Edit: damn you Arjen Robben, I thought I was replying right under so I didn't quote...

Mario Vargas Llosa: Peruvian-Spanish Nobel Prize writer.
Carlos Fuentes: Known as one of the best-known living novelists and essayists in the Spanish-speaking world.
Juan Carlos Onetti: Uruguayan novelist.
Emir Rodríguez Monegal: Known as one of the most influential Latin American literary critics of the 20th century.

EDIT: Oh and here is one for the masses:

It's sad that when this was taken (I'm guessing early 80's) these guys were all seen as equals. Clearly one hasn't lived up to potential.

Who's the dude on the right? ARGH.

BTW Anyone surprised with just how many people Salvador Dali is photographed with? Consistently blows me away.

Oh, and the picture with the black dude sitting down and the bearded white guy standing is "Old Spice Guy (Isaiah Mustafa) and The Most Interesting Man in the World (Jonathan Goldsmith)". You're welcome :)

I am aware of the works of Pablo Neruda.

I hace to say, sorry for saying it, but it troubles my mind that some gaffers don't know general culture, wow.

Most of the pictures here are of American celebrities. Regardless of how popular these celebrities are, a lot of gaffers live very diverse lives in very different countries. There is no such thing as general culture and I think its arrogant to assume that some posters have to know about some of the people in these pictures.

Pop culture knowledge is almost always culturally relative. Which is why everyone should post names.

What are you referencing between this post and your previous one?

Yup.

And with respect to authors in particular, why should people recognize their faces?

This photo is absolutely incredible. Pretty much most of the scientific revolution all in one picture.
