Australia's mouse plague is nightmarefuel

We're living through literal biblical stories. Fires, floods, plagues, sickness...sad AF. The government and large corporations need to provide way more support for our farmers and rural areas. You've got corporates still making billions of profit each quarter/year and it needs to balance back to the primary producers during such times.

First crop out of a drought. £60,000 worth of stock. Mice running over your bed sheets at night. The smell of death. Absolutely brutal. Poor fuckers.

Dude, that is depressing.

How widespread is it? I mean if it’s messing with the nation’s food supply you’d think they’d go into wartime mode and do everything in their power to stop it.

If I were those farmers, and I didn’t think the gov cared about my situation, I’d go into a different line of work. Damn that mouse head in the drain-out of my nightmares.

Current estimates are 5-10% crops. Mice plagues are not unusual but this scale and timing from Covid and fires and drought is unprecedented.

We need our agriculture backbone in this country, big part of our exports and industries. Unfortunately suicide is a real concern for farmers too, they do it fucking tough. Honestly our people and government need to do way more to combat the corporate raping of their hardwork and our resources.
