Well three hours later I'm done cleaning. The clay bar worked wonders on whatever it was hanging out in my wax, just took it right the hell out. Waxed it and here's hoping it doesn't get full of crap again.

It looks nice, but I didn't enjoy myself!

Argh next time use this instead of the Clay Bar. Will go so much faster and give you the same result.

I got my Android Auto update installed this morning, and I was able to get a few pics taken of it in action. I took a couple others but they didn't turn out so well. And don't worry, I was stopped at the time (at a gas station).

Lol I washed my Miata this weekend and I thought I was gonna die from the terrorizing Texas heat and humidity.

I started around 3PM, washed and used my blower + towel to get the water spots out. An hour later when I finished that part, my shirt was literally drenched all over. I went back inside to grab a cold Gatorade and some snacks while I waited for the car to cool down inside the garage. Came back at 4:30 and it didn't even take 5 minutes for me start sweating all over. I started waxing the hood by hand and by the end of it, I just couldn't do it anymore. So I grabbed my quick detailer and went to town instead. An hour later I was lying down outside the door leading to my garage and house lol.

Next time I'm gonna wash my Miata, I'm gonna get an orbital buffer and an industrial shop fan or something to keep me cool.

I feel yas. That said, I only wax once a quarter with a synthetic and use Surf City Garage Hot Rod detailing spray every week between those. That shit is fantastic - you basically use it like you would Windex (spray on, wipe clean), but it gives fantastic results between 'real' waxings.

Haven't gotten to spend a whole lot of time with it yet, but I like what I see so far. The maps are great. Very responsive, full pinch to zoom controls, and the best search/input I've used on a GPS.

Text reading and responding is very useful. It'd be nice if you could see the text content but I can see why they didn't go that route. Voice search is fun to play with and fast, and the translation tool is cool. Asking it "How do you say ‘Where is the library' in Spanish?" gives a quick and accurate response.

I'd like too see more app support, but I've sure that's coming. I've used PocketCasts before so I already had it installed, but it doesn't support feeds that require authentication (DoggCatcher does). And I prefer Slacker to Spotify. But at least I can use voice controls to say "play Giant Bombcast".

A G37 Coupe is a great daily driver. If you work in a place with snow, get the AWD X model. If you want things like navi, sports package and such, trim packages will determine that.
That's what I figured. I'll get the X model if I go with the G37.
You can get a Evo X MR with DCT if you don't think stick shift will be comfortable. Interior quality is not that great, but with a few small mods, it will offer better performance than any other car in this price range.

You could also get a 987 Cayman or Boxster S for under $40K and it will make a far better DD sportscar than a G37. 2009+ cars are very reliable and come with the bigger 3.4L motor from the 911.

I would also recommend E92 M3s if you need more seats. They're coming down in price now, and just like the Porsches, are far better than any Subaru/Infinity/Mitsu in that budget.

Of course, gas/maintenance/insurance is going to be higher on the Euro cars, but the experience is going to be exponentially better. Trust me. G37 is half the price, but every bit of it feels it. At least the Evo has it's performance going for it, but the G is even disappointing in that regard.
Yes I can get the Evo X MR, I was informed by my friend about the SST. Seems nice but I'm unsure about the cost of fixing it if something goes wrong.

Not sure I would get a Porsche. Are those only manual? Might be a problem for me :T

How much higher is the maintenance on that model BMW compared to the G37? Parents and I aren't too fond on dealing with stuff not working and having to be replaced at high costs and whatnot; at least that's what it sounds like with BMWs?

I just traded a G37 coupe for my 128i. The G37 sounded great, looked good and was fun to cruise around in. It's nowhere near as smooth and refined as the BMW in terms of powertrain or handling but you do get a lot of car for the money and they are dead reliable.

If you want a cool and fun car and don't want to worry too much about maintenance and repair then the G37 is a good choice. If, however, you've got the budget and can tolerate the repair bills then you can buy yourself a nice BMW in your budget range and it will be a better driving experience than the G.

Trust me, I wrestled with this exact same question for a couple of years. Even with the recent $1300 I've spent in maintenance and repairs on my 1 series I still wouldn't give it back. I like it that much.
Hmm G37 sounds better, financially, to me at least. Maybe when I'm working full-time as an engineer or something, I can consider getting a nicer car.

Taborcarn, you live in Aberdeen? I'm currently living across the river in Pocatello. Edit: looks like a different Aberdeen lol.

Assuming my budget isn't as high as I originally posted, what are some of the most reliable/fun/fast(?) DD cars I can get with a $20K budget? 30K budget? Is there an AutoGAF recommendation list? Lol. That would be pretty cool I think.

Feel so alone with my old ass Hondas and you guys with all your new fancy cars with electronics and things lol. Been debating getting something a bit more current but I just can't find anything that really pulls me in and gets me interested like the older cars still do.

I did however, manage to get my CRX detailed this weekend, as the paint was in need of a bit of a polish and correction. Came out great and will hopefully last through the summer.

The SST in the Evo X, hell the Evo X in general, is very reliable. My GSR was running over 400HP from almost day 1 for about 4 years without a single issue. Just did basic maintenance.

If you don't want a manual, Porsches after 2009 come with PDK, before then they were tiptronic. PDK is the best dual clutch transmission on the market in terms of speed, efficiency, smoothness, and reliability. A little while ago, I posted a video of a 560HP 991 Turbo S launching over 60 times back to back without a single issue or warning. Try doing that in any other car.

BMWs reliability is a hit or miss depending on the model and platform. The turbo models seem to have more issues than the N/A.

In my experience, the E90 generation of M3 is very reliable. The older E46 M3s had sub frame issues, and the turbo non M cars have had problems with fuel pumps and stuff, but I know several people with high mileage E92s that are running great years later.

I just don't like the Infinity G cars. They seem compromised. I've driven them a few times, but did not enjoy the experience.

If you want performance, get an Evo. If you want fun to drive, get a Miata or BRZ. If you want all of the above, plus a dose of luxury and class, get a Boxster S, Cayman S or M3.

If you want something newer and under warranty, you might be able to find an M235i within your budget.

That is a very clean CRX, nice car. I'm dailying a 79 Trans Am. Our cars may be very different, but I'm willing to bet they have a few things in common. Manual windows right? You're not alone! Old cars rule.

I drove a 997 911 Turbo and a F80 M3 at work today.

I liked the M3... felt really comfortable but I didn't like the auto revmatch on the manual tranny. I get it's purpose, especially for daily driving, but it ruined the driving experience with a stick for me. I wasn't even banging through the gears, just downshifting before getting on the on-ramp. The sound... it was loud. That's the only positive thing I can say about it lol.

Now the 911 Turbo... I loved loved it! I want one!! The only, and not necessarily, negative thing I can say is that the manual tranny had longer throws compared to my Miata lol. I don't care about the stiff suspension since I'm already used to it. I loved that you can actually revmatch manually compared to the other car, and despite it being old, the whole car felt comfortable and it might be a perfect daily driver.

I've already decided on getting the ND hard top whenever it comes out(and have actually stopped all my modding plans tbh), but if I find an older and even a base model 911/Cayman... it's gonna be really hard fighting the urge to get that instead of the Miata.

I feel yas. That said, I only wax once a quarter with a synthetic and use Surf City Garage Hot Rod detailing spray every week between those. That shit is fantastic - you basically use it like you would Windex (spray on, wipe clean), but it gives fantastic results between 'real' waxings.

Every week?!. Like I have the time to do that, but I can't devote that much time cleaning my Miata. I check the weather forecasts and make sure it'll stay clean and shiny for a week. After that, I really don't care if there's water splotches or dirt on it lol.

Manual windows, locks, no power steering and no radio. It at least has power sunroof lol. My prelude at least has power windows and power steering.

I love driving old cars. Gives people on the road something other than the usual designed by committee appliance on wheels to look at.

If it means anything to you and I am absolutely serious, given the choice and if I couldn't sell the car, I would take your pristine CRX over any of the luxurious german twangers posted in the recent pages. I for one would love to see the interior if its also in one piece. Your car is awesome.

I hear you. My car isn't that old (99 gsr), but I can't really bring myself to get super excited about anything new. Basically everything is faster than our cars these days, not to mention monumentally safer than our deathtraps, but I totally agree that they just don't hold my attention. There's something about clean 90s Japanese cars that draw my attention over just about anything else.

Your CRX and prelude (i think it's a prelude) are both absolutely amazing. But again, i'm kind of a fanboy for japanese cars from the late 80s to late 90s.

I appreciate the kind words. Here are a few pics of the interior. Second pic has the old momo knob that i took off and replaced with the sourced original one.

I dig all the older Japanese cars. 60s through the 90s, especially the obscure stuff that never left japan or came to the U.S. So many cool cars out there that I would love to just mess around with.

Honestly speaking, if I could find a clean, unmolested FD RX-7, I'd sell my soul to the devil to daily drive it. I don't care if it's unreliable as fnck(most people just don't know how to maintain it), that it drinks oil like it drinks gas, or that it's super uncomfortable to drive. It's basically my dream car.

But realistically speaking, I don't have the time nor knowledge to replace the apex seals or the motor every 2 years. Parts are super hard to come by and if they do, they are super expensive. Maintenance is relatively cheap but you can't just take it to a Mazda dealership these days as they don't work on them anymore IIRC, you'd have to find a rotary specialist to work on it. Basically what I'm saying is, the RX-7 is just a very impractical car to own. You'd have to be a total rotary nut to own one.

Now the same thing can be said if I somehow end up with a Porsche instead of the new Miata, but at least it's not a rotary and the only prohibitive factor are the price for parts and labor to get things working. I can just take it to a Porsche dealer and they can get it back up working in no time, whereas with the RX-7, I'd have to phone Takahashi Ryosuke to send me some parts and find a reputable rotary shop to work on it.

Oh btw, have you seen this? Regular Car Reviews: Honda CRX Si

oh god. the FD RX7. One of my favorite japanese sports cars to look at but by god is that motor a freaking nightmare time bomb from hell. A buddy of mine has had one since high school and I think has amassed somewhere in the range of minutes driven in it with it actually running 100% correct. We took a trip down to PA to have it tuned a few times. Rotary specialists are hard to come by and when you find one it will either be a millions miles away or insanely expensive...or both.

That review was amazing! I had a 2G a while ago and yea, that thing with the thieves is on point. That's why i don't own a Honda newer than 1987 at this point.

Speaking of Japanese cars, I just played a JDM Icons championship in Forza Horizon 2 last night and it totally reignited my love for those cars.

Cycled between a 2016 Miata, RX8 R3, NSX Type-R, and R32 Skyline V-Spec.

I know it's just a videogame, but god damn did those cars have amazing handling balance and feel! There was just a lightness to the whole process that is not present in many other cars in the game. I felt like I could dance on the edge of grip through every curve. Excited to test drive the new Miata when it arrives in showrooms.

Also, the Porsche expansion came out today, and I loved doing the Sports Car championship in the Cayman GTS. It was also very well balanced. :)

Jackson, you have an Xbox One?

One disappointing thing is the sound though. It doesn't have the sports exhaust in the game so no loud barking and popping. :(

I got like 150+ hours in Forza Horizon 2 lol. Haven't played in awhile though. Was a great game.

They also announced Forza 6 will have Porsches at launch. Should be awesome. Rumored release date is September 18th.

CRX's are awesome! A CRX Si was one of my "dream" cars when I was in high school. They still have a great look to them and are light and fun. It may be 25+ years old but a CRX is still very much a "driver's" car.

Yeah. A lot of the issues with the RX-7 is just wrong maintenance or apex seals lol. There's an acquaintance of mine who has an FC with the 13B-REW from the FD and he replaces the apex seals every 30k miles and rebuilds the engine every 60k. He's a rotary nut and a master mechanic for a Mazda dealership in Houston so he knows full well how these things are supposed to be maintained.

Anyway, what is the draw with the thieves and 90's Hondas? S2k's I can understand, but why would somebody want to steal a Del Sol or a EK Civic? Are these thieves still stuck in the 1st Fast and Furious movies?

I started drooling until I saw it was a Tiptronic and totally lost interest lol. Manuals FTW!
PDK's are cool too lol.

Kidding aside, it'll be a year before I can buy a ND Miata or Porsche. I've still got a year left in payments on my Miata so I need to finish paying it off first before I can start my search. I'm hoping to get it on August 2016... just in time for my birthday haha.

I've heard they're very easy to steal and that there's so many around that there's always a market for stolen, used parts.

Incredibly easy to break into and the parts are worth more than cars. You only need another Honda key and away you go pretty much.

As already stated the cars are easy to steal and part out. That's the main reason why I went with the older Honda's that are still easy to steal but no one wants parts for. Besides if anyone steals an older Honda and tries to flip the parts 90% of the community will know who/where those parts came from.

Came here to post the new 7-series.

And also came here to make fun of how bad it looks. The last one wasn't particularly good looking (especially from the rear), but then again the old S-Class it competed against was pretty ugly itself.

But today we have the all new jaw dropping S-Class and the Jaguar XJ...and then this downright snooze-inspiring BMW. Who the hell designed this thing? There's no grace to it. Nothing even remotely daring.

Bavarian Motor Works?

More like Bore-varian Motor Works.

Sweet. What time are you guys usually online?

New BMW 7 Series:

Yawn. Mercedes S Class owns this. Only BMW I'm looking forward to at this point is M2.

I'm looking to get rid of my evo 9 and get into something more exciting.

I'm honestly kind of bored with it at this point.

Gonna need more to go on. What's exciting? Would also help if we had a budget.

Without either of those pieces of info, I'd recommend a BAC Mono. That's plenty exciting.

I love Rev Happy Engines that are light weight.

Sounds like you want a motorcycle. lol

But seriously, not sure what would fit in that category in the price range. Maybe S2000, BRZ, or 2016 MX-5?

Keep in mind that those are going to feel pretty slow coming from an Evo however.

True. Drove my buddies BRZ and it felt anemic. S2000 feels cramped, and the 0-60 times of the MX-5 put me off.

Maybe I should just put some more mods into it.

Yeah, it's hard to find something under $30K that handles better and goes faster than a modded Evo.

You either have to raise your budget, or make some compromises in performance for cars that are better in other regards.
