So for Glitter Force... when the scenes randomly darken up, it that an edit or is that how the original footage was?
That has to be an edit, because I don't remember that in the original. But I haven't watched them since they aired, so maybe my memory is wrong.

It's pretty distracting regardless.

So, slight point of order: Do we make a winter thread after the fall season ends (by the end of next week) or do we wait until winter anime starts (ie: in ~2 weeks)?

Oh this makes me quite happy :3
I assume it's whenever whoever is making it is ready to post it. Given the "controversy" over the OP, maybe it'll take longer or something.

Well the only reason to have the thread open early is to have people hyping over upcoming things which usually just means lots of spam at the start of the thread. On that count might be better to open it later and this will do fine for that.

So, I got through to episode 9 of Glitter Force and... it turns out (skimming through a few later episodes as well) that they've done multiple, all kinda pretty bad looking compared to the Toei stuff, CG dance animations for the episodes endings....

I don't remember, but I just assumed that the CG dances were the from the original series.

The first two are, but after that... not so much.

The Akito site updated today with an info blow out on the grand finale opening in Feb 2016.

http://www.geass.jp/akito/index.html

New trailer (warning SPOILERS for 1-4): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0LJUhHdU9o

One of the unit directors for the finale is Akihiko Yamashita.

He sounds like an interesting choice.

I also like that they're going all out, in various ways, for the final battle.

But, but...!

;__;

Don't listen to MetroidPrimeRib so quickly though! That's only one stance. :p It's possible to enjoy the original Code Geass and also like Akito the Exiled.

Oh, by the way...in terms of slightly less related works, you might enjoy Gun X Sword.

There is a anime that is at the back of my head but for the life of me I cant remember it.
Believe it involves aliens and a virus that turns people into them the MC controls his and uses it to fight them.. its not parasyte I know that, excuse the vague details I saw it probably 7+ years ago, really cool underrated anime that I don't see come up.

I know Akito is a little different, but would I still love it if I loved the crazy stuff in Code Geass just like Solf?

Edit: Saw JCG's post. I guess I'll wait and see.
You should way till the last movie is out anyway, but if you want crazy stuff you probably won't find it here.
This spin-off takes itself too serious and nobody is even nearly as entertaining as Lelouch.

B Gata H Kei 1-7 Fun little series so far. The MC is pretty hilarious.
I still find it odd that ANN called this a sexist anime at the time, when it's probably notable for at least acknowledging the existence of female sexual desire.

Love Live Movie in a nutshell:

The NYC porn is just great in this. It made me really miss the city... even the subways. lol
Gb2rDrpl.jpg

I don't want to compare the Love Live movie directly to the K-On! movie, even though the impulse is there and because they try to do the same thing - give the show a proper send off to its fans - but I'll say that even though the set ups are different, they both do a great job of providing a final glimpse into these character's lives and giving us basically mono no aware style maturation stories. The Love Live movie is definitely higher energy though, and leans into the "band musical" concept much more than K-On! does (which was mostly a more of a standard film that happened to have a few songs in it), and it's undeniably a more "fun" experience because of that.

Perhaps my only criticism would be that it's a very standard story. But in a week when the biggest film to come out is a remake of the first Star Wars film, you'd be hard pressed to actually complain that the Love Live movie doesn't do anything "new" since at least it's not a rehash of earlier Love Live story lines.

Oh, I suppose the other thing that I think is pretty bad is the random use of CG. It's a movie, just pay to animate the entire thing properly instead of inserting CG that stands out like a sore thumb. When you see entire crowds with the exact same walking animation, it just ruins the film and took me out of the experience entirely.

Edit: I ended up writing a longer review for my blog if anyone is interested:

tl;dr Love Live is good. Also lots of NYC porn.

not bad, but one of those movies where ten minutes after leaving the cinema I was like "Wait a second..."

This spin-off takes itself too serious and nobody is even nearly as entertaining as Lelouch.

I've previously said that new viewers should probably want until the Akito project is over.

I'd argue there are still some over-the-top events, but they are simply presented less frequently. For example, the third episode has a few crazy situations and it looks like the final chapter will also be rather hectic. There is indeed a more serious mood, relatively speaking, but there are a couple of goofy or tongue-in-cheek moments too. Curiously enough, that's where my Gun X Sword recommendation comes in, because that show does have a more similar tone to the Code Geass TV series (and shares a wide selection of the staff).

Entertainment value is inherently subjective, of course, so it's not really worth debating that at length.

The Adolescence of Utena

Not a fan of this one. It feels even more artificial then the first one, the
romance has no time to breathe (maybe it's my hetgoggles
that are at fault here) and the bizarro ending sequence, with peeps screaming out symbolism in the midst of driving scenes, felt more like parody than a genuine ending. And without the baggage of TV series behind me, I dare say I would have been left scratching my head trying to grasp just wtf is going on.

Shokugeki no Soma 17

When I saw this, all I could think of was that Sailor Moon episode where the bad guys opened up an ice cream shop, and wondered if this woman would turn around and start sucking the life force out of everyone who bought her store's kaarage.

I must say, I didn't expect Nikumi and that girl from the first episode to be relevant at all at this point in the story, let alone have some sort of love triangle going on with the ever oblivious Soma.

A long time ago there was a TV channel that showed anime along with J-dramas and K-dramas, and one Sunday evening they showed Utena the movie.

Needless to say, it was pretty hectic and I was completely lost on what was going on other than
making out driving away
. That was the first time I ever saw yuri in any form.

If it wasnt for the bad writing it might have been a good movie. First Order had some insanely hot guys though, best antagonist in character development, writing, storytelling, and looks in all 7 movies by several light years. I cant wait for more.

Best!

New best line in Glitter Force has to be "You weren't expecting me to understand Japanese!"

(Sixteen episodes down... please send help)

Kemonozume ep.1
Ok, Ducky, what the hell did I just watch? That was very, umm, different. .. The art style is definitely unique, the ambance is dark and dreary and we have a brother battle for fathers acceptance. The true swordsman guy is fissing his GF Rei, then has some crazy sex with a demon chick he just randomly meets. Who was that demon from earlier they were chasing after and how does that monkey have crazy ninja skills? This show is definitely weird.

Fushigi na Somera-chan 1-2

...the freaking crap did I just watch? What is that creature? Why did it murder her? Why is she juggling oden? Why are they doing auditions? Why are they doing a rap thing for the closing? Why do I want to watch more?

Damn, really sorry to hear that.
But still, a dvd release just isn't good enough for a show with this great of a use of contrasts and colours.

The Bluray release will probably happen next year. Most of the time if you see Sentai release a new show DVD only it means the Bluray release is happening later on.

Glitter Force 1

So the beginning segment of the dream didn't happen. Like they even spoiled the Princess power ups right off the get go. This also means she recognizes who her glitter partners are because she had "dreams" of them.

Also in the Library, they sped up the plot by having a book fly open and tell Emily what was going on, which happened down the line.

So they moved plot elements ahead of schedule which makes me wonder about what's down the line.

Some faithful dialogue and obvious American references like "I don't think we're in Texas anymore", and darkening during certain scenes for some reason.

April's voice is magic, Emily (Miyuki) somehow feels even more spastic, it almost feels uncomfortable because I understand her language.

Music changes par for course of the dub, and apparently the Dark world that they will be going to in Episode 20 is called The Shadow Realm

This show has been making me really crave, errrrrr, "Pizza".

They have actually cut out pretty much anything to do with Sunny's family Okonomiyaki restaurant, including an entire episode.

I don't remember when the Jexhius episode is, but I guess that's gone. "Pizza" indeed. :(

I think that's in the back-half of the series. The episodes dropped in this run are the one about Sunny's family, the one about the Manzai comedians, and the one about Peace's dad. Not quite up to it yet, but I'm pretty sure the last episode represented here was the 23rd episode of Smile.

-edit- Yeah, it's the one after the HappyRobo episode. I don't think there's so much Okonomiyaki in there that they can't pretend it's Pizza, but we'll see, I guess.

Oh right Kirb mentioned that;
dead dad = too sad.
If they are going all in on Pizza, there's no way the Jexhius episode would work.
