Those days were magical, in a primitive, gross kind of way.
Am I right in recalling that Games.On.Net wasn't very good? For some reason it sticks in my mind that they wrote a bunch of low scoring reviews for hits.jambo said:The ex editor of Games.On.Net is now running GameSpy and this is his latest article

Article was bad. He should feel bad for trying to write it.

jambo said:Back in the day the Internode Gaming Network was mostly run by a group of Internode guys and some community members. It was very laid back and more of a community gaming orientated site and not as much about news and reviews.
A few years ago they re-branded it to Games.On.Net and eventually got Bennett on board. He made a lot of changes, adding a lot of new weekly features and tonnes of reviews and video content. While it was good to see GON growing a bit and getting more hits, quite a large chunk of the community, mostly people who had been around since near the beginning, started to complain about the quality of some articles and some of the crazy review decisions.
For example, Gran Turismo 5 got a 3/5 from Bennett and his review pretty much only covered the negative aspects of the game. There was a huge thread on the forums about it filled with quite a lot of backlash.
They also split the reviews up in to 2 categories: Uber Reviews and 2-minute Reviews. It was all well and good, but then sometimes a huge blockbuster AAA game would come out and get a 5 paragraph 2-minute review instead of a 2 page Uber Review.
He also didn't seem to handle the criticism very well. He would be snarky and act like a smart arse when people would question or criticise him and he often used Twitter to have stupid arguments with people.
I think his main problem is he gets locked in to certain games or genres and then compares everything to them instead of looking at games objectively.

I refuse to believe this. Rule 34 alone makes it an inevitability. Just like without looking, I would put money on the fact that somewhere on the Internet is a site dedicated to equivalent photographs of the Queen.3chopl0x said:Well shit. Not one attempt at fake nudes, all I found was this
Yeah, I wiki'd my way through Demon's Souls as well. Mainly for weapon choice and upgrade path. I never got that pure bladestone drop though;_;Agyar said:From the media I've seen, it really does look like an updated version of Demon's Souls. Graphics, models, animation, even the UI are all very familiar. I got some enjoyment out of Demon's Souls but couldn't find the time to properly progress through the game before other things came out and it fell by the wayside.
Dark Souls looks more interesting to me because of the open-world aspect. The atmosphere in Demon's Souls was great but the gauntlet-style levels left me cold, especially when I felt the game needed an in-depth knowledge of some very complicated systems (tendencies especially, not to mention skills and equipment gathering). It's hard to really immerse yourself in it when you're having to play it and a wiki at the same time to get anywhere.
I may give it a whirl but if it requires the same level of wiki-fu, I'm afraid I may not stay for the long haul.

You haven't seen old porn until you've opened up a 256-colour JPG that's been dithered to display on a 16-colour screen. Never mind the fact that said image would take around 10 minutes to decode on an 8MHz machine.Rezbit said:I remember blowing up thumbnail sized naughty pics until they were pixellated on an old yellowing CRT.
I also remember my mate who was the first to get a computer (a 486 or something) had Leisure Suit Larry. That seemed pretty raunchy.

Jeez. I found my stash of crappy print outs when I went back home last month in the cavity underneath my desk drawers. Shit was super low resolution and washed out as hell. Still got me aroused so it stands the test of time.BanShunsaku said:And then, in my case, printed on a mono dot matrix printer.

Theres more joy too in that I'm pretty sure my profile is currently only set to 16MBps so theres even more room for improvement
Going to be a fuuuuuuuuun weekend

Never mind every single Sierra game. Navigating that tentacle maze in Space Quest 2 would be a cinch.RandomVince said:I don't understand the Bennett hate, Diablo III would be great if it were made into an FPS. While we're at it, so would lots of games:

I'd love to move back to North Adelaide or somewhere near town at some point, for both the convenience of being near work and town and the uber fast Internet!
