And Starfield wasn't a very good game.Starfield peaked over 200k while in early access . . .
Even Phil can't bring himself to lie that hard. Most people play on the Xbox app, as I have said before as its the best game store and launcher out there.
Why would anyone waste £60 on a Steam game when it's basically free on Game pass?Good games on pc sell well and have high steam numbers even if they are on gamepass. This facade that games launching on GP cannibalise PC sales is wrong. Pc gamers give zero fucks about pc gp to the extend they'll sub to it just for one game.
It technically did. The games came to PlayStation. But I thought Gamepass actually INCREASED sales?

The price of a game is a non-issue if the game looks good. Why would anyone waste £60 on a Steam game when it's basically free on Game pass?
Translation: this game isn't worth owning. Why would anyone waste £60 on a Steam game when it's basically free on Game pass?
the ones that matter, sure16K CCU on what? All platforms?
the ones that matter, sure
Yep. Plus we already know Starfield and COD didn't lead to significant Game Pass growth. If those games couldn't move the needle, Avowed sure as shit isn't.Translation: this game isn't worth owning.
But if it doesnt look so good....a reasonable price can make a difference. The price of a game is a non-issue if the game looks good.
I'm surprised it got more CCU than Indiana Jones. Is anyone really all that surprised tho, honestly
Yeah I will eventually try it via Gamepass but for sure would not have bought this gameGame is clearly just 'OK' most people are on Game Pass
The amount of people desperate to play everything is tiny. If it looks good and it's on their preferred platform they will check it out. If it doesn't they go to something else worthy of their time, like Monster Hunter next week. But if it doesnt look so good....a reasonable price can make a difference.
On Steam you have a silly amount of smaller games, who doesnt look like yr typical shiny AAA slop, but people still somehow buying them. They just dont ask for AAA prices and are somehow more aware about their game as Obsidian/MS seems to be.The amount of people desperate to play everything is tiny. If it looks good and it's on their preferred platform they will check it out. If it doesn't they go to something else worthy of their time, like Monster Hunter next week.
Because PC Gamepass sucks balls. You get old versions of games, games with missing features, mods don't work that work on Steam versions, games that don't install correctly or eat your HD space and you have to reinstall windows to get it back, etc. etc. I've had Gamepass since the day it was offered, uninterrupted for years, and I refuse to use GP on PC because it's so terrible. Why would anyone waste £60 on a Steam game when it's basically free on Game pass?
Regardless of what people say - this is true. I'm likely one of those that would have FOMO'd in to purchasing this on Steam. Instead I paid a dollar for two weeks of Gamepass. Why would anyone waste £60 on a Steam game when it's basically free on Game pass?
Exactly. I know way too many people doing that. I am not doing that because I cannot see how this makes anything better for my beloved hobby....if a game is crap let it die, if its good support it...but so many others dont give a flying fuck and just go for the cheapest option.Instead I paid a dollar for two weeks of Gamepass.
Problem is you often can't know that beforehand.Exactly. I know way too many people doing that. Interesting reply, but my counter point - this looks like shit:
Nowadays you can make yrself a pretty good picture of what you will get...i can at least. Avowed released technically already a few days ago. This is just "late access" now for everyone who didnt want to pay a premium price on top of their premium price.Problem is you often can't know that beforehand.
I am so worried about this killing off the Pillars franchise.16K is obviously a disaster.
"But muh gamepass!"
Does anyone seriously think this game will attract any meaningful number of people to sub for gamepass and stay subbed? Because it won't.
And 16K means the overall number of sales will be pitiful, even more so than Veilguard's.
Avowed was probably cheaper than that game to make, but 100 people working for 6 years on Californian salaries + marketing won't be cheap either.
When 89K was peak of Veilguard, I said that game had no chance of recouping its budget. And guess what? Its team has been disbanded and indeed the game bombed.
Avowed is the same.
Now, as an Obsidian fan (I finished and loved KOTOR2, Alpha Protocol, New Vegas, South Park and liked Outer Worlds and Dungeon Siege 3) this does not make me particularly happy, but what annoys me more is how safe and anti-ambitious the game itself is. I mean New Vegas, released by Obsidian itself 15 years ago, was of the same genre, but was superior to Avowed in literally every single way except graphics.
And don't get me started on the KCD2 comparisons.
I think it's doing fine. It is already beating Indy peak CCU on Steam. It has a relatively modest budget. It may not attract a bunch of new people to Gamepass, but it will help keep people who are already subscribed16K is obviously a disaster.

Bad benchmark, considering Indy was a sales disaster too. There is a reason they never announced any sales numbers and only published the "player" number of people who tried it on GP.I think it's doing fine. It is already beating Indy peak CCU on Steam.
I agree with Indy point, but Avowed has like 1/3 the budgetBad benchmark, considering Indy was a sales disaster too. There is a reason they never announced any sales numbers and only published the "player" number of people who tried it on GP.
Now, Indy might have at least gotten few new subs for GP due to its good critical reception and word of mouth, but Avowed is unlikely to succeed at that.

From what I have seen it’s character writing, quest setup, storytelling, etc…. The stuff that used to be Obisidan’s strength is basically mid.Thats a shame. I hear the combat and visuals are quite good in the game. Its the writing that is the main drawback.
If western devs figure out good character design and writing, i think we'll have some great output in the next gen.

And this is god damn stupid since PoE2 was so good.Which would honestly be so ridiculous, because this was their attempt to make the franchise appeal to more "mainstream" audiences.
Much bigger budget than the previous 2 entries in the franchise (which both relied heavily on kickstarter), longer time in development, Microsoft backing, and it's not even yielding much better results:

I enjoyed this game a ton better vs the first (utterly bland and boring until DLC), but by being a direct sequel and main story being somewhat weak it killed any possible hype.
In the mean time, side content was amazing, combat , loot and other systems were much better. It even had a lot more voice acting. And now we get Avowed, shooting for “mild success”.
