About the Game

Set in an alternate-history 1962, five years after the catastrophic Windscale nuclear disaster, Atomfall immerses players in a quarantined region of Northern England. As an amnesiac protagonist, you'll navigate a world filled with mutated creatures, deranged cultists, and rogue military factions, all while uncovering the dark secrets behind the calamity. The game combines open-world exploration with survival mechanics, allowing for a non-linear approach to its investigative narrative.

Just started. Have this on PC and Ass Creed to play on PlayStation.

Bit underwhelmed by Ass at the minute guess I need to play more.

Decent game but unfortunately got mogged because of AC Shadows, Khazan and MH Wilds (and Schedule I). Also got released right after a big Spring Steam Sale and reviews didn't help either.

I like it, it's fun but then again I'm playing it because it's on Gamepass.

Just now launched it and it's 'preparing game' doing something that it should have already done.
What the f xbox. Why does every single game I play on PC gamepass have some sucky starting regamarole.

Im interested in this one too. Looks like a fallout type game which would be great.

Is it as punishing as they say?
It’s not like Fallout in anything but background setting. There’s no stats, RPG elements or VATS-type system.

Think of it more like STALKER meets Control

It’s slow and methodical, encouraging exploration and investigation over constant action. There’s really not a lot like it so I’ve beeen enjoying it quite a bit

From what i'm hearing, the game is a cakewalk even on hardest mode, enemy ai seems to be atrocious so combat is trivialized.

Disagree. I own it and am about 3 hours in.

It’s not mediocre, it’s just not probably what you think it is. It’s not “we have Fallout at home”, it’s a narrative survival game that’s more akin to STALKER meets Control. There are no RPG elements.
What is the control part of the mix??

Are we talking remedy's control?

For a gaming forum some of you guys are pretty out of the loop not knowing about this one!

Played around 2 hours so far and I love it. It's different enough to be worth playing through but has a few flaws. The stealth is serviceable and the A.I can be a bit wobbly, but the exploration and quest design is excellent. No GPS style markers and having to follow leads is a real refreshing change of pace and actually requires the player to be engaged meaning you have to pay attention to the characters, environment and notes that you find along the way.

Successfully figuring out where to go based on the clues and finding what you need in this game is really rewarding and I hope more games try this moving forward. I could go on more about what I'm enjoying about the game, but if this all sounds like something you think you might enjoy, give it a go.

Yes, from a narrative & exploration perspective. A big part of Control (at least for me) was reading/listening to all the notes, audio log, journal entries, and other ‘lore’ in-game to learn about The Oldest House and what went down there.

Atomfall has a ton of the same with even more engagement as those notes and things give you clues on where to go / what to do.

There's something about this game that doesn't sit well with me. Probably me falling for the hype and paying for early access. I won't say it's a bad game, just not for me.

The complete lack of direction and freedom of choice caught my attention. Came into the game thinking I'll just talk to npcs and figure things out that way. Problem with that approach is very few NPC can be talked to. When i "mess up" a conversation and that person no longer wishes to talk i feel completely fucked.

The main story is setup with a bunch of fetch quests in different areas but I have no clue how to access the rest of the map.

Some will enjoy being lost and exploring. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. In the future if a game is coming to Gamepass I'll close my wallet and wait patiently. Got burned with Avowed now this. I'll just spoil the game here. Even lower exploration difficulties don't hold your hand.

Can you save before you talk to someone in case you fuck up?

Based on what I've read the game is designed around you doing multiple runs since there are quite a few ways that you can see things through to the "conclusion" (6 different endings).

So save scumming isn't recommended for the first playthrough, you're best off just rolling with what happens and then seeing how it effects things.

Very cool. Yeah I'll definitely grab this down the line, probably after Im finished with Shadows, Indy and Days Gone Remastered. Rebellion won me over recently with SE5.

I'm about 3 hours in before getting killed for the first time.
I barged into a mine with several outlaws 1 with a gun who got me.
Inventory in this game is going to be difficult. I've found a few things of food but it does not give much health. It takes several pieces of cloth to make one bandage to heal.
I traded stuff for a metal detector only to find one right where I needed it. :(
I've already used the metal detector several times to dig up supplies. I like how the metal detector works.

I've turned up the graphics to Ultra with my RTX4070 but there are several instances where the FPS can dip down into the 50's. Usually trees and bees.

I like the game so far. I'm going to keep playing a while longer.

I knew about the metal detector so didn't fall for the trade!

Yeh I'm definitely going to grab this at some point soon, seems to tick most of the boxes for what I look for in games so should be right up my street.

Going to play Khazan first though.

I don't seem to have any main story missions I can continue with if that makes sense?

There is nothing to track or make active.
I've got several missions including the main interchange one. You can track them, and it puts a mark on the map.
The AI is kind of stupid, I climbed a tower and 4 outlaws followed me up and I just wacked them with a cricket bat till one after another. :p

Yeah yeah. I can see all that (including interchange) but when I drill down into the mission there is nothing to track if that makes sense? So there’s no mark to put on the map. Maybe it’s bugged out for me?

Interchange for example, says main story right? But when I look into anything remotely tagged with main story, there is nothing in there that is showing outstanding. All complete. I don’t have any mission when I can put a mark on the map.

Absolutely top notch loving it. Been craving that Dishonored, Bioshock Prey type immersive sim and this game hits all cylinders... Runs and looks pretty immaculate on the pro. The beauty of exploring is just top tier in their atmosphere and landscapes. Love it.

What time is it?
Played for three minutes before the sound cutting out completely and had to restart the game to fix it. Playing on Series X. Not a great first impression.

Hoping to try this sucker out.. if not in a few minutes (maybe not enough tiime right now to properly enjoy) then definitely this evening for at least a couple hours. I won't have any real block of time to try it until Monday.
