I swear, they only want to release these movies during financial hardships. The last one came out after the financial collapse? It’s an escapism film and I recall a lot of people got depression knowing that they can never live in Avatar. Anyways looks like a great depression is oncoming since another Avatar is coming out.

The first movie already topped Avengers with the Chinese re-release. That's being re-released worldwide in September. Avengers will be #3 after this.

I didn’t say flop but underperform as the first Avatar was a “Wii” situation with the right device in the right time. Avatar was synonymous with 3D but now by the trailer it is just a sequel to a good CGI film. You talk like everything Cameron touches turn to gold. The dude last major project was producing Alita.

I like Cameron movies - but I wasn't really into this Avatar last time around.
The whole native/nature = good, and civiliation/industrialization = bad storytelling was too predictable to be honest... but then again, I'm way too harsh on a movie that's not out yet nor I've seen.
I'm sure it would be a great exciting ride, but not sure if I would have more memorable individual characters and more original storyline this time around.

What other CGI movies though?
I can't really think of any movies with a realistic art style (so not disney/dreamworks type stuff) that feature CGI as extensively as the original Avatar (and probably this sequel).
IMO one of the reasons the original avatar still looks so good is because of how much CGI there is, there are a ton of scenes which are 100% CGI and it makes it all look very consistent.
Marvel is the obvious contender but their constant need to include real actors and show their faces makes it all look extremely fake to me. Like their big 10 years in the making "Avenger Assemble" money shot in End Game was conceptually really exciting but it looks kinda bad IMO. It just looks like a bunch of actors on a green screen with obvious added CGI and tons of obvious cg compositing.
Can't wait for the 4K release of this.

This is the absolute dumbest comparison in the history of bad takes and makes everyone comparing Avatar to Pocahontas look like a mouth breather who never watched either movie. Did John Smith join Pocahontas' tribe and fight with them against his people? No. There's no comparison between the two. The movie is actually Lawrence of Arabia in space (and Dances With Wolves, which was Lawrence on the plains).
