There's nothing about this game that is "bare minimum".
There's very little that isn't.
It's technically unimpressive, structurally unsophisticated and unambitious, light on the amount of content, bare-boned in terms of interactivity/reactivity and dulcis in fundo on a personal level I find it aesthetically repulsive.
And I 'd challenge anyone to claim with a straight face that the writing makes up for it, either.

I'm sure that if they didn't use Unreal Engine 5 and have nice trees and rocks and things, the game would have done much worse and maybe only peaked at 15k. Another huge win for UE5, bringing the hype every time.

UE5 is not the problem. Infinity Nikki, a huge open world, has villages with NPCs and animals everywhere doing day-night routines. The game oozes life. it's the polar opposite of this slop.

Outer worlds apparently sold 5m lifetime, and had steam CCU of 20k.
The Outer Worlds thing is telling because it released on GP day and date with the official launch, was stuck on the Epic store for a year, and still launched to better numbers on Steam than Avowed. I think that game was the beginning of Obsidians brand damage and this one will be the nail that seals it.

100%, it's as bare minimum as it gets. They "cut the fat" which is just code for dumbed it down. After two reboots when they realized they were incapable of making a decent RPG anymore they just completely aped the story from Greedfall, and aped the combat from Mythforce. So they Cliffs Notes a story from another RPG and had Beamdog make the combat, wtf did Obsidian even do on that game?

This is not atypical for the kind of shit he posts. Face value CCU ain't great. We don't know what Xbox sales are. Don't know what GP engagement is. Fine if folks make some assumptions about that stuff, but there are logical assumptions and then there is bullshit hyperbole.

We don't know anything basically. 🤷‍♂️

If other stores or consoles had the balls to show CCU then we would have something to compare long term. As of now, it seems Indiana Jones got sales to warrant interest in a sequel and the director of Avowed says a sequel / DLC in the cards after they saw the numbers.

Vs how many thousand soy latte sipping hipsters for Avowed? Budgets skyrocketing somehow.

Elon Musk is right, one passionate nerd in the hand is worth a thousand avg nobodies in the wild.

Based on current year figures?
I just know that I haven't bought anything on Xbox this generation and going by sales lists it's rare to ever see an Xbox game on a top list and platform percentages splits are single digit now.
But maybe MTX are selling idk.
Tapping into a 75 million and 150 million userbase with no GP cannibalism shouldn't end badly. That's an assumption for sure but a fairly safe one I think.

You're only focusing on splits in the UK, their strongest market is still the US. You're still looking at billions in royalties and MTX.

They literally never said that. The director said this:

"Now that we've built this wonderful world, and also built this team strength and muscle memory around the content and gameplay in this world, I'd love to see us do more with it," she said.
So, literally nothing "in the cards", she's just hoping that it is.

I think Avowed was 11,000

Elon Musk is right

it was a question, you dummy. Did you play the game, right? So... is that a thing or was it fake news?
It wasn't targeted at you specifically. Yes, the majority of the NPCs are static in the game. The "no fish" thing is fake news though, it's funny how many parrot that. But it is true there aren't a lot of fish, but also don't really care either way about the fish myself. I don't think it would really enhance my experience with the game to have more fish in the water. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

If it does not financially fail, will you examine why and try something different next time?
Of course not, it cost me nothing to wish for its failure, so loss of investment for me would be $0 in that scenario.

Same cannot be said for publishers if their games fail though.

The forced hatred towards this game is rough. The gameplay looks pretty solid and the graphics actually look pretty great. I was a naysayers at first, but the most recent footage looks great. The comparison to Skyrim is weird, considering that it's not competing with it and most other games also lack the physics that Skyrim has. Everyone is reaching pretty hard for this one.

Conveniently ignored constantly.

It's easy to hate something you don't understand. In this case, people heard you can change your gender to them/they. From there it was down hill. Other than that it doesn't appear to force an agenda, it just gave you an option.
It's easy to hate... forced hatred
,🤔.

You are right; people who "hate" this game are not being forced to. No one is bending over backward to find something to "hate", something to criticize

And I don't know if you are out of the loop but the conversation around the game (after the official launch) has been overwhelmingly focused on they quality of the game, its falirue to reach mass market success and the spin/damage control by the media.

Obviously you have not invested money into it but you have invested enough time and emotion to respond. If this game finds financial success it needs to, to not be considered a failure, will you continue fighting games that have found an audience? Or, will you simply ignore them and play the games you want to play?

I tried playing Avowed this weekend. So far, it has not grabbed me so I doubt I will continue. However, why would I care if others enjoy it?

I think you're projecting, I'm not nearly as emotionally invested as you appear to be in wanting to silence me. I have a thought in my head, "hope it fails", and then I move on. I don't dwell on that thought for hours. Honestly it doesn't bother me that much if they find an audience, there are plenty of games out there that have an audience of which I am not part of, including all RTS games, 90% of FPS, etc, etc. so what's another game added to that huge pile.

I'm not trying to silence you and it wasn't meant to be an attack. I am just curious why people want things to fail because it is not "their thing."

I think the dev team of AssCreed Shadows is around 2,000 people or something insane like that

It's been 13 years and Skyrim is still going strong. This is the beating heart of a champion

This is the 2016 Special Edition of the game btw, the OG 2011 release has been delisted from Steam

Okay but how long will that keep going? I don't think there is any growth potential there at all. But reaching PlayStation and Nintendo gamers is instant growth like never before and they're a big publisher with many studios. 30m on Xbox, 75m on PS5, 150+m on Nintendo, no idea how big Steam is but it's big. How can that end badly when they start going day 1 everywhere so everyone have access to their games when the hype is peaking?

I mean ultimately, they should have bowed out when they had the chance to not buy ABK. CMA did them a massive favor and they could have walked away.

They could have focused on buying studios that make games that would have thrived as exclusive titles.

They also could have waited things out and made CoD console exclusive when they had the chance after the 10 year period and looked to see if that sold more units. At least then they could have tried to leverage Sony for lower royalties when the time comes to go 3rd party.

Once word hits the casuals we're going to see even more rapid decline in xbox sales. Xbox isn't selling well, but it can get a lot worse.

Most claim the combat is fun so I will eventually get it on PC down the road when it is on sale. Hopefully the narrative is at least somewhat entertaining. That used to be the strength of Obsidian.

More like Avowed BOTTOMS at 16k players amirite fellas

actually i have 0 fellas in this thread as i am hate watching this train wreck of a game, the fkn regression from the outer worlds is downright embarrassing, cemented slop

but don't take this as actual hate after all i did not spend $70 so i did not buy cruelty 🤷‍♂️ (reference to that bioware guy)

I don't really understand the negative vibe on this game at all. It's better than Dragon Age (and Starfield), may have the best combat I've seen in a game like this, it's very satisfying even being a warrior. I think the player count may grow over time, I think people trash it without playing it or only playing an hour, I think it's pretty good once you get going.
