About Stella Deus: The Gate of Eternity

A deadly mist called the “Miasma” spreads across the land, killing all in its path. Having forsaken hope, the inhabitants simply await their deaths. Lord Dignus, self-appointed Overlord of Fortuna, sends forth the Imperial Legion to put a quick end to their apathy and eliminate this “weakness” from his kingdom. Spero, a member of the Legion, has been given the task of hunting spirits to further the alchemic studies of his friend Viser. The young soldier hopes this will bring an end to the Miasma. Meanwhile, a shaman warrior named Linea believes that she can save the world by opening the fabled Gate of Eternity.

Excellent. Hopefully it makes a nice counter to the character building borefests the NIS Factory keeps pumping out.

I still prefer the original SD boxart...

There's just something I like about the color scheme and design used. The US boxart designs are still pretty nice, though.

I haven't even started SMT: Nocturne yet. Between that, Stella Deus, and the two DDS games, I doubt I'll be playing anything but Atlus games next year, unless I quit work.

Nocturne is soooo good. It's pretty long though. I'm 67 hours in, and I'm not even at the "leveling before the last boss" stage yet.

If I ever see one of you playing a game with this sitting on your controller, I will turn and run away, screaming in an attempt to avoid the video-game cooties.

edited to clarify what kind of cooties I will be trying to avoid when I flee.

Atlus is on a roll, releasing tons of niche titles over here. Stellas Deus looks pretty damn awesome. Me want

from that hideous sticker i can divine that the controls in DDS are identical to those in Nocturne.
when i played the japanese version briefly i thought that the R stick had actually become honest to goodness camera movement, but since that says "change point of view" i dunno...

The part of my brain that wants a PSP and the part that wants to geek out to a 100+ hour RPG or three are at war right now.

Art Box + official soundtrack for DDS? Rock.

The Stella Deus box american box art is terrible, though. I mean, we expect that of the big publishers, but why does Atlus even bother?

I'd even take the original logo on a blank white background over the four american choices.

DDS did pretty well. Better than Nocturne, i remember. When it was slotted for a November release, the usual sites (gamespot, IGN, etc) were referring to it as the better of the two games.

edit: I stand corrected, although i'd be curious as to what "SMT3: Maniax" got, as that's what we have as SMT:Nocturne.

How good are SD & DDS supposed to be? Anyone know that Famitsu scores, for example?
what do famitsu scores have to do with quality? all RPGs get 31-32 unless they're big.

search still isn't working for me, but when it is, bebpo posted very positive reviews of both games which are well worth checking out.

DDS is destined to be quality IMO, given the team.

The mechanics of DDS are a bit different.

From what i gather, you have a team of "humans" that have alternate demon forms (think DMC). By consuming the flesh of your fallen opponents, your demon forms gain abilities.

they exist. really detailed ones. if the search is working for you go find them. =P

Touche. You win this round!

Edit: The search isn't working for me :(

I'm getting interested in Atlus's stuff...it's been quite a while since I've played a quality RPG. Gotta give Atlus mad props for bringing all these obscure RPGs to the states. Hopefully the US branch runs a profitable business.

For fuck's sake, those boxes look fine. I can bet that if the US and Japanese covers were reverse people would STILL pick the foreign boxes over the domestic for whatever little reason

You're kidding, right? With the exception of the first choice, those all look exceptional. Hell, I'd say the 3rd box is better than the JP one. :\
