My own wife can't understand my accent.

I get home.

"Hey, I've got this new game I think you might like - LA Noire."

"Eh? Alien Water? Sounds BORING."

Ask Suda 51 about him making punk games. I don't imagine it has to be a super specific question, I can see him just wall of wording you. Do it!

Try it in non fullscreen and switch between dx9 and dx10.

This game gave me hell trying to setup, mainly due to me have a 64-bit PC

What does having a 64-bit PC have to do with it? I double click the game and it runs =P

Alright, thanks for the advice guys, Crysis is up and running. It just looks incredible. So how do i go about choosing my optimal settings? I did the optimal system settings and they came back as High for all options, that's running in native res 2560x1440, with a 25-35 FPS range. Or should I lower the resolution to 1920x1080 and run everything in very high, which gave me about the same FPS range? 1080 seemed a little blurry, even though I could crank the settings higher.

What about Anti-Aliasing and Vsync? I didn't notice any difference with AA on, but maybe because it is currently dark in game.

I celebrated the release of LA Noire by spending the night arguing with my girlfriend about the legality of specific tile placements in Carcassonne.

Run the game at native res, but just play around with the different settings until you get an ice smooth FPS

This is a fantastic website for guides on tweaking games on PC: http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_6.html

VSync will stop tearing and a lot of the time I don't notice the AA cause I'm running around blowing stuff up.

Cheers mate. I seems I can change to very high without a difference in FPS. It's running perfectly smooth in native so I will stick with that. I'm seriously blown away that my iMac is running this at that res, it's the best looking game I have ever seen. Will check out that guide.

I was just looking in my Spam folder, as I do every now and then, and noticed an email from "Sony Online Entertainment info@soe.sony.com" entitled "Important Notice - SOE Game Services Resume", with a "Reset your password" link which goes to https://account.station.sony.com/cam/resetRequired/ (and which the SSL certificate appears to verify).

Is this a legit email from Sony? I ask because I don't ever remember setting up an account with SOE, though I suppose it's possible I have done so.

For those wondering, it takes four episodes worth of season two of 'The League' to sleeve the entire set of cards in Nightfall.

Haha, speaking of games... the 3rd expansion for Race for the Galaxy arrived today... need to go get some sleeves.

Anyone up for a Terraria 4 pack?
I probably will be... it sounds awesome (like a less laborious version of Minecraft which I vow never to get into). How much is it in the pack?

Fake edit: Actually, no. I won't grab it. I just bought DJ Hero 2 yesterday on the cheap, that's pretty much my new game quota for the month.

Not too sure about the address but my Sony emails have also been appearing in my spam folder recently.

STAR CONTROL 1 AND 2 ARE ON GOG.

Even though Ur-Quan masters is out, it'd be worth getting for the soundtrack (zomg <3) and starmap. May also be of note because if someone's managed to license it, (I guess) there's a chance we could see further ports/sequels. Maybe.

It's only $7.50 in the 4 pack :D

Well, I just went to sony.com and navigated through rather than following the email link, and it turns out I do have an SOE account. It has a postcode from about ten years ago, but the account's there.

Lucky for me I haven't changed my email address in 12 years! Unlucky for me that I used a pretty common password. Lucky for me I've been phasing that one out...

I need to start getting the expansions for RftG but the base set has enough depth to it that it hasn't been necessary yet. Plus I don't want to overwhelming people with expansions as only a few people from my regular group have more than a handful of games under their belt and Race takes quite a few games to get a grip on.

I celebrated the release of LA Noire by playing The Witcher 2 until midnight. Finally stepped foot out of town. Damn this game is dense, in a fantastic way. Had some PC problems this morning because of shutting down after a Windows Update last night. Seems to happen sometimes that on restart the hard drives disappear. Eventually Startup Repair works well enough to find the damn thing and it goes back to working as normal. Some dust must have been stuck in my old Coolermaster PSU as it seems to have overheated and the power kept getting cut, continuing the annoyance of the morn. Again, seems to be running fine (and cooler) now but the silver lining is that my fiancée seems to agree a new PC is in order once we can do it comfortably. I'll take that as a good morning.

1940's LA all looks the same from the window seat with little to characterise each neighbourhood and apart from heavy traffic the streets aren't particularly lively.
Sounds a bit like GTA4 to me.

Bernbaum said:
Within the confines of the tutorial, several elements are introduced that, at least in early stages of the game, don't gel together that well. Driving, gunplay, and foot chases all stand out as discrete gameplay 'moments' and don't transition into each other in a seamless manner.
My mate hates GTA because he says it tries to do everything but as a result everything is mediocre. Rather than having a tight, polished experience it just becomes too frustrating for him to play since he has played more specialised games like Forza or Gears.

Bernbaum said:
As a stylised narrative, however, the game is tip top. The best facial animations yet seen in a game make up for the technical short-fallings of the presentation and the dialogue is exceptionally well thought out. There's flashbacks and extensive sequences of banter on long drives and the writers have nailed the tone and atmosphere pretty damn well.
It's an adventure game, and the game is at its strongest when it sticks to that tune and not the sandbox component. What the game will really need to do to amaze me is to tie together the two parts of the game in an effective way and offer me more to do in the Los Angeles they've created.
Sounds a lot like Mafia 2 but as a cop, which obviously sounds great to me. Looking forward to picking this up once I've polished off my other story based games.

Couldn't agree more. In fact I said pretty much the same thing here, and here.
I didn't terribly enjoy the original game but the DLC was fantastic.
Great writeup on Alan Wake, I feel the same way so maybe it is time for me to try the DLC. Alan Wake is still the biggest disappointment of my adult life so I hope that Remedy can still make a game that will make me smile like Max Payne. I am now subscribed to your newsletter.

You two should start your own site! Choc can handle the fearmongering and Serrels can handle the gaming stuff! The podcasts would be hilarious.

Yeah, they are pretty much worth getting just for the fact it increases the deck size, adds a couple nice features (goals, more players, more start worlds) and you just play with mostly the same rule-set... ie. we tend to play without take-overs and probably won't start using the new prestige system for a while.

:)

PS. Rocking/nerding out to the Star Control 2 soundtrack at work. So nerdy yet so awesome.

It's pretty damn rich though, but luckily I love rich sweets.
Thanks a bunch, I have most of those ingredients on hand, but not all, sadly.

If you like rich sweets, check these out: http://inkatrinaskitchen.blogspot.com/2011/03/peanut-butter-truffle-brownies.html

They also work well without the peanut better in the ganache or the peanut buttery filling if that's not your thing. It also makes for a quicker and cleaner time in the kitchen.

Mine turned out like this:

i4Ulw.jpg

Looks messy cause I was lazy and cut them up with a butter knife. I also hand whipped the filling, rather than with a machine.

They look awesome man, I can almost smell the chocolate and peanut butter through the monitor! And I LOVE peanut butter so I'll definitely try and make these at some point next week.

Do the same sketch, get him to sign one so you can keep that and he can keep the other. Sell it on ebay for mad profits.

Yum! I love peanut or caramel slice, having a chicken wrap for lunch and always love putting peanut butter and mayo in there.

Man this would be more exciting if my ride showed up now like he's supposed to, but I guess he's stuck in a meeting and we're going to be late. :T
