Considering how well BG3 did, I think if they built on the first 2 POE games, a potential POE3 should have had the potential to be a real breakout hit for them. The market is there, they just need to hit the right notes and make a quality game within the genre.

Hopefully they still get the opportunity to do so because while I prefer the pathfinder universe, I still had a lot of fun with the first two POE games.
I think a lot of folks who made their past games great left Obsidian. Not even sure who remains from their last writing and design staff.

All time peak on Steam was eight minutes ago at 16,872. Reads like it'll climb, so around 20k might be possible if word of mouth is strong. Reviews are at 81% positive.

I ended up turning on my Xbox for the first time in over a year and getting a month of Gamepass off CDKeys for $10 to try this game out.

Does that count as Gamepass growth??

If it wasn’t on Gamepass I likely would have just dropped the $70 on Steam… not sure how that factors into the calculations. I’ve always thought the Gamepass model was stupid. But happy to take advantage when opportunities arise.

I agree with Indy point, but Avowed has like 1/3 the budget

Silent Hill 2 had a peak of less than 24000 on Steam and it still went on to sell 2mil copies in 3 months. If Avowed sells half of that, it will probably turn a profit. And that is not taking Gamepass into account. Which is how most people are playing

Steam is not the greatest measurement of success. It's just all we have at the moment
Probably fair to point out though that Silent Hill 2 launched on PS5 where a significant portion of the sales came from. If I’m not mitaken, the reported numbers from Europe were 78% PS5, 22% PC. If worldwide numbers are anywhere similar to that then the vast majority of those 2 million sales were on PlayStation.

Fair. All the more reason that Steam numbers can be misleading. KCD2 is still getting 150k peaks, 2 weeks after release, but they only passed 2mil in sales yesterday. Console sales are seemingly bad in comparison to PC

Steam playerbase was smaller 5 years ago, but Obsidian's last big game, The Outer Worlds, peaked at 20k. TOW was not on Gamepass, which is where most gamers are playing Avowed. It went on to sell over 5mil copies and be a massive success.

People just want this game to fail for political reasons. These numbers ain't bad for the budget of the game, imo

I’d say the numbers at least double over the weekend. So yeah, pretty good imo as well. I’m a fan of Obsidian for Grounded of all their games, but I hope they continue to be successful. To me they are the most prolific studio MS owns so I would just leave them alone and let them continue to cook regardless of any game’s indivdual results.

They make smaller games, but surely the most efficient studio Microsoft owns. Even if this game bombed, nothing would happen to them, imo. Grounded was a massive success and TOW2 is just around the corner

I did think that woman pictured at the end of the video was kind of weird how she was completely flat chested. I wasn't even sure honestly, it had me second guessing if maybe it wasn't supposed to be a woman. I wasn't sure. I thought for a bit maybe that's just how female character models look in armor for this game? I'm still not sure honestly but it kept constantly drawing my attention in the game as dumb as that is.

Prolific in what way? Moreso than Bethesda..?

I was so hyped for this game when I saw the reveal trailer. For the next 2 or 3 years I was looking forward to this game and followed every news story about it. Then a developer had to open his mouth and put his politics into things and I noped out hard. I came in this thread just to laugh and point out that these failures bring me much joy. There are many based developers who are practically begging for my money so why would I waste my time on fagoot-skyrim?

30k? It's more than it deserved and it's still considered underwhelming. But let's excuse those small numbers because it's on Gamepass :p. , and not because people don't give a damn about this game.

the internet is doing it's job bros

... this is the same observation I had with Starfield

1. previews = usually positive
2. early access= shills and xbox subsidized sites inflate the positive reception of the game thanks to sus reviews and free copies to those influencers

3.hype from fans/shills dies down

4. "Official" release date: With an already deflated hype, new reviews, commentary and video essays are more critical and reflect the sentiment of actual gamers. (your average consumer)

I think so far this has been proven to be an awful marketing strategy. (It doesn't help that the games are mid either.)

I took a puff on a doobie and walked into my kitchen to tell my cats knock knock jokes.

In all probability, I just performed higher than I expect this game to.

Avowed will be lucky to sell 100k. Silent Hill 2 is also on playstation.

If there is nothing else going on and it's 20 bucks I might get it.
Right Avowed is $70 and releasing between kcd2 and monster hunter. Most people won't give two shits about Avowed right now.
Even ubisoft was smart enough to move shadows away from those two.

It's clobbering Indiana Jones right of the gate. First few hours for Avowed already beat Indy's all-time high.

To me that looks like a waste of an IP license. You use a known IP to get reactive sales. If the Indiana Jones IP is that useless, it really should have just been a new IP and save the cost.

The string of flops these last 2-3 years is absolutely incredible.
What's genuinely incredible to me is that literally none of them came as a big surprise as far as I'm concerned.

Well, to elaborate a bit:
yeah, some of them performed even worse than I predicted, but I can't think of a single one among these recent failures that made me think "They may have a big hit on their hands with this one" when it was announced/showed off for the first time.

I swear it feels like the crack between publishers/developers and user base is steadily growing wider and wider as the time goes.

Should’ve kept it a console exclusive Philbo. Killed your own console with Day one releases for 16,000 people. Dude, PC audience isn’t going to fuck you. Let it go. Focus on your base.

Well it’stoo late for him, but i hope Sony learns from all these flops on steam.

I think a lot of first person view games shouldn’t be first person. I get there’s a janky 3rd person view for this game but that’s not the same.

Also the 3rd person games right now are almost all sword/melee. There’s a big opening for a normal 3rd person shooter. We haven’t had uncharted, tomb raider or max Payne in forever. It’ll probably make GTA blow up even bigger than it was already gonna blow up.

1. No advertising push (that i saw anyway)
2. Highly questionable trailers
3. Proudly woke. Devs antagonized Musk for no reason and set off all the grifters.
4. Regular reviewers said it’s mid grade.

Wow I can’t believe this isn’t setting the world on fire. Anyway I look forward to seeing Monster Hunter CCUs.
Its very very mid IMO, I think gameplay wise I had more fun with Dragon Age The Veilguard tbh
