have a habit of citing user error when the user had laid out a compelling situation doesn't make me feel too good here.

I was reading the Race Department time trial thread it it appears people have been modding the game files so the Lotus accelerates and brakes akin to an F1 car although there are very fast drivers posting legit times of 1.21! The videos of modded Elises are rather funny.

1:21 is... real quick. I got it down to 1:23.90 this morning, it wasn't a perfect lap at all but shaving another 2 full seconds from that...
Regarding the modded cars I hope that AC will block them when playing online right?

Do you have a link to the modded Elise video?

Good

Do you know if it's possible to map keys to the keyboard while still using the steering as the main controller? I looked a bit last week-end and couldn't find a way to do it.

I need that to use my joy2key profile. I map my paddles and sequential stick shift on the fanatec to the U and D keys on the keyboard and map those to downshift and upshift. It lets me use both methods to shift without changing config everytime.

I got a slight performance increase with the new build, interior of the Elise looks better as the dashboard looks a lot clearer and the new tarmac is noticable. Some are complaining on the AC forums and Race Department about the FFB being worse than before - I haven't noticed as AC remains sublime to me in this area. I'm guessing people have ignored the suggested wheel settings of the dev team and the new FFB in this build feels worse as the damping has been reduced from 40% to 20% according to Aristotelis on the AC help forum.

This is one of the reason I just avoided downloading it (that and getting sick like a dog). Figure I'll just wait till the kinks are worked out a bit. But I don't understand why there have been so many issues with the T500. Using pretty standard settings (and definitely not touching the strength meter from 60), P&G 3.0 has absolutely fantastic FFB. It's surprising that the lead on both games could have such wildly different results.

Are you using the suggested settings from Kunos?

I'm using a G27 and AC feels fantastic with the lastest build so I don't understand the complaints of fellow Logitech users. FFB is a very subjective area in sim racing; I always use the settings supplied by the people who made the game whenever I can.
