So there's not a bad song on the album outside of Chocolate Chip trip. That was the instrumental and was weird as hell. That didn't really do anything for me. the 5/5 and 10/10, 9/10 reviews are spot on I would say.

All the songs are long as hell which I like. The last song 7empest was like 15 minutes long and sounded like it could have been off of Undertow.

Yeah, on that Twitter unpacking video above it shows the track length of each song. I actually paused it and took a deep breath. Shit's gonna be epiiiiiic.

Also, I'm holding out till I get my hands on the CD version. I personally don't have a problem with CD piracy, but I want to respect Tool here and enjoy the moment.

Thinking about doing a run up all week?

Monday Undertow
Tuesday Aenima
Wednesday Lateralus
Thursday 10,000 Days
Friday...

Edit: or are you actually listening already 😂

I'm waiting also.
I figure I've already waited this long, what's another few days.

I've been listening through the back catalogue pretty much exclusively for
the past four weeks or so dedicating at least a week for each album.

One things for sure, first time I listen to this I'm gonna take a heroic dose of shrooms and some edible weed, turn the lights out, curl into a little ball and trip my way through.

I see why they call you Nutjob Jim

A Reddit thread basically confirms there'll be no regular CD edition. Looks like it's the deluxe or the MP3. Shame one can't get CD quality sound without buying the deluxe - I can't pay €150 for a CD.

So 320kbps MP3 it is then.

I'm jealous of those listening already!

I'm surprised to hear that. What country are you in that the limited edition costs 150 euros. It was only $37 here.

At this point I wonder if I should even open the limited edition. Maybe just keep it sealed as a collectors item.

Slovakia. OK, so I double checked, and most online retailers here have it for circa 110 Euros. (And I'm a teacher and we get the worst salaries in Europe lol.)

I'm kinda happy with MP3 I guess. GAF has been making the album sound awesome.

And yeah, totally keep your CD sealed for collectors!

Keep in mind that the CD does not include the three interlude tracks due to time constraints. So even for those who have heard the leak, in order to hear the complete album you'll have to listen to it digitally (the CD comes with a digital download code).

So after listening to the album a few more times I'm not sure I agree with the reviews saying Dany Carey is the star of this album. The drumming is top notch, but I think Adam Jones is the star of this one with Maynard coming in a close 2nd. This album definitely has more intricate guitar solos. Something we haven't seen Jones do before. While he is an amazing guitarist he tends to keep it pretty simple. There is definitely a lot more complex guitar stuff here. he really brings it on 7empest.

Adam is definitely on another level here, 100% agreed. He's blended so many styles of playing that he almost sounds like two different people at the same time. To me though, Chancellor is still the overlooked star of the group. Even just the SOUND of his bass is unlike anything else I've ever heard. The dude is a beast.

After maybe 10 playthroughs, I'd rank the tracks like this (best to "worst"):

Fear Inoculum
7empest
Pneuma
Culling Voices
Invincible
Chocolate Chip Trip
Descending

What do you think?

I'd have a similar ranking although I liked Descending more than you. Chocolate Chip Trip does nothing for me. To me I think that 7empest, Pneuma and Fear Inoculum are the top 3 songs on the album.

This is why I need to listen to the album multiple times. I think Descending might be my 2nd favorite song on the album. The build up and the ending on that song are incredible. I also think I like Invincible better than Fear Inoculum. 7empest is still my favorite song on that album. That song is on another level. New rankings:

7empest
Descending
Pneuma
Invincible
Fear Inoculum
Culling Voices
Chocolate Chip Trip

God fucking damn it this album is awesome. Totally worth the 13 year wait.

Man, the full experience is something. That first segue is just super trippy. Sounds great overall but there is definitely some subtle clipping and that's a bummer. Not talking about the tape hiss, but in Pneuma specifically, sounds like it's on Danny's kit somewhere. Anyhoo, the album just slaps too good. It took me like a decade to be overall good with 10k Days. This one has much more after a couple of full listens. Also, it's super dope stoned.

I'm on Culling Voices right now. I think so far it's Invincible > Pneuma > Descending > Fear Inoculum

Just finished the album. 7empest > Invinicble > Culling Voices > Pneuma > Descending > Fear Inoculum, after 1st listen.

I love them all though. 7empest feels like an entire album.

saw this on reddit. They are doing 2 nights in Toronto which is 2 hours from me. Pittsburg is also another option, but I'd much prefer Toronto as I've been there multiple times and somewhat know the city. I have a feeling getting tickets will be next to impossible.

Hey guys, I really want to buy this. What's the best way so that I get whatever cool liner notes and art/packaging as physical CDs but still get a digital copy to roll into itunes or Amazon music? Can I go buy a physical copy from a store to get that stuff, and still get the rights on digital as well?

(sorry for the boomer question. I haven't bought new music in like a decade.)
