Atari picks up One Piece...

Wow, that's interesting since Land Land just came out last month in Japan. I've got a Famitsu PS2 with a brief preview of it and it looks alright. I'd figure they'd just pump out a translation of an older game quickly for a cheaper buck.

what type of Game Is Land Land for the PS2? Also, Has Bandia released any of the Gamecube games based on the animie License in america, i think they would sell Great. Iam surprised Konami only releasing the "Shaman King" game for PS2, you would think theywould release one for Gamecube too, especially in most game companies minds the GameCube is for Kids.

Yep Shaman King would clean up on GC (just as TMNT and Yu-Gi-Oh have)... dumb move on Konami's part making it PS2 only.

Its not Land Land, its Round the Land. >< I do understand the confusion, though, because "Round" and "Land" used the same characters in this case. Its actually a bit of a pun. (say it fast: "RandoRando"). Anyway, its a pretty simple game. Its light fun, especially if you're a fan of the series. It basically goes as such: The Luffy pirates happen upon an island where they get split up and must go "Around the Land" to find eachother, collect treasure, and fight villains. Its a simple premise basically used to set up each area around one of the major story arcs in the series. There's the Buggy Arc, Kuro Arc, Baratie Arc, Arlong Arc, Drum Island Arc, Arabasta Arc, and Skypiea Arc. There's also one more area based around the new villain introduced in the game,

Its plays out like a fairly simple pseudo-2-d platformer. The formula seems to be 2 levels -> midboss -> 1 more level -> Boss. The levels I've played aren't particularly challenging, but they can be hard in some respects (enemies can take off a fair chunk of health). Maybe it gets harder later on. Before a level starts you can pick which character you want to play and two supports depending on who you have gotten so far. These characters will be your "extra lives" and you can also switch between them at certain points in the level. The rest of the game is basically straightforward, with the player going through the levels, popping balloons for money, killing enemies, and attempting to make it to the end of the level with one of the various treasure boxes you can pick up along the way. At the end of the level, money is tallied up and the characters either get a lifeup or powerup depending on said performance.

So, like most anime-licensed games, its not awesome. Hell, its done in Renderware. :| But the theme can carry it through for those who like it enough. Still, its some light fun.

Hey it does say "Round the Land" under the katakana....where the hell does the "the" come from? (and I did say it fast ><)
Anyway, wait, I have no "anyway."

You know, the OP character set would really make for a fun as hell Paper Mario style RPG (well, at least the battles).

Actually, one of the GBA OP RPGs is actually quite a bit of fun. The characters (you can have 1-3 in the party) and enemies all move on a small grid (think rockman.exe), but in turn based fashion (like FFtactics) There are usually some obstacles on the grid too (like explosive barrels or treasure). Each character has their normal attacks (set to reflect the character, so Luffy has long straightforward range) and specials (the equivalent of magic. Chopper's syringe is comically terrifying as it's bigger than most sprites)

The funniest part about it is that Sanji cannot attack women in the game. Every time you try, his eyes sort of bug out like he's oggling and his attack round is wasted.

Outside of battle, the game is vaguely similar to Goof Troop. You have to run into characters to trigger battles, and each member of the Straw Hat Gang has a special power for overcoming obstacles (Luffy stretches his arms to cross gaps, Usopp fires projectiles, Chopper can be huge or tiny, etc).

The only problem with the game (besides being of questionable import friendliness) is the level design. If you like rockman.exe this will be a piece of cake, but god damn those levels are way too large, repetitive, and nonsensically structured.

I almost picked up one of those, but in the end I couldn't decide on a OP game to plop down the buckage for other than the Swan Colluseum, which cost me like 500 yen. Stupid silly little fighter for the Wonder Swan.
But that does sound fun and I do enjoy the Battle Network games.

I keep trying to enjoy the Battle Network/.exe series - I just made it through 18 hours of MMBN4 recently - but there is always some point where the level design gets so drawn out that I have to quit out of sheer apathy.

For the OP RPG, (Nanatsu Shima no Daihihou...whatever that means) it was probably easier to get aggravated since I still have absolutely no japanese comprehension. -_-;

Great Treasure of the Seven Islands, roughly.
Well if that was one of your few issues, it looks like I should track this down.
Thanks! :D

FWIW, the best one piece game is still One Piece Treasure Battle (GC), but it definitely is more of a party game.

Why would they pick up the new game? Some of the story stuff in the game won't be seen on American TV (assuming it runs continuously and never gets cancelled) for 3 or 4 YEARS.

Well, whatever. I wouldn't mind if they brought over the One Piece baseball game, mainly cause I don't want to spend $40-50 on a GBA game.
