Windows 8 on the Windpad. HOLY FUCK. The future is now.

Running it on a shitty tablet (Dell Slate) with a shitty platform (Intel Atom with whatever crappy graphics it has) vs The Almighty AMD Fusion platform. The CPU itself ain't that flash, but a good GPU in conjunction with an OS designed to make the most of it will mask it no worries. Bit of a pain to navigate and get my head around, but the experience is as smooth as a pornstar's pubic region. And that's coming off a fresh build with no extra drivers installed at all. There are two unknown devices from what I can see, one of them being a bluetooth adapter.

But yeah, the pad is awesome (look, it's definitely a bit gaudy with the MSI logo) and from current experience, well worth getting for Windows 8.

Yeah, I can't get bluetooth to work. Also, do your 3 capacitive buttons on the side light up? Also wish the vibration was adjustable, it's pretty nuts so I turn it off.

I found the driver for it... it was azura something or other? It looks like it's the same bluetooth chipset as in some Asus device from memory (an Eee?). Either way, there are drivers out there. The three buttons don't light up, but I imagine it's nothing a visit to MSI's website to download drivers wouldn't fix.

Borderlands on sale again on steam. Will I buy it this time around, probably not.

I wasn't all that impressed with the kara tech demo. No surprise cage is still fascinated with mouth movements and they do look better his time around. Everything else seemed pretty standard.

Just a reminder...

SydGAF 3: Board Games 2: Electric Boogaloo (or insert better title) is happening this Sunday from 10am onwards at my place again.

Bring your own snacks/drinks (and take them with you) as I'll be on the diet that day, but we can still head out for lunch and stuff in the middle.

Confirmed attendees are: Clipper, Danoss, Doncamatic, Jintor, Rahk.

Anybody who is interested but doesn't know the details can contact me via PM.

Way late reply, but I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully the weather will be nice enough that I can ride there.

Also, no BanShunsaku? Boooo :( No offense to anyone else, I was just hoping for a full group.

The Cage tech demo was disappointing. Not from a tech perspective but from a derivative story perspective. Robot is self aware, wants to live, has emotions, likes puppies, wants to be more and will apply to be on Master Chef. Not particularly a story that needed to be made again. I was hoping for a story twist towards the end (anything to differentiate it from every other self-aware AI story that's been written in the last 60 years) like after Kara we see see another robot, who also has the same 'glitch'; once again it's allowed to live and we find out that's part of the programming. Robots that want to live and be loved are the top sellers, you been fooled, etc, etc.

I know it was only designed to be a tech demo but still, I've seen and read that story at least a half dozen or more times.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/03/08/valve-debunks-rumors-of-steam-box-console-pc/

Valve has quashed rumors that it is developing a console-like "Steam Box" hardware standard for its Steam service. Valve's Doug Lombardi told Kotaku that the company is "building boxes" to test its "Big Picture" initiative, which will make Steam play nice with PC setups that use a television set as a display. Lombardi also noted that Valve is experimenting with things like biometric feedback, which was another aspect of the console rumor, but that such experimentation is "a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware."

That said, Lombardi did not dismiss the possibility of Valve-developed hardware in the future.

Shaneus will be happy. :)

Can any of you Radelaiders suggest anything worth seeing, doing or places to eat in both McLaren Vale and Adelaide? I think the Fringe Festival is on this weekend, right?

I'm super tempted by some of those, More games to add to my shitty PS3 pile I guess.

I get the feeling ozbargains will have destroyed the site and all of the games by now though. So ordering probably isn't going to get me anywhere, There's a ton of stuff that's out of stock as well.

Yeah, Fringe is on, grab a guide or go to http://www.adelaidefringe.com.au/ That will be most of the attractions in the city covered, as for McLaren Vale, no clue, don't head out that way often, sorry.

Adelaide is a pretty sleepy town though, be prepared.

Thanks for that. We're in McLaren Vale for the booze (found out there's two breweries here too, sweet). Been to Adelaide before so we know what to expect but if there are any awesome food places only locals really know of (there are tons in Melbourne) I'd love to check them out.

Edit: Actually are there any bars like the Belgian Beer Cafe or Local Taphouse in Adelaide?

So AusGAF, question for you all:

Asking a woman out via Facebook - Yay/Nay/Maybe

Explanation: I have met her in real life, a few times, so it's not a creepy stalker situation. But I'm not sure when our paths would cross again.

Another convert to the club of "ME3's start is so fucking horrible how could you make this shit Bioware oh wtf now the game is suddenly great again."
I can't see how anyone could not agree. Big shift in quality thankfully

Okay, Seth Green just opened his mouth, I'm back on board with ME3
I really don't like him in ME.

Oh man, I saw Colbert had a "Johnathan safran" as his guest and I got excited. Nope, its some dude with a hyphenated last name who wrote that shitty recent Tom hanks movie.
Heh, I had the same thing happen to me. Was slightly disappointed.

Oh yay, ot gaf has discovered Gotye.
Was very pleased when I saw the Mark Ronson tweet saying how great that the UK charts finally had a song at number 1 that wasn't utter shit.

Some decent pickups if you search hard for them, lots of out of stock stuff though. The joys of a closing down sale!

LOGS also had those Gears 3 shirts which were okay. They all look horrible when people wear them though, need something a little more subtle like using one of the weapons companies logos or something. Idle Thumbs had a note about Remo wearing a Corley Motors shirt when he met Schaefer that is similar in what I mean, geeky yet only geeky if you knew the reference.

Through chat? Maybe. Only if you mean ask her out to a date like "wanna see this movie with me" or something. I don't see a problem with it, Facebook is a perfectly fine way of communicating with people.

I agree with Reptile on the logo thing. Either an in-game or in-movie logo, without any other adornments or go home.

Do it, Most people hook up via facebook these days. There's nothing wrong with it.

Send her a text message and be all charming with some swag, ask dat grl out to a moofie and stuff.

If you ask for her number then it seems a little obvious what you're getting at. You're message may as well be like

"Hey cute thing. I don't have your number and I don't know when our paths may cross again in the near future. However I was wondering if you would like to go out sometime for lunch/dinner/movie/church. Let a brotha know."

Going to class is for chumps.

What are humanity things? What do I use them for?

jump to the community thread, we'll be happy to answer all your questions there. but in a quick nutshell, humanity comes in two forms and serves several purposes. the two forms are the item that you can collect, and the number in the top left corner which is your "active" humanity.

The item is basically just a way of storing humanity to use later, consuming it adds it to the active counter. Consuming it also restores your health, and is one of the few ways to heal yourself as a summoned phantom or invader. (Summoned phantoms also get healed whenever the host uses an estus flask)

Active humanity can be used at bonfires to "reverse hollowing" which makes you a not-a-zombie-any-more, and it is only in this state that you can summon other players to your world (and also get invaded). It can also be used to "kindle" bonfires which increases the amount of estus flasks you receive when resting there. Additionally, there are certain NPC invasion events that only happen if you are alive in this sense.

Furthermore, for each point of active humanity you currently have, you get an increase in drop rates from enemies (Item Find on your stats page), there are diminishing returns and i think the bonus caps out at 30 humanities. You also get a small defence boost.

In addition there are weapons later in the game whose damage gets a bonus from the amount of active humanity you have. Again there are diminishing returns so there's no point trying to get 99 humanities just for that, but 10 is a good number.

The best way to learn to play the game imo is once you get the white soap-stone do as much co-op as a summoned phantom as you can. To co-op all you need to do is put your sign down in an appropriate place (usually around a bonfire) and to be within a similar level to other players in that area. This handy chart should indicate that (but is a little spoilery since it names all the areas) http://www.abload.de/img/darksouls-co-opguidep163z.jpg (the "how do i join" part refers to the warriors of sunlight covenant, which relaxes the level restrictions somewhat and gives access to a couple of neat miracles, if you have the faith to use them)

there is no penalty for dying as a summoned phantom (apart from occasional embarrasment ;) ) so it really is the best way to learn. good luck with it!

Hey the man is a christian, Hitting up a random church you have never been to with someone else could be an interesting experience. I assume each church is different in it's own way.

Work also doesn't end, Which is annoying. If only the unemployment market wasn't increasing I might just bail out and take a holiday then try and figure out what bullshit I can do for a new job. I totally wish I had the confidence to actually get a different job. Impossible it seems.

hahaha "hitting up a random church", you make is sound like a pub crawl

One of the guys here just took a voluntary redundancy and after today is on early retirement, I am jelly.

Cliffy B says some damn awesome things. Mind blown. Haven't thought much of him this generation and most of his interviews have disappointed me. Nice to hear some logic from him.

Finished watching stargate universe s2 last night. Such a depressing end to a series and show overall. As someone who has watched sg1 since the beginning, universe is possibly the best overall, or at least equal to sg1 best bits early on. Though I did also like the end of sg1 and ori too. Maybe its time to watch Atlantis properly.

In other news, the following awesome things have happened so far with my Windpad:
* Installed Windows 8, runs amazingly
* Upgraded RAM to 4gb, runs amazinglyer
* Ordered 64gb top-shit mSATA SSD, should be top-shitter
* Found out that it's using a better GPU than I thought (6310 vs 6250) which is fucking AMAZING

I was blown away (ign.com) by the fact that I could install Media Player Classic, not adjust any settings at all and have it play a 1080p MKV with literally no jank or judder at all. The CPU barely budges! I'm in love with this device. Best purchase ever.

Its on all day errday.

Rundle st would be the best place in the city, but will be packed during fringe, if you want to go out of the city a bit (no more than a 10-15 bus ride, north adelaide (oconnel st, or melbourne st) or the parade in norwood are your good bets.

If you want to head up into the hills which is a bit more family friendly you have things like the street markets in stirling on sunday morning, or you could head to hahndorf the old german settled town which is a huge tourist area that has lots of nice food and food stores

Feeling the man love from Shaneus today.

Might be home alone tonight, question is, shall I get some beer/cider, if so, what sort!

Tough questions from Omi.

Edit: After bowling out WA for 142 yesterday, Tasmania are now 2 for 279, Cowan / Ponting both 100+ not out and powering along. Not bad on that green top I posted yesterday. Where is choc?

I'll see if I get the balls to do it. This could very well be a train girl situation.
