Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

I'd like to think I'm pretty open minded. While I do have my concerns about this game, I am happy they are trying to take platforming in a new direction. An old school Banjo would be appealing to me as well, but it would probably get old pretty quickly.

In other words, I can't wait to see more.

Looks boring and uninspired.

DO NOT WANT

If you think this game is uninspired, you must have your bar set really high for games in general...

I am so looking forward to Killzone, I actually like KZ1 except for the technical issues.

I haven't once seen Banjo jump or Kazooie glide.

He also jumped in a car.

Oh, and I saw Kazooie gliding. She was in a glider. Perhaps you missed it.

I'm glad a simple concept like "hold A to glide" was replaced by a machine.

Just admit that it is a radical direction for the series, with hardly anything in common with the first two, gameplay-wise.

Holy shit, this looks amazing! I also like the Super Mario sprite, imagine a giant Mega Man sprite or a spaceship with a detachable submarine. I can build my dream Banjo-Flyer-3000 with rocket booster while collection music notes, count me in!

I'm not going to admit a lie made up by traditionalists who don't even remember the old games.

I know that this is merely one opinion, but for those saying that the game is not supposed to be a platformer or wasn't ever considered to be anywhere near the quality of Mario 64 -- here's an excerpt from the Nintendo pothead himself:

It's quite simple: Banjo-Kazooie features the best graphics we've seen on the console, it one-ups Mario 64 in terms of gameplay, it sounds astounding and it may just be the most clever title we've ever played. This is not only worthy of a perfect score, but it's possibly the best game for Nintendo 64 and the greatest platform game ever made. If you own a Nintendo 64 and don't buy this game right now then you are depriving yourself of the very best the console has to offer. At this point in time, we're not sure if Super Mario 64 2 can outdo Banjo-Kazooie. Well done, Rare.

EDIT: Just saw the last gif. Damn what a sigh of relief. That's all I needed to see. Hyped back up again.

That's true, but it makes the game more open for exploring and finding the right platforms you need to reach when navigating through the worlds. I find it more appealing than a linear obstacle course.

Edit: it also introduces the puzzle element of figuring out what kind of a vehicle you need to build. Although you can just skip that with the pre-made vehicles.

Gotta agree don't want some crappy linear obstacle course because THEN the addition of the vehicles would seem retarded as we would be limiting the hell out of them.

Yea there is also a puzzle mechanic to it because you gotta decide what you need to build to make things happen. I can imagine seeing a good distance that I can't reach by traditional means and I have to build something that can make the distance, but if Rare really wanted to get creative they could set something up where nothing mechanical (like a propellor) would properly function past a certain point so then you would need some sort of backup plan by making sure your vehicle can glide the rest of the distance.

If this game was a new IP wasn't a console exclusive and was made by EA and appeared on PS3/360/PC, it wouldn't get a 1/10th of the defence it's getting now.
It also wouldn't get 1/100th of the hate.

:lol

I think that I should design a pogo stick with rockets and 6 giant springs to get on top of that box, because that's the natural evolution of jumping.

Why does Kazooie need a glider to glide? She could glide just fine using her wings.

Absolutely true. I wouldn't be paying any attention to it.

I don't doubt that there's something amazing happening in this GIF... but... what about it is so amazing? Why does a part of the plane falling off blow your mind?

Probably the fact that you designed and built it yourself.

eh, at first i thought "wat" when i saw the trailer, but after watching it a few more times and thinking about the concept of the game. It's actually pretty cool, and I am going to keep an open mind about it. It's refreshing, that's for sure. Just gotta wait and see myself when I play it. I am just worried about the building being too tedious...if it isn't, then shit yea, im in.

The troll meter in this thread has already been blown.

As a N64 Banjo fan , I cant wait for this game. Rare will not dissapoint, the original banjo team is doing this so why is everyone scared/angry/dissapointed? I welcome a new style of hybrid platforming to the genre. Hopefully this blows Mario galaxy out of the water in terms of AWE come launch day.

IF,IF,IF, Post of thread so far!

How much crap can be posted in one tread.

No, but to get up to the top of a giant mountain with no smaller ledges it would be. Heck, you could just fly like in the previous games.

Oh, and Kazooie's wings can't be popped off and replaced by fins or propellers.

That's a good thing in my opinion. We've been there, done that twice already.

You can say the same thing about Galaxy compared to SM64 and Sunshine.
You're right, Galaxy revisited some of the more direct gameplay of the 2D Marios while retaining the 3D gameplay.

honestly I don't see why the comparison is so hard to comprehend

Because it's an obvious evolution of the BK gameplay, but those people are acting as though it's totally unrelated.

Because it is unrelated. What Mario did with Galaxy shows how you can take the game and show it in a positive light, while keep the core mechanics of the game intact and enhance it with gravity.

This abomination takes building vehicles and slaps on Banjo Kazooie. Like WTF does a redneck Bear know about making vechiles, and why does a witchdoctor have car parts scattered across his lawn? Is he on Welfare and is representing?

The gameplay is no longer there, because the game isn't even the same genre for christ sake. No wonder Nintendo dropped Rareware.

...So, you have absolutely no knowledge of this game whatsoever.

Yea. It seems like this thread is full of people who are nostalgic for Banjo Kazooie and don't want to admit that they're never going to get another experience like it.

The core gameplay mechanics of Galaxy are firmly tied with '64 and Sunshine...

Umm.. I wouldn't say so myself. There's no real control over the camera and it doesn't feel like you need to use all of the moves enough. But that's more of a way of melding the game to the theme of moving around planets, so it's forgiveable. I'd prefer the next Mario game to be more traditional in the platforming sense -- of course using the Wii-mote in intuitive ways though.

Here another gem from you before the reveal of this so-called "abomination"

LOL what a surprise, Banjo coming out after Mario Galaxy. They will just copy Mario and try and improve on the formula, you can bank on it.

Guess you can't bank on that so much, eh?

I mean "abomination"? GTFO.

It's hard to enjoy a game that comes out as a bait and switch, even if it is good on its own merits. I'd be pretty upset if I picked up Super Paper Mario expecting a spiritual successor to New Super Mario Bros.

This really is quite telling.

As it should be. I make maybe one post a week. BK is one of my favorite games of all time. I've logged over 200 hours on it. I was planning on buying a 360 with my stimulus check JUST TO PLAY THIS GAME. I'm pissed about what they did to the franchise.

If this were a new IP, I would look at it, watch a few videos, realize it isn't for me, and move on.

RARE has shown much more creativity with this title. I'm wondering what the other environments will look like, so far we had the mechanical theme and I think I saw a short clip from an ice area in one of the trailers. My favorite so far is the medieval setting. This game is awesome.

That's one of the problems I have with Mario. Same old thing, every generation.

Did people complain when Mario Galaxy added gravity to the equation? No. Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts is still looks to be BK at heart, just with a new vehicle building feature that will help to get to certain parts of the game.

Its not like they turned it into BKX racing or something.

EDIT: What...how can you log over 200 hours on a platformer?

Why do you need fins when you have wings, and why do you need propellers when you have legs? Oh, and the flying was very controlled in the previous games. Only from certain spots, only at certain times, and only to accomplish certain objectives.

Maybe they are trying to steal the GUMMI SHIP idea from Kingdom Hearts. It's just wrong. Banjo looks like SORA, Tooie is like DONALD...when will it stop

Now you can do it whenever you want, however you want. Natural evolution. Thanks for setting that up for me.

Dude, the trailer came out just now. There's a difference between a hidden feature that came out years after release and that not everybody would have heard about, and discussing something in a trailer that came out today.

Crushed said:

No problem. What's the point of game design when you can just let people do whatever they want wherever they want however they want.

In case you missed it, I like LINEAR GAMES. I don't want to customize, I don't want to build. I'm OK with combining, as long as it's predefined, ala early adventure games.

I don't think open world is a natural evolution of a franchise which had always been linear.
