Baldur's Gate III |OT| Three times as awesome

Why at such a high price point he obviously my question

Because that's the price of the game.

Some developers don't believe in charging less for early access. People can decide if they want to play an early version now and throughout the final stages of development or they can decide not to and wait for the finished product.

They are under no obligation to charge less for it just because it is early access. Would it be nice? Yes. Do they need to? No.

Yikes. Discussion tapered off for a long time. Please can fans of Divinity Original Sin 2 tell me if this game feels noticeably different.

Just done playing three-four hours in a row.
It's fucking great so far and I'm constantly impressed at the quality and level of production value.
There's obviously occasional junk that needs some polishing, but god if this wasn't a strong first impression.
Also, fuck Ars Technica.

It doesn't.
It feels better and there are striking differences in some areas (art, UI, mechanics and rulest, etc) but it doesn't feel like a whole different genre if that's what you are looking for.

The combat is absolutely different.

Movement pool is separate from the action pool, one action per turn + one bonus action.

Played for about an hour and while yes it has some of Larian's signature written on it, it's very much clear this is a detour from the divinity games.

I'm seeing a strong overall reaction from Steam reviews, it looks like Larian haven't got on the bad side of BG fans, so that's a good sign, also.

Just tried 45 minutes or so of it and it seems really well made. Still haven't done enough combat to to tell whether or not I like it more than D:OS2, but it's promising thus far.

Been playing it for about an hour. Having lots of fun so far and the turn-based combat is :messenger_fire:. No idea why people would prefer the absolutely broken RT system we have in BG2 instead - as much as I love that game.

Just finished Divinity 2 the other day. Looks nice, but think I will probably wait for it to be out of EA.

Oh yea, really digging this! Graphics, writing, voice acting, etc. It's hitting all the right notes for me. Lots of bugs in cutscenes and such, but that's to be expected in EA, I feel.

Sorry for the double.

I want to ask if any encounter with enemies that can teleport nilly willy all over the battlefield like D:OS2?

And do the game writing full of doom and gloom like Original Sin series?

A western game with attractive character design options in 2020?!

Finished the first area and reached level 2. Nice graphics, combat feels good, lots of skill checks and dungeon master narration. Thumbs up.

Oh shit that looks pretty good. Almost want to get it just for the character creator.

Animations and sound effects needs a lot of work, but i'm loving the game so far, went with wizard for my first playthrough.

Hmmm.

I'll definitely pick it up at some point but it looks a whole lot more like Divinity than BG, which was my worry.

Full party acquired and arrived at the first town. It's rough around the edges, sure, but very playable, and I'll definitely be continuing.

5E, eh, feels inferior to D:OS2's systems, but this is low level still of course, and it gets the job done fine.

Ah it's 5E huh? I guess I can swing it. Not a big fan of these latest rulesets though. I guess I am just too used to Baldur's Gate / Infinity Engine games.

Big thing to remember about 5e: it's meant to be really approachable, so it's...uh...dumbed down compared to what came before it. Character level 1 is like a tutorial period, as is level 2. Level 3 is when you start getting your fun toys and level 5 is when you're what most people would actually consider a full character. I hope BG3 doesn't dwell on level 1 and 2 too long, otherwise people are going to get the wrong idea.

I think this system vs divinity's promotes party synergy more than anything.

In divinity you can chain multiple actions during a single characters turn and create some insane combos, whereas in this those multiple actions need to be spread out across multiple characters in your party and multiple turns to achieve the same effect.

Turn order matters a lot more in this than it does in divinity.

Damn, I barely miss the minimum requirements; I could still buy it and see how it runs, and refund if I need to... but I don't have 150Go available either at the moment.

Also, I see the OP still only mentions the classes that "will be available during Baldur's Gate 3 early access". Do we have more info now? Barbarian? Monk? Bard? Anything but the most basic classes?
(And are Gythyanki playable?)

The download is 60-something GB and the install about 80-odd GB if that helps (GOG version).

Would you guys recommend starting with a custom character or a origin character? I read the origin ones have a more fleshed out overall story.

4 party members feel very limiting. I really wish they went with 5 so you could go outside the classic trope of Fighter/Mage/Cleric/Wiz for optimal builds.

This will look amazing on ultrawide. Really wanted to get it just to try out the character creation. Tough decision with budget needed Cyberpunk
