Awesome Games Done Quick 2015: Speedrunning For Charity - January 4th - 10th

And there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't agree with what the charity is doing then you don't have to donate. But people calling it a scam are taking it to another level just because they're ignorant with how things work.

There' still SGDQ and they're doing MSF still so there's that.

Or other marathons that have other charities, or are just for fun and no charity at all.

Where the bonus stream at? And do they have a schedule up for it yet? I'm particularly interested in seeing the glitched Melee run

The bonus stream is at the main channel http://www.twitch.tv/gamesdonequick
There's no actual schedule because things are made on the fly. You can expect a very rough list at best.

Bonus stream is always fun to see. Man it kinda sucks working all week long and not catching any of this live :( Doesn't feel the same watching VoDs.

Okay, I can understand not agreeing with the charity that is picked, or with the whole aspect of PCF being heavily involved in the organization of AGDQ (to the point of the main organizer of the event being contracted by them).
But neither the PCF nor Uyama have ever lied about it, or withholding any information in regards to that, so I don't see it as that much of a problem.

I mean, it's not like PCF 'bought' Uyama and enlisted him to do AGDQ for them. From what I understand, PCF contracted Uyama after several successful events. And I don't see that really as a problem, either. He's the representative and main organizer of an event that, every year, brings them hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would contract somebody like that as well if I was in the PCF's shoes.

Oh, I agree in that I see no reason to believe anything illicit or secret has occurred and I think anyone making that kind of accusation had better have some strong evidence to back them up. I see no issue with Mike or others getting paid, either. I think my first concern stems in many ways from my second concern.

100% agreed.

Thanks to all those involved in this ADGQ charity livestream. I have a newfound appreciation of the speedrunning community and have immensely enjoy the commentary on speedruns. From now on I have an active interest in the Zelda OoT speedruns, alongside other games. I loved the 3 player in the OoT speedrun tin which each player's stream was displayed side by side. It highlighted the varied number of strategies to clearing room or approaching exploits in the map, and how this impacted the time versus the other players. Alongside it, it had fantastic commentary that explained the strategies and their implications to newcomers.

Hey, for what it's worth, I personally am not a big fan of PCF as charity either, particularly because it's solely located in the US. I prefer international charities such as MSF, or those that specifically fund research only.

That's why I only directly donated 5 bucks (I intended to not donate at all, but I felt that itch :p), and only got stuff from the indirect sources (buying shirts and the humble bundle).

All I can add to this conversation is this: Educate yourselves before giving money to organizations/charites.

Same goes for almost anything and everything.

Yeah the US-centric charity thing is something they should actually take concern in, but I guess that's why it's a good thing SGDQ raises money for MSF. People can skip on AGDQ and donate towards SGDQ if they want to help support whatever the runners are raising money for.

Right. To be honest, I've had my faith shaken so much by charities not being what they were supposed to be that I will never give money to a charity again unless I had a very deep knowledge about what they do. Been let down too many times.

If it's true that this organization pays the organizers, then I wouldn't expect to see a change. The Doctors Without Borders marathon is way better, just because you don' t have to deal with cringe-worthy cancer comments. (Stuff like "Die, Cancer! You don't belong in this world!"

Although, Cringe is part of the fun of these marathons. Tomba 2 was the highlight of the marathon last year.

Agreed, you donate to something it's your own responsibility.

These complaints remind me of the complaints regarding the Ice Bucket Challenge, which were not very well thought through.

edit: bonus stream when

Mundungu tweeted that the bonus stream was going to start 30 minutes late so it should be starting in like... 5-10 minutes.

I just noticed this was a October stream I was watching. It is still fantastic, and has me hooked.

I'm like legit sad this is over. In the past it sucked because yeah no stream less to do. But seeing people leave and seeing runners sad about leaving their friends makes me sad.

I can already tell how much faster Melee is over Smash U. Bit surprising really, I don't remember it being that fast but I haven't played Melee for a decade.

So what do people recommend watching / what are the highlights from this year's AGDQ?

Where's the best place to find the archives listed by game?

What's with B O Y S meme I keep seeing in chat? That and "ayy lmao" make me feel old at 24.

Ayy lmao just refers to a weird dancing alien youtube video with the title "Ayy lmao." It's typically used when people see grey aliens or similar weird things. I don't know about the boys thing though.

there might eventually be a picture posted of games people signed up to run during bonus stream

this honestly might not last long. the emphasis on a bonus stream has gone down big time as the work to run the marathon has increased.

I felt the same way when I quit WoW. And now it's been so long that most of the people I played with have quit too or have started to take me off their friends list. It sucks =/

When I left Ragnarok Online similar thing happened to me as well. I just have two people left from those days and they've been my best friends for the last 6-7 years now. I do miss many of the people I used to talk to though.
