This will be an interesting one, it was CPU starved in Act 3 and that's one of the least improved things on the pro.

Are you?

Performance testing will be interesting, we will see how much Pro cpu compares with that small clock bump.
I'm not kidding. In act 3, when you get to that one town, the performance absolutely tanks on most CPUs. Gamers Nexus has used it as a benchmark for quite a while, and it is usually telling. Like, no CPU gets out of that unscathed. Yes, this may very well be an artifact of the custom engine Larian uses, but I don't see how Pro having a marginally better CPU will improve things much. Maybe it'll run at a higher resolution, but as far as the framerate goes, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Not that it matters really that much, other than aesthetically, it's fundamentally still a turn-based game after all. But, I wouldn't expect a 60fps mode.

I like a good JRPG

I presume you enjoyed BG3?
What are you asking exactly?
It's better than most JRPGs I could think of (especially combat-wise) but it's not a JRPG.
It's a lot more focused on a highly interactable scenario, having multiple choices and branching narrative depending on your actions.

The video they linked to you is a solid explanation of the core mechanics.

Yep, game is 60fps on PS5 until act 3, then it goes to this:

They didn't show performance mode fps in patch video but it was hard cpu limited the same as quality mode in launch version.

CPU’s are less relevant these days, they don’t even benchmark framerates off CPU’s anymore, these days it’s all about the GPU.

When low end cpu hard fucks framerate well below 60fps... you tell me that cpu isn't important.

There are very few games with tested and proven cpu limited performance on consoles and BG3 is one of them. Yep, GPU is the most important thing most of the time but decent CPU is also needed.

There's the small CPU improvement plus increased bandwidth so it could be a bit better, but we're obviously not going from barely 30 to 60 in the stress areas. I agree that it doesn't matter that much, my 11600 was also dropping in the mid 30s at launch and it didn't stop me from enjoying the game. In most of the game, even in act 3, performance was fine other than those specific streets. I'd be happy not having to deal with FSR2 on PS5 when I eventually douple dip.

Here look at this.
Not a CPU in sight and they fall as far as 2FPS.
Those days you speak of are gone.

How to know if I’d like it? What other games is it similar to?
It's not a JRPG. What you do actually matters in the story, and you can end up with wildly different outcomes depending on your choices. Some of the seemingly trivial things you have done may have serious repercussions much later on. When it comes to combat, think X-com. As a simplified explanation, it's turn-based, but also tactical. So it's not only matching $ELEMENT that's harmful to $ENEMY, but also your positioning and movement in the battlefield. Using the environment to your advantage. Doing all kinds of crazy shit, like placing some grease on the ground, and shoving your enemies to their death. You can get so creative with it.

Have you ever played D&D? It's like that, with a very good DM. You can be a saint or a complete dick. You can talk/deceive your way out of conflicts, or go all full Rambo. You can try some $REALLY_STUPID_SHIT and the DM will go, "ok, roll for that". And it may work. Or it may not. And often the failure will be the more amusing outcome. It's a role playing game, and you get to pick that role. Which you don't get to do with JRPGs. Whether that appeals to you, I cannot tell.

The image shows it goes from 2FPS to 116FPS based on the GPU used.
Isn't this how GPU benchmarks go? Use a high-end CPU as to not bottleneck the game, test GPUs. You'd need a CPU benchmark where all CPUs are at least above 60 to prove your point and even then it won't be true for all games, such as BG3.
