August Wrasslin' |OT| Make a.. make a good...uh...a good wrestling thread

I'd take the emotion and reputation Bryan has over Cole being able to properly call Breezango doing a michinoku driver.

Vince was a very effective announces because he knew where the booking was going and he could get over the storylines.

Gorilla had a level of respect with the fans for being a prior performer and for putting Bobby in his place or rooting for the good guy.

JR would talk about the emotion of the baby face and how the odds they faced weren't just physical.

Tony Schiavone before Russo and things going to shit would talk about the histrionics and the tradition that was being upheld or defiled.

Cole brings up hashtags, talks in corprate limgo, relies on puns like Miracle on Burbon street, and puts over his bosses instead of the presentation.
All of which can be put down likely towards the fact Vince is screaming in his ear about what he wants him to say. DB would be just as awful because the commentators aren't allowed to make the unscripted calls that everyone wants them to do. If Daniel Bryan was commentating, he'd be forced to do the same. Talking Smack is likely unscripted, but the commentary seems to be tightly controlled for the most part.

I'm not saying Cole is great, but he simply exists in a different period of wrestling right now then before when it was easier and the commentators could usually be free to speak. Twenty years ago WWE didn't have to focus on trends or the sponsors as much as they do now.

Good for Bryan to actually provide logic.

Who really loves wrestling more?

Styles who'd probably wrestle anywhere he could or Cena who would only wrestle for WWE?

But I guess Cena acted serious so no one really paid attention to what he actually said.

I wouldn't think somebody who can't cut in the Major Leagues who goes back playing in some small independent league in front of 1000 fans or over in Japan "loves" baseball more than a legend who decides to retire at the top of his game and spend time with his family or focus on other opportunities.

To me that makes it sound like the legend treated it as a job he just happened to be good at rather than as a passion.

If this Ziggler/Ambrose "oh my god is he shooting?!" promo is a sign of things to come from Smackdown, I'll pass.

The pipebomb was five years ago, which in this age is an eternity, and feels quaint at this point.

It was quaint five years ago

It wasn't in 2000 but Russo isn't CM Punk so it was 'lol so bad'

Why can't someone be passionate, but also rational about what's best for their future? Also, why is it passion instead of stupidity to continue a career when you've failed at the highest level and will never get back there at your current age?

I mean, I don't think Peyton Manning isn't "passionate" about football because he wasn't trying out for Arena Football this year despite the fact that even in his advanced age, he could still dominate there.

I find pipebombs as passe as you do, friend, but I loved the opening segment because I didn't read it as a pipebomb. I saw it as Ziggler shedding all the showoff bullshit and remembering that he's "Nasty" Nick Nemeth, who has legit shoot credentials. It struck me as a marvelous character recalibration.

It doesn't have to be a small independent league, it could also be NJP or TNA that have millions of fans, but Cena seems to be be talking down on any promotion but the 'big leagues', WWE.

That's 'well-known Indy guy in the WWE 101'. You got the Indy guys saying they are real wrestlers because they fought in places other than the WWE and you've got the WWE guys insulting them on how long it took for them to make it here.

WWE professional wrestler Rhyno wins 15th District Michigan State House Republican primary race

They say politics can be a rough sport. If that's the case, the winner of Tuesday's Republican Primary in the 15th District State House race may be uniquely qualified for the battle he'll have in November. Terrance "Rhyno" Gerin is a WWE wrestler.

The WWE Superstar took down two Republican opponents in the primary, winning by only 54 votes as of 11:30 p.m. Though he had the highest vote total, he had yet to be officially named the Republican Primary winner.

As the winner of the Republican Primary, he would now face Abdullah Hammoud, the winner of the 15th District Democratic Primary, in November's General Election.

Rhyno, as he's known to wrestling fans, is running to represent part of Dearborn in the Michigan State House. He chose to run for office under his real name, Terrance Guido Gerin.

After initially announcing he would enter the race, Gerin spoke to WWE.com and explained his decision. "I’ve followed politics for decades," he said. "It’s something I’ve always had a passion for. I love my country, I love my state of Michigan and I love the city I live in. It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a while."

The winner of November's General Election race in the 15th District will replace George Darany, a Democrat who was prevented from running again due to a three-term limit.

God we need more of this.

People and commentators treating promos and statements like they matter or they came from the performers Heart.

Honestly DBry should straight up replace Cole. From a storytelling perspective and having a level of trust with the fans makes him so great at making things seem real.

We are coming up on almost 20 years of Cole and the man has 0 calls or moments that people remember him by.

Yeah he was the guy that called Eddie vs Brock but nobody remembers what he said.

It's so sad how true this is.

He's just not good at bringing in the hype of special moments. He doesn't have the voice, nor the creativity. Look at Austin coming back to stop the WCW Invasion as an example.

JR: "IT'S AUSTIN! OH HE'S TALKING! HE'S WALKING! AUSTIN IS STRIKING EVERYTHING THAT BY GOD MOVES! AUSTIN HAS PARTED THE RED SEA!"

Cole: "Austin is kicking butt! He is kicking butt and taking names!"

Hell, I remember Tazz a lot more in Eddie/Brock than I do Cole.

Cole is consistent, I'll give him that. But he's consistently mediocre.

I've been pulling for "Jagged" Jake Hager to get another run at the top for years, and I think now is probably the best time for it. Have him lay out Fin on Raw after Summerslam and tell him he's going to stretch that Universal Championship away from him.

The Eva Marie character is great.

If Ziggler has finally seen the light and decided to make his character be a fighter who wants to beat people in fights to win a fighting championship, instead of his continual breaking the fourth wall by viewing wrestling like it's synchronized rhythmic gymnastics scored by judges, I'd get interested in him again.

It's not hard to make the tweak towards saying "I'll stomp your ass out and look great doing it".

I will need to see more to buy in.

I always wondered if he tried to imitate Jr but not exactly 100%. He's a good guy and has a nice personality but they need to let him go full Byte This Cole.

Wasn't Eric Young supposed to sign with NXT or did it not go past the one night appearence?

I actually liked what I saw of him

He's signed already, as far as what they're doing with him, I have no idea. Maybe after BK you'll see the full circle of him, roode, etc.

Next time Eva does a stunt like that Becky should just beat the shit out of her and accept the DQ and become the most over woman on the roster. But then give the new title to Eva to cement her heel heat.

I think Eva needs more lines from the narrator on her entrance. It's already kinda old. Maybe that's the point, but they should just keep adding stuff to it. 'Mesmerizing. Ruby Queen. Scarlet Princess.' and so on.

And honestly? I just like Raw's attitude a bit more right now. It's a bit more eye-catching than Smackdown. The writing is a lot better. The Braun Strowman segments? Magical. Kevin Owens? Amazing.
