Look at this stupid cartoon that millennials love.

I hope it is good, but I doubt it will be. The original at least moved technology forward.

I'm retarded?
It will have huge viewers, prolly the biggest again, but it will leave no cultural impact just like the first besides the 3D thing I guess. Not going to the cinema for it this time tho.

Yea because everyone else is already doing performance capture underwater.
Water and performance capture have been around for a long time. putting them together.....nothing special. It is like combining cheese and meat, only not as tasty.

ManaByte ManaByte I am just giving the movie and you a hard time. I am sure it will be fun. But it is hilarious to me how much the younger people I work with love this film.

I couldn't care less about those kids, but damn that looks awesome.
I actually always wanted to see little Drakes running around tombs and dungeons with Nate and Elena in an Uncharted game. Just a fun family adventure like The Incredibles. I dont think thats what James Cameron is going for here, but adding kids to these popcorn summer blockbusters has worked. Spielberg made a career out of putting kids in these movies. Kids bring a different kind of energy to these movies and it can be a lot of fun.

Dont underestimate James Cameron. True Lies didnt move technology forward like Terminator 2, but it's still got some incredible action sequences.
I would never underestimate Cameron. The creator of Piranha 2 cannot be underestimated.

It'll be a sad day when Cameron leaves the movies. He's one of the few directors left whose movies still feel like big events. This will be huge.

Yeah, kinda pisses me off he's tied up for a over a decade doing scifi pocahontas. The story and aliens are pretty silly.

This thread is giving me serious " Will the Nintendo Switch be a success" vibes
inb4 obligatory „does anyone still care?“ comments

A lot of tears will be shed when this movies knocks down Avengers from the all time list.

Exactly. People are crazy if they don't think that:
A) at worst this will be critically acclaimed or at best an all-time classic and
B) Break box office records again

People love to jump on the "It's Pocahontas in space" bandwagon ever since someone pointed it out to them. It's one of the most tedious conversations with people.

Yeah I think it's upscaled, still better than the 1080p trailer. And yep nothing on the official channel 😕
Aren’t most cg movies rendered at 2k? Or was it 1080p? I remember reading some 4k reviews of animated movies and they said they are mastered at 2k then upscaled. A full cg movie like avatar would probably take a long time to render one frame at 4k. Didnt Pixar say that it takes 24 hours to render one frame? I imagine it would take longer to do it at 4k.

All he has to do is film in 8k resolution then downgrade it to 4k. Just go to floaty rock cartoon planet and film it there with the RED camera.

Tag, you're it.

Exactly, most recent movies are 2K then upscaled to 4K.
I think the master for Avatar is indeed 1080p, but a 4K upscaled version is coming this December for the release of the sequel!

Definitely looking forward to it. As cliche as the story of the first was, it was more transportive than maybe any other movie before it. A massive achievement.

I'm sure this will do the same.

Video games are universes ahead of movies when it comes to tech. Don't try to flex some motion picture tech shit when we've all seen the same CGI and whatnot at home on console or PC a decade ago. Hell, even the FF7 flicks from a long time ago run the moonwalk over this trailer.

James Cameron has done some good stuff over the years. He is a standard like Michael Mann for action and mood storytelling. But this is going to be a huge nothingburger.

Have fun kids.

I loved watching this last week before Dr Strange because someone in the cinema said out loud: "What? Another one?" as we sat there waiting for the 28th MCU movie to start.
lmao. I literally had the same conversation with a friend who saw the trailer in front of Doctor Strange and was worried that 4 more sequels of Avatar will begun to feel samey.

Would be nice to know if the story is also gonna not be good so I don't go in expecting something good and just actually enjoy the visuals.

Exactly. I went in to the movie blind and was immediately transported to this amazing world. 3D helped, but James Cameron is very underrated when it comes to creating atmosphere. So many movies fail to absorb the viewer despite expensive CGi and real world sets, but James Cameron makes you feel like you are there. There are movies with fancy 1 shot/no-cut sequences that actually pull me out of the experience because they linger on forever with camera moving around like a person, and yet James Cameron was able to get around the crutch of having to make a CG only movie and created a far better immersive experience. Just goes to show his talent as an excellent storyteller even if he isnt telling the most original stories. I still hate how Titanic is a cliched love story between a rich girl and a poor boy, but no one can deny its one of the best movies ever made thanks to James Cameron's storytelling. Despite the focus on Dicaprio and Kate Winslet, he still found ways to capture the memorable moments featuring that old couple embracing death, the violin players refusing to stop playing, the old WASPs types chilling and walking around a sinking ship as if nothing is going on. He doesnt get enough credit for the small things.

Some viewers like Ownage above just dont get why James Cameron movies are so special.

Yeah, he may be the best director alive at world building. Avatar was just SO immersive.

The spectacle in his movies is simply unmatched.
