Gawd, Obsidian, where did you go? Where is the Fallout New Vegas writing? Where is Pillars of Eternity writing? (Oh, that's right, you ran off Chris Avellone).

I know Sawyer is there, but its clear he has not been given free reign over their bigger projects.

He retired from AAA, pillars 2 buck broke him.

His rpg systems were pretty dumbed down as well.

Game has always looked mid, so the reviews aren't really surprising.
The opinions on the writing being so mixed is disappointing, that's usually the strongest part of Obsidian games (though admittedly I haven't played one of their games since New Vegas)

so the writing/story is crap

What's up with the visuals in this game?
I really thought this review was using Series S footage for some reason...until he said he played it on a PC with a 4080.
Why does everything look blurry and low detail? This looks like something the Series X should be able to run at like 1800p and locked 60fps, not something it reportedly struggles to run at 1080p 60fps.

The overabundance of female NPCs was a dead giveaway. Literally every gameplay clip has the MC talking to female NPCs. It's so blatant lol

As did animations and gunplay.

Art direction was bland as well.

But if people thought it was great, I can see how they are thinking the same about a game like Avowed.

Its a parody at this point. I knew the game was trash after the director was doing damage control before release. The characters look like shit and the promotion videos had modern-day Obsidian writing written all over it.

Maybe the Avowed lore is a world of mostly women and gay men. All the more reason to create a strapping stud of a straight male specimen to pique their curiosity and amaze them as you save the world and become their God. The credits roll and you get to see a huge bronze statue of your character, naked of course.

I got to play a bit. Went with a refund and then got the premium. Not bad if you ask me. I really wish I could have started this instead of Veilguard. If you bought Veilguard, you probably should get this.

Eh....the score ain't mid though. Some of the things said about the game are concerning, but 80 is a great score.
