Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Yeah, what's the deal with no humble bundle? They even had them as a sponsor on the stream a few days ago.

Yea, I think the lack of a Humble Bundle is the main cause here.

It's strange there isn't one, I was looking for it a few days ago, but couldn't find it, and was surprised to learn it didn't exist this time around.

This reminds me of Crysis:

Stepmania is a showcase.

It will probably go showing off 16ths at slower BPM and finally reaching the higher levels of play and speed. I'm a bit nervous for it since it's keyboard.

You can't speedrun dance games. The entire idea is an auto scroll "level" lol. If this goes well hopefully we can get pad play. I think an ITG showcase would quite literally blow some minds.

To put those times into context, 2 years ago, Sinister took on Tyson and lost at about 34 minutes.

He then took off the blindfold to a standing ovation.

And finished the fight with ease and his eyes.

Now? Just smash the whole thing in less time, the whole thing, blindfolded.

For those interested here is a 35 mins talk by Sinister1 where he explains the story behind his blindfolded runs and how he managed to reach the point where he can beat the game with a perfect 14-0 record.
http://www.twitch.tv/sinisterwon/v/30472789 (talk starts at 31m30s, first part is his first 14-0 blindfolded run)

Well, don't forget guys that the final game usually draws a very big final push and this year it's a Final Fantasy game that iirc is going for almost 5 hours? (Not able to look at the schedule atm, at work). They'll probably hit 1 million but they won't cross AGDQ 2015's number at the rate they're going.

SGDQ was 1.5 million so that's still a way to go.

It almost always end on a long square JRPG.

This year it's a 3.5 hour long FFIV run.

How can I get one of the glowing blue hats the audience keeps knocking off of each other's heads

While true, the drama surrounding it bleeds into almost every stream I watch (even chill, laid-back ones aren't exempt) for like the month leading up to and after the event. People can't stand watching something they like go "mainstream"

I don't think that anyone would complain about selling out by getting more dev commentary and prizes to drive more donations. The way they ban/limit runners for various reasons is the only thing I've seen complained about a lot. Well and the choice of charity, but since they made a deal with them it's not like they can just pull out.

Dismissing the criticisms as "people mad at the event going mainstream" is a disservice to legitimate things people may be frustrated about. This isn't something I want to shit up this thread anymore with though.

that's twitch. think of it as high speed youtube comments.

None of it is valid, all of it is kids/child-like adults not understanding a damn thing about how things work in the real world--and a lot of it originates on the 4chan speed run thread (i.e. slow-speed twitch comments.) I don't doubt there's drama and growing pains within the organization and even big mistakes made, but adults work through these things and make improvements. And as a bystander, it's basically none of my business. Teens/idiots think you need to totally throw out everything and try to rebuild everything in a "pure" way or that there's a grand conspiracy out to pull the wool over everyone's eyes. They also love criticizing from the tender confines of the basement where they have to deal with zero distractions and get to look at problems in a vacuum.

Yeah, I know "that's twitch chat" and whatever. But it just sucks that it bleeds into the low-key, well-moderated chats as well. That is what I'm saying. Of course it doesn't matter what they say, but they still cause drama and headaches going into people's chats and bitching and bringing down the mood.

I would love for AGDQ to really take off in a big way. I agree that there's so much more that could be done, and I definitely wouldn't mind/don't mind if someone did or would get paid to have better PR so it can draw in a bigger crowd/better prizes/more devs skype in/etc.

I feel like you might have taken what I said a bit too personally, because I definitely didn't mean legitimate criticisms can't be made, and I think that's pretty clear with my posts. If not, I apologize.

How exactly do you want it to be bigger?
I mean, it's Thursday and almost 500,000 dollars have been raised for charity.

It took 3-400 of us to raise 30,000 dollars for our local children's hospital via Child's Play this year. GDQ is massive by comparison.

Didn't know StepMania had a story mode Kappa.

"Starting off with a pretty easy file"

I guess I'll continue to wipe the tears off my vita while I continue to fail at a good chunk of Extreme songs on Project Diva f 2nd.

Are the button sequences in this game random, or is this a lot of memorization?

It's no memorization and these button sequences aren't random. You can choose to make the position of a single key hit random between the four options if you want to and the player would probably do just as well as they do normally.

I mean... I said it right in my post? It would be cool to see more dev commentary, draw a bigger crowd so more people get exposed to speedrunning, and of course raise more money (and that definitely isn't to say they haven't raised "enough." They've raised an incredible amount of money). I don't get why thinking about these things is somehow criticizing the event as it is.

Ahh I see, they just explained it a little more as well. Very impressive stuff.
