Sorry if I’m asking a redundant question

I’m debating between this and Khazan…it seems like a run of this can vary wildly from 15 hours to 35-40.

How are you all finding it? How’s the amount of content, does it feel hand crafted and interesting to uncover?

Also, I know the map is segmented into chunks but how’s the variety in those maps/environs?

Thanks y’all!

just wrapped up the game. damn, really bummed out it was so short.

Have to say, it's really quite impressive as this studios first foray into this kind of game. If they continue in this direction we will most certainly see great things in the future, I really hope its a financial success.

The latter half of the game is where it really picks up. There are some obvious issues with enemy AI being the biggest problem, but even that is forgivable given how solid the overall sum of parts is. It's also a bit of an immersion breaker that there is no day night cycle, but beyond that one of the most immersive worlds I've played in a long while.

That’s tough. Do you want a souls like or a survival lite RPG non hand hold Morrowind style?

Both are going to be full of content

I’ll say. Don’t expect to get 60 hours of out Atomfall. It’s a 10 hour story I’ve heard and maybe 30 to DO EVERY THING

But that’s frankly something I can Appreciate

Eh I’m skipping a lot of stuff and I’m at 10 hours with what feels like a lot of story left

It’s very difficult for me to tell how much I have left, but I know there’s significant zones I’ve barely scratched.

Haven’t played enough yet myself to know. Only couple hours. Plan to play more tonight.

I AM interested in that new souls like. But I’ve got MANY souls games I’ve bought and never played yet. So I’m good on that category for a while frankly.

Played some more today and got hard locked in the inventory screen after looting a corpse. This is one of the more buggy games I've played in a while. It also appears the buried boxes you find with the metal detector have randomized crafting recipes. The swarms of rats, bats, piranha, bees/wasps are fucking annoying.

Just unlocked the upgrade weapons skill. It seems I now have to find 2 of the same type of gun to upgrade into one. 7 points to get this skill and I can't use it right away. :(
It’s one of the better skills. Expensive but worth it.

Edit: I wish I got it earlier. I ended up trading a bunch of rusty weapons. You don’t get a lot for them either.

I think you get cache boxes which are random, but you can also dig up something else…
unique collectible lunch boxes

the contents of them are higher tier, not sure if they''re random

I've also literally found leads in caches. which is crazy to me, because you could easily miss spots when it comes to your metal detector

I've got two of the rare boxes unearthed and I believe they are the ones that contain crafting recipes and if that's the case, those recipes are definitely random.

The game absolutely shower you with resources and ammo, don't be sad to leave stuff behind you people, just put an X on the map and return later if you need something.

Enemy ai may be one of worse i have seen in my life, super easy to abuse in fights.

But the game has its charm.

I had a crash only 45 mins in and a hilarious bug where an enemy just walked straight through a brick wall.

Yeah yeah. I can see all that (including interchange) but when I drill down into the mission there is nothing to track if that makes sense? So there’s no mark to put on the map. Maybe it’s bugged out for me?

Interchange for example, says main story right? But when I look into anything remotely tagged with main story, there is nothing in there that is showing outstanding. All complete. I don’t have any mission when I can put a mark on the map.
Lower exploration difficulty. It'll add locations to the map and make progress a bit easier.

Haven't gotten too far but these aren't just fetch quest. Once I arrived at a destination there's something im missing to progress, like a key 🔑, and after killing several guys and looking around I haven't found it.

Hearing people call this game short confuses me. Like how? Apparently im not the smartest gamer 😔

Thanks mate - I'm well past that initial issue now though 👍

it seems the vast majority of the game content is optional

take atomic batteries for example. there are sooo many ways to get them in this game. everything from killing robots, bartering, quest rewards, etc. if someone were to get all the batteries they needed from combat, they could avoid all the leads that reward them

I'm 12 hours in and still have a ton of leads and I've barely explored the woods

I'm taking my time though. I really enjoy exploring the world and I am currently working on unlocking several shortcuts. once you start to remember the shortcuts traversal becomes much easier

I’ve got loads of outstanding tasks but I’ve raced forward on my journey of discovery.

I don’t know how many endings there are but if everything I’ve found out and unlocked resets back to zero and a clean slate, don’t know if I can do that 8 or however many times it is if that happens at the end.

Just going off the achievement names…

I've got 3 of the Interchange Powered up. Spores are now the rarest item. I need them to craft tonic to get into certain areas of the interchange to power a 4th.
I'm over 15 hours into the game and it keeps going. Lots of stuff to do. I think this is the first game I've seen that had a half dozen 'Main' quests listed at the same time.
I am impressed with the stories so far.
Not impressed with how much backtracking my gameplay has had to deal with. I assume there is a best way to order the quest list, and I managed to pick the longest backtrackingest way so far. Game does not have fast travel.

edit-It's kind of funny how the pnematic can store more stuff than you will possibly ever need in this game. Did the developers expect this to be a multiplayer with crafting and building out the wazoo?

Ehh I’m at 60 out of 100 spots. I tend have a problem hoarding stuff though

when I max out of resources, I start making items then storing them for later so I can pick up more resources

For those who have beaten or are deep in, how is the environment variety?

I understand this is a smaller game and not seamlessly open ala Far Cry or what have you.

I feel like what I’ve seen are wooded areas, caves, a town and that’s it.

Again, I’m not expecting Zelda here with deserts and ice mountains and sheet, but curious if there’s more variety than what reviews and such have shown.

Regarding needing the spores, there is a alternative method / mission to get into there 😉

Absolutely loving the game. Love the exploration, the setting, the characters, the way the lead system works. Love almost everything, and will be there day one for a sequel of some kind. My only gripes are with the AI. I mean, they're dumb as shit, but seem to have some sort of telescopic eyesight.

I think I'd like the next game to expand on some of the systems, like better stealth and being able to craft more things, like clothing and such.

I'm around 11 hours in and have only just got to

I have no idea who I trust (or rather who I distrust the least), so I still don't know who I want to escape with. Although fuck

I'm trying to do every mission for every character that gives me a mission or a lead until I assume its going to put me into that point of no return.

Until then, loads of fun being had.

About 5 hours played and so far this is my game of the year. In fact, I'd say it's probably going to take quite a lot to top this. Yeah the A.I is wonky and the combat is serviceable. The exploration is amazing though and I'm really loving the fact that the game doesn't hold my hand and guide me to the next objective. Discovering things or finding notes feels very organic and that is rare to find in games these days.

Skethermoor has killer geese.
The exploration in this game is surprising. I entered a cellar just slightly off the beaten path and that cellar kept going and going with tunnels that lead me back to the main town. While in the cellar I picked up a few more leads.

I have an issue with the St. Katherine quest line.

I think I did this entire quest line out of order and it's bugged. I think I got several quests mixed together here that all interacted in one way or the other. Completing one quest seems to have locked me out of others. I was unable to get Morris to talk, I had all the info but could not trigger the game to move forward. So I ended up reporting Morris to the head Protocol just to get rid of the quest line but this means the Vicar won't talk to me anymore and the quest line is still open. The vicar has an atomic battery (That I probly don't need) but it's part of the quest line. Is my only option to murder the vicar and get his key or Is there another way to get his key so that I can get that battery?

Hollowpoint5557

A Fucking Idiot
I played 2 hours and dropped it. I didn't like the combat, the A.I. wasn't that great, and the map designs just felt too amateur and the exploration was not rewarding enough after playing something like Avowed. I could see a sequel that takes a step forward being an instant classic though as this one was right on the edge of being memorable.

have you found the key to unlock the church cellar? I haven't, but it seems like Vicar might be hiding something down there. I have no clue where that key is, but if you an get in there, you might be able to black mail him for it. I tried killing him to see if even has the key to the cellar on him. he does not

I got the battery from him pretty easily. As soon as I saw the murder I told him I would report him if he didn't tell me the location. do robots respawn like other enemies? if so, that means the game has unlimited batteries

so I wanted to share something that happened which is a great example while I love this game so much

without spoiling much, I got a device that allowed me to access areas I couldn't previously access, so I did some backtracking to much earlier in the game. I unlocked a door I had to pass on earlier. at the end of the area, it had one of those big BARD chests and I looted it. I was about to leave the dark room but I decided to do one final scan with my flashlight before leaving.

I saw something barely shimmer on a shelf right next to the BARD chest. I ended up jumping to getting a better view and seeing a rifle discarded on some random shelf near the chest but almost impossible to see.

this rifle is the best gun I've found so far. it can as the mid tier quality hoping to find another so I can upgrade it.

as for resource scarcity, lots of stuff is in abundance but I would save stuff like blue spores and gun oil. once you start upgrading weapons you burn through gun oil fast I need to find an NPC that can sell it and just camp him. I think I've been upgrading too much not realizing how rare gun oil is

MAJOR SPOILER IF NOT AWARE OF LOCALE YET

You'll get it when you get to the medical wing in the interchange that you will naturally get to eventually

It reminds me in a way of a Resi Evil type of game. Areas locked off until you find the keys etc and whilst there are no chess piece puzzles, everywhere seems interwoven like an early Resi.

Upgrading weapons seems...superfluos?

Bow already make you god if there is a patch of grass, and in open combat, an headshot with a rusty weapon is the same as with an upgraded one.

I wanted to buy the skill to fuse 2 rusty weapons to get a better one but after some thoughts, that shit is not worth 7 skill points...

I have all the interchange areas powered up but haven't really explored any other than robotics. Dr. Garrow asked me to explore robotics to retrieve her notes. I got to the bottom level of it, then saw it unlocks a shortcut back to the interchange. I went back to the main hub to drop off items, then got distracted and left the interchange to do a bunch of other random crap

totally forgot about it, I should go back and finish robotics. guessing she will have me go to each of the different data storage areas one by one

Man, I got hooked. Finished the game. Decided to focus on 1 story lead and ignore the others. The ended was BULLSHIT! I was so interested to hit the payoff and it was limp. I don't play many of this genre so for me it was great.

groups of feral can be hard as hell without the upgrade. the bow is way too slow to deal with feral who rush at you

then there's robots, you an cause them to overheat way faster with upgraded weapons

there's also guys in heavy armor which are tough as nails.

while headshots 1 shot kill the basic enemies you see in earlier spots, there are tons off stuff that require more firepower

Already fought groups of feral and they go down pretty easily but i haven't fought robots or armoured dudes, do they wear helmets?

The druids have helmets but headshots work all the same.

there are different sorts of robots that have different sweet spots, but if you focus fire them you can cause them to overheat pretty fast

the armored dudes have a protective mask and tons of heavy armor. they look like way different than normal soldiers. I ran into a few after triggering an alarm somewhere in Skethermoor.

they drop already upgraded guns and these electric stun batons

edit: I haven't found a single pristine firearm in the world. 7 points is a lot but I like having highest tier weapons. lots of the other upgrades simply aren't that great either. nothing is super strong or gives you a huge advantage, besides maybe the Fortitude perk

someone can respond with a spoiler tag, but is there any point for me to get more than 4 atomic batteries?

or are they only used to
power the interchange. if there is another use you don't have to say for what

I've been farming them for some reason lol

I should buy the bow skill book. some trader offers it I just pass on it every time I see it. I haven't found it in the open world yet though
Don't buy any book, you find them in the world, the bow one is in a place full of archers, not gonna say more.

But On the other hand, you are so full of stuff that selling something is really a non-problem.

I've managed to upgrade one weapon to Pristine. It was probably the most difficult thing I've had to do so far in the game. If you do try do a pistol as you have way more inventory slots available to keep stuff.
Thing is I can't tell a difference beyond how the gun handles. it's quicker and smoother sounding when you reload. But damage, I can't tell a difference.

ahh I think I get the hint

buying them in the world isn't the worst idea if you really want them. I bought the stealth one, then found it.

you can trade the manual/book, for a different one. what I ended up doing is trading books for new ones.

then eventually you can just trade the excess book for a battery, ammo, or anything you want

idk if that makes sense. basically I don't think you need to be super worried about buying a book and then finding one in the world because they maintain their value when you try to sell them again. I enjoy that about this game.

have you got the perk that reduces weapon sway? that might be my next. it can make sniping a bit less annnoying

my only pristine weapon is a 1911. it is really nice to use, it does handle better. it also feels like it does more dmg. I can cause robots to overheat noticeably faster

it feels as powerful as the rusty revolver did at low levels. but at equal level, the rusty revolver does more damage

edit: per google it causes "higher damage, lowered sway, faster reloads"

Have not perked the weapon sway yet, I spent a couple of points on finicky fingers? Fast fingers? something fingers just so I could pick spores off glowing plants. Tonics for everyone!
