In my SA polling station at least there's a copy of each how to vote card taped up in every booth. Handing them out is pointless, but I guess the people have to take a break from putting up 4x4 displays of the exact same fucking poster at some point.

I assume some people use them otherwise the money could be better spent elsewhere in the campaign. Its like Banner ads online. Someone must click on them.

OK, the fact is that as a result of automation soon (within half a century) most people will be unemployed. So what seems to be happening is that people are going to be given jobs that are cheaper to do manually than automated (cleaning, trimming plants, nannies) . But the cost for labour is too much so, why not give a basic wage of sorts and give people something to do rather than having them all stay home and get paid? Having people just stay home and get paid a basic wage will just increase the rate of mental illness (people generally like being with other people).

Expect soon for 457 visa to be removed/heavily restricted on the basis of being politically popular (but not really) , but the work for the dole to pay lower per hour than the minimum wage.

Expect a class system of sorts of the haves and have not.

Expect a future government to end offshore processing and allow refugees to settle in Australia only because the birthrate will be too low.

And expect this to happen worldwide.

Of course, Abbott and co. are doing this for their own agenda but I assure you that Labour would be thinking the same way.

Oh, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if prostitution is about to skyrocket by businesses offering jobs as masseurs and then offering "special services" cash in hand to supplement income since single mums (and dads) are not going to find it possible to survive especially with mortgages on just the dole since jobs are going to only become more scarce.

I'm honestly wondering why neither major party are actually considering the notion of a basic income. It can replace so many welfare schemes easily, allow businesses to decrease wages/salaries, and the evidence from previous experiments into basic income indicate that unemployment decreases only a little. It levels the playing field for everyone, and provides money that circulates back into the economy, and those who make additional income get taxed, with a progressive tax rate ensuring that those with higher incomes basically fund much of the basic income. As a result, the 'welfare state' is dramatically simplified, everyone has a safety net, and losing your job isn't so much of a big deal anymore. Everyone wins.

Also, on another note, David Pope knocks it out of the park yet again:

RIP gaming PC plans of 2016.

Now I actually have to seriously consider a job overseas after graduating since there's clearly nothing left in Australia for youths.

Oh, and the coalition won NSW.

This result was hardly unexpected, but the Greens have certainly gotten a huge swing this time. Baird's privatization plans will most certainly depend on the makeup of the Legislative Council, and whether the crossbenchers will actually go for it, because there's actually speculation that the plan won't have enough support.

I was so confused as to who the No Land? Tax! Party were

The Liberal party spruikers in Coogee were incredibly old ladies. Like incredibly old.

I voted Greens preferencing Libs (ew), coz state Labor is gross

Asio? Wouldn't it be better to have electrical engineers look at it instead?

What would Asio do? Make sure none of the power poles are (wait for it) plants?

ASIO would have access to the Chinese's emails and phone conversations and would find a definite answer. Wouldn't hurt to have some engineers as well.

Not sure why the words "Chinese" or "foreign" are in there. Should just say "inquiry into whether sale of power lines is safe"

Hockey laying the foundation to tax middle income earners more.

Also I wonder if the libs regret dumping 2 potential revenue streams.

So Joe Hockey is talking about how Australia is "losing control of our destiny" because of "tax holes"... Except Labor already proposed measures that would close up multinational tax loopholes. Instead, the treasury proposes raising the GST and lowering income/company taxes.

Fucking conservatives.

Ugh. The anti-progressive taxation forces are on the march again.

Yeah. Getting rid of the brackets to solve bracket creep issues is the right solution.

Something for nothing!

now you can do something for something

i.e. you can have a job

except we won't call it a job and we won't pay it like a job and you won't have the benefits of a job because fuck you

The requirements are:
  • undertake 20 job searches per month, with Employment Providers having the flexibility to tailor this requirement according to a job seeker’s individual circumstances and local labour market conditions
  • agree to a Job Plan that will outline what they will do to improve their work readiness and to follow through on these commitments
  • complete Work for the Dole or another approved activity (such as part time work, part time study in an eligible course, participation in accredited language, literacy and numeracy training or volunteering) for 25 hours per week for six months each year if they are aged under 30 years
  • complete Work for the Dole or another approved activity for 15 hours per week for six months each year if they are aged 30 to 49 years
  • complete an approved activity for 15 hours per week for six months each year if they are aged 50 to 59 years.
So over 50s have to do something else (study, volunteer work etc) 15 hours a week. the voluntary work CAN be WFD, but doesn't have to be for them, they have slightly more options.
