I'm sure its a perfectly fine device but most Android mini versions are really gimped. In the case of the One Mini, the main problems are the 1GB of RAM and lack of OIS. For a simple user, its probably not a problem but the lack of OIS is a huge downer if you use your camera a lot.

Yeah, fair call. I'm one of those weirdos that mainly uses it for calling people. Music and maps is about all the other use I get.

It is awfully thin and light though, which is a great tradeoff to me.

Played some Super Mario 3D World with my girlfriend on the weekend. Game is pretty good, but not giving me the same feels that Galaxy did. It's the first 3D platformer my girlfriend has ever played, so it's interesting watching her brain try to work out how to actually control something from this perspective (she knows how to play FPS games, RTS and 2D stuff).

Also, she has no Nintendo attachment from childhood so this is her first Mario game. She thinks the characters are cute enough (especially the Cats) but the art direction and music pale in comparison to Rayman. Can't say I disagree actually!

ClivePwned - I need a blurb about Miner 2049er to include in the book!

In other news, putting together a book is a fucking pain in the ass of last minute 'oh yeah I forgot to do X' every hour on the hour. Aaaaagh I just want this thing donnnnnne

Nice looking phone!

You mean fuck you Telstra right? They keep changing the deal :(

This fucking sucks though. Will probably move the wife onto the $30 plan. The drop in data fucking sucks.

I had more data on my last Telstra contract (same price point) then I do on my current one, ridiculous. I was really wanting to go to aldi as they used to have awesome data which is what I only use nowadays. 1gb is a ridiculous amount, which is what I'm stuck with at the moment.

SMG takes a giant shit on 3D World from a great height.

3D World is a fun little platformer full of fan appeal. Not much more than that.

Aye, it is looking that way but it's still early days. I do appreciate that you can control it using a sideways Wiimote though for easy multiplayer.

I really like the Xperia line, they are sexy little phones that aren't bloated with crap that takes away from stock Android, but the update schedule remains abso-fucking-terrible.

Until there's a Nexus mini, I think the Z1 is fine.

I still kind of wish I'd gone for a Nexus, as sexy as my Z is.

Its the only small-ish Android phone that isn't complete shit, yes. The longer you wait, the cheap it will likely get. They're not like Apple products where the price is stagnant even after 2 years, they drop like a rock fairly quickly.

I would keep using the 4S unless its basically dead because if you wreck it overseas, you probably won't feel so bad. If you're not bringing any smartphone overseas, the 4S' resell value probably won't much assuming its already out of warranty and Apple doesn't release new phones.
Fair call. I was eyeballing the "free" $199 Sony headphones as well, but it's likely I'd never use them anyway.

I think Telstra have exclusivity on the Z1 Compact (not sure if it's time-limited or for the lifetime of the device) so I dunno if that'll affect whether the price will drop or not. How long should I wait?

Wish I never switched to ALDIMobile.

fuck you aldi
Fuck. I was loving their $15 for 2GB/month bolt-on just for random data shit. I don't need 3GB and I sure as shit don't want to spend twice as much for only 50% more. Fuck.

I wasn't so much talking about Telstra but online stores like Kogan. The full size Xperia Z1 launched at $750 or thereabouts. A month or two after launch, some places were selling it for around $600-650. Now you can get it new for around $550.

After the initial hype, all smartphones decrease in price and you can find them for quite cheap if you look around. For instance, the LG G2's sale price tanked to under $500 after only a few months. Its hard to say since the Xperia Z1 Compact can already be found for pretty cheap but its safe to say that the price will decrease after its fully launched in Europe and Asia.

The bluetooth headset (DR-BTN200) has a realistic market price of $100. Sony audio products are either shit (99% of stuff) or really bloody good (ES receivers and amps). I doubt its particularly good and you probably won't get a good price on eBay/Gumtree.

So to answer your question, go on holiday and then decide from there. It'll be in Telstra stores everywhere so you can give it a try and see if you actually like it since its actually a pretty chunky phone. The 4S' resale price should remain consistent while the Xperia Z1 Compact's sale price should drop.

What's wrong about Aldi mobile out of curiosity? I keep hearing that its cheap and fairly decent.
The Galaxy Sn Mini series aren't bad. I'm still using a Galaxy S3 Mini I bought out of necessity last year and besides it being TouchWiz (which I'm personally not a big fan of) and a couple of versions of Android behind (4.1 or 4.2) it's a pretty good phone.

Damn it's been a long time since I read non-Gaz webcomics. Really need to get back into Sam & Fuzzy soon. I wonder if Dr McNinja is still practicing!

I like that 'non-Gaz webcomics' could be a genre. :p

New comic idea Gaz.

So awesome :)

I AM NOT READY FOR IT TO BE MONDAY MORNING AGH

I actually played some video games last night! Gave LEGO Marvel a bit of a bash. I love it. It has Spider-Man in it and I think he's cool. Thanks Rep for the heads up about the $7 GMG deal.

Anyone have an extension to stop Sportal taking over NBA.com every week? >_<

Enjoy your trip! Take lots of photos! Don't stalk too many SC2 players over there!

Also good luck to Shaneus on your trip too! Let us know how many times the Americans open a beer with a shotgun pellet!

what sort of blurb?

but you could type in the phone number printed on the cartridge and get level select.
It played My Darling Clementine over the front end. also, very few games had much, if any music in 1982. Game developers didn't think much of game audio then.
nothing's changed

First attempt at baking a cake.
Was hoping it would have risen a bit more.

that's pretty credible for a first attempt. keep it up.
Things to look out for when you're starting baking- measuring ingredients exactly and not substituting ingredients. Also, make sure the oven is hot enough. Cooking times can vary- a smaller oven will need less time than a bigger one.
also, don't bang the oven door shut when you're baking.

Since it hasn't sunk in the middle- i'd plum for an issue with ingredients. Maybe the SR flour, bi-carb or baking power wasn't fresh enough.

God Optus are making playing Titanfall impossible.

Can't be played on Optus Cable between 2pm and 2am. Ridiculous.

I'm having flashbacks to when I had Telstra cable a decade ago. They had some stupid 'heartbeat' thing which meant I had to disconnect it between every round of an online game.

Props on SAM. Got me playing Jetpack again. Everyone loves free stuff!

Works well considering you guys added extra advertisements to the game, will easily offset the lost income from the pickups.

Just realised I forgot to keep playing Smart As every day. My run of one week is wasted now >_<

Yeah, I remember someone once said that baking is a science, and cooking is an art. So, if you're starting out baking, follow the recipe as closely as you can.

I find it amusing I've played more than 10 hours of Spelunky, with probably fewer than 20 runs that weren't daily challenges. I'm still rubbish at it.

What aspects of the process are you focusing on? From inception to completion of the entire project, or more from your point of view with level design?

Inception to completion - it went through a lot of completely different ideas to solve the problem of "trying to keep players engaged in the game for longer", the giant Robot was the last one.

Also a bit about what it's like being part of a team that takes over for another team, which is a difficult thing to do while trying to keep creativity up.

I think the newer generation ones are all right, you won't get line rate but will still get decent speeds. It doesn't compare to straight ethernet, but in a pinch I would use one.

Thanks Clive, ingredients were fresh, I just didn't add any baking soda to the mix. I also over cooked a bit so the top developed a nice crust, but that's just how I like it :)

So I assume holycheck is going to SK? Hope to see some cool/dumb pics!

I really wish I was back in Syd for the baseball this weekend:(

Conundrum: should I bring my Wii to site with me if I am also bringing a 3DS and PSP? I have a backlog of Wii/GC/VC games, but it almost seems like too much video game stuff.

First trip will likely be my last opportunity to take it because of strict weight restrictions on flights on later trips (first trip is by bus). I'll be there for a year.

It depends on how much you expect to socialize when you're there and how much free time you expect you'll have. If you expect to have 2 or 3 hours per day to devote to playing games and have 365 days to fill... I don't have time to do the maths on that but conservatively, it must be getting into the tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of hours that you'll have. Are the games that you have for the 3DS and PSP enough to fill that time?

Yesterday I finished The Last of Us. Yesterday was the day I realised that The Last of Us was the most overrated game of the PS3's generation.

Sure the story is great
except the non-freaking-ending
, but it's so marred by boring combat and AI on both sides of the game that is so incredibly stupid. A few times AI on my side help alert the enemy. Meanwhile, zombies are having a hard time finding a path to me, when they detect my presence.

Combine that with graphics, which look like they are pushing the PS3 hardware way too far, almost like Naughty Dog wished it was on PS4, and you've just got an underwhelming title.

For all the accolades and fandom this game received, I swear I played a different game to everyone else.

Now, onto AC4 and inFamous: Second Son. Plus I still need to finish GTAV.

Off to see QOTSA and NIN tonight!!

365 x 3 is only 1195.

I don't know how much socialising will get done, to be honest, but I don't plan on watching much TV.

I only just bought the PSP though. At least let me get paid once or twice.
