This game gave me hell trying to setup, mainly due to me have a 64-bit PC

What does having a 64-bit PC have to do with it? I double click the game and it runs =P

Alright, thanks for the advice guys, Crysis is up and running. It just looks incredible. So how do i go about choosing my optimal settings? I did the optimal system settings and they came back as High for all options, that's running in native res 2560x1440, with a 25-35 FPS range. Or should I lower the resolution to 1920x1080 and run everything in very high, which gave me about the same FPS range? 1080 seemed a little blurry, even though I could crank the settings higher.

What about Anti-Aliasing and Vsync? I didn't notice any difference with AA on, but maybe because it is currently dark in game.

Cheers mate. I seems I can change to very high without a difference in FPS. It's running perfectly smooth in native so I will stick with that. I'm seriously blown away that my iMac is running this at that res, it's the best looking game I have ever seen. Will check out that guide.

Is this a legit email from Sony? I ask because I don't ever remember setting up an account with SOE, though I suppose it's possible I have done so.

Well, I just went to sony.com and navigated through rather than following the email link, and it turns out I do have an SOE account. It has a postcode from about ten years ago, but the account's there.

I need to start getting the expansions for RftG but the base set has enough depth to it that it hasn't been necessary yet. Plus I don't want to overwhelming people with expansions as only a few people from my regular group have more than a handful of games under their belt and Race takes quite a few games to get a grip on.

I celebrated the release of LA Noire by playing The Witcher 2 until midnight. Finally stepped foot out of town. Damn this game is dense, in a fantastic way. Had some PC problems this morning because of shutting down after a Windows Update last night. Seems to happen sometimes that on restart the hard drives disappear. Eventually Startup Repair works well enough to find the damn thing and it goes back to working as normal. Some dust must have been stuck in my old Coolermaster PSU as it seems to have overheated and the power kept getting cut, continuing the annoyance of the morn. Again, seems to be running fine (and cooler) now but the silver lining is that my fiancée seems to agree a new PC is in order once we can do it comfortably. I'll take that as a good morning.

1940's LA all looks the same from the window seat with little to characterise each neighbourhood and apart from heavy traffic the streets aren't particularly lively.

Sounds a bit like GTA4 to me.

Within the confines of the tutorial, several elements are introduced that, at least in early stages of the game, don't gel together that well. Driving, gunplay, and foot chases all stand out as discrete gameplay 'moments' and don't transition into each other in a seamless manner.

My mate hates GTA because he says it tries to do everything but as a result everything is mediocre. Rather than having a tight, polished experience it just becomes too frustrating for him to play since he has played more specialised games like Forza or Gears.

As a stylised narrative, however, the game is tip top. The best facial animations yet seen in a game make up for the technical short-fallings of the presentation and the dialogue is exceptionally well thought out. There's flashbacks and extensive sequences of banter on long drives and the writers have nailed the tone and atmosphere pretty damn well.
It's an adventure game, and the game is at its strongest when it sticks to that tune and not the sandbox component. What the game will really need to do to amaze me is to tie together the two parts of the game in an effective way and offer me more to do in the Los Angeles they've created.

Sounds a lot like Mafia 2 but as a cop, which obviously sounds great to me. Looking forward to picking this up once I've polished off my other story based games.

Couldn't agree more. In fact I said pretty much the same thing here, and here.
I didn't terribly enjoy the original game but the DLC was fantastic.

Great writeup on Alan Wake, I feel the same way so maybe it is time for me to try the DLC. Alan Wake is still the biggest disappointment of my adult life so I hope that Remedy can still make a game that will make me smile like Max Payne. I am now subscribed to your newsletter.

Yeah, they are pretty much worth getting just for the fact it increases the deck size, adds a couple nice features (goals, more players, more start worlds) and you just play with mostly the same rule-set... ie. we tend to play without take-overs and probably won't start using the new prestige system for a while.
