Avowed launched to “Very Positive” reviews on Steam

Selective outrage is fun

This thread proves we got to yall, lol.

Avowed is fine, it's just an Xbox game that didn't have a Playstation release date.

Want to avoid this in the future, just announce the port before launch.

I'm going to buy it, play it for an hour and return it, just so I can give a negative review.

Or at least that is what I should do.

I love this game and I havnt even played it yet. Clearly another win for Xbox and everyone cant seem to get enough. Since last week I just see loads of new threads about the game, it warms my heart that 1 thread is not enough many of you and feel compelled to make multiple new threads about it 😍. Respect to all of you Xbox mandem 💪🟢.

Then I stand corrected. I could have sworn it launched to mixed reviews following the early access.

It fell off quite sharply after the premium early the initial early access period when it was literally just influencers/employees and hardcore fans attempting to convince everyone the game was something it wasn't.

Xbox living rent free in tons of heads. Now if they only knew how to charge for rent.

The Steam rating doesn't give me anything really.
It's the same as Metacritic user scores. A lot of bombing up or down. People giving fake reviews to sway it in one direction or the other. People giving it a review after playing for 10% of the time it takes to finish the game.

I've played it myself and it's a 6 out of 10. The dialogue put me to sleep.

Man, they're pulling out all the astroturfing mental gymnastics.
"Unbelievable" came to mind when reading that.
Absolutely pathetic.

It just fell fast that's why you have the Mandela Effect.
Here's where they are now:

It's also interesting remembering the discourse around this game when it peaked at 330K CCU, and comparing that to 89K for Veilguard, 12K for Indy, and thus far 17K for Avowed.

Ehh I think for most games, unless they're blatantly broken or getting review bombed for some reason, they're going to get generally high scores from the people who bought it day 1 (or spent $90 to play it a few days early).

I'm not surprised by the reviews. the game is not entirely trash. I'm having fun with it but it's mid IMO. I can't and won't speak for everyone.

How is it "rent free" on a gaming forum.

That discusses gaming companies.

And part of the largest company in the world. Who is always in your face with interviews, PR, marketing, etc..?
So you don't see people bringing up Xbox in non-Xbox threads? Just earlier I saw your boy Killjoy-NL Killjoy-NL bringing up "team green" out of nowhere, because he didn't like a negative light being casted on Sony management.

Its too early. These steam reviews doesnt make much sense shortly after release....but after a while and a bigger number of reviewers...you get a pretty solid orientation where the game stands. Thats usually my take of it.

This happens in all threads for all games. Even you yourself and I myself are guilty of this shit sometimes.

Guess which one was a commercial succes?

I'll take a fun game over a game's profit or revenue.

Always cracks me up when the biggest bullhorn users on this site are guilty of the shit they cry about! 🤓

In any event, Steam reviews or otherwise, what I played of it was not too bad. Good enough to give it a full run!

Played a few hours of it earlier. It seemed fine I guess, pretty much the epitome of a 7/10. I think they made a big mistake releasing it this month though. I dont think many people are gonna be compelled to make time for it when a lot of the people who might have been interested havent finished KCD2 yet, then theres Yakuza coming soon and Monster Hunter not too far behind.

positively mediocre, pretty game tho - at least it has that

jokes aside, im enjoying it so far

Toxic positivity. Praising slop like this while gaslighting all the critics as system warriors is exactly why Western industry ended up where it is now.
That's exactly what came to mind when I saw that dude on the first page calling posters pathetic because they didn't agree with the "very positive" rating. Toxic positivity always comes off desperate and pathetic. I'll take someone who's potentially overcritical over that any day.

Steam only allows for recommend or not recommend. Not a very complex system. So many games are 6/10 and barely recommend. I tend to review most games I play on steam and most fall squarely in the 6 to 7/10 range and I barely recommend them and note to buy on sale. I recently switched my review of Starfield to recommend now that it has been patched up and I enjoyed the DLC. But again, just barely recommend, and only on sale. Seeing positive for this game doesn't tell me much this early on.

The game is not even funny or offensive-level bad. It's just painfully grey and mediocre. The worst kind of slop considering that we're talking about the creative medium. It's an innoffensive slog and threads about it are x100 more interesting than the game itself. Same was with Hellblade 2 and to a lesser extent Starfield (at least SF aesthetics was striking and shooting was kinda fun).

I mean, pretty much any title that's not broken or a terrible port ends up positive on steam from what i can tell.
I think it's alright so far.
