I had to complete a physical agility test, a written test, an oral interview, a polygraph, a background investigation, a psychological exam, a health physical, and an interview with the chief. Then I completed a 16 week Academy, followed by an additional seven weeks of in-house training. Then I did an additional 15 weeks of field training. The whole process from turning in my application to being on my own was about a year.

Only 1 year? Takes 2.5 years for cops in Sweden to be fully done with the education. 1 year seems to be too low for such a job.

According to the driver, there was a cyclist passing on the passenger side that both cops were watching. She probably slapped the car to get their attention as she was the one they needed to talk to about the 911 call.

There was a great article from the Washington Post about how police control the language of media releases whenever they kill someone. It's never "Cop shot person" It's now the abstract "Suspect died in police involved shooting." Victims of the policing killing someone are treated in abstract vagueness. The person just happened to die and a cop was somewhat connected to the matter.

It's also worth noting that this was in the middle of the night in a quiet neighborhood, if the reports of tapping/slapping the car are correct it makes sense that she would rather do that than start yelling to get their attention.

It's to avoid assigning legal culpability. In the extremely unlikely and bizarre event that the coroner declares the cause of death a heart attack or something, they don't want to be on record as admitting the officer caused her death as it could have legal implications.
