Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

Loonz said:
Having loved the N64 Banjos, I've watched the trailer and the other videos of this new Banjo game and I don't like it, at all.

Yeah, you can have fun experimenting with all the pieces of vehicles, creating new ones and all of that, sure. But that's not what I expect from a Banjo game. In fact, I don't want to turn upside down junk to make a vehicle to reach some high place when I could do that by miself before, I don't want to customize anything in my platform game, nor build anything for fuck's sake.

If I want to build something I play Sim City, not Banjo. If I want to customize something I play Need for Speed or Forza Motorsport, not Banjo. Why do I have to shoot guns in my platform game?... there are plenty of other games to shoot things. I'm sorry, but I don't understand all of this changes in my beloved game.

I'm not feeling a lot the art style they are choosing for the game also. But that is the very least ot its problems IMO. It could grow on me. But the "go&create&blow-things-away" part... I don't think so.

And STFU Crushed, you are being a fucken idiot in this whole thread. If someone has something to say about what we have saw of the game, being good or bad, has the right to freely express himself without a bunch of angry disagreeing people coming after him for doing it.

EDIT: *Removed because of a lame attempt at trying to be funny, but the point below still stands *

Seriously man chill.

Fair enough, we have different requirements.

Absolutely. Hell, I've logged hundreds of hours into BK. I've never once said this is going to be a bad game, or said it's at a predisposition to even be less enjoyable by other people. All I've said is that I'm not into the new direction. And I get flamed because evidently it's not a new direction. Well, it sure as hell isn't more of the same.

lol, *look, he jumps THERE.... and... THERE!!! PLATFORMING CONFIRMED!!!!* Well that's just great.

LOL there's a vehicle! No platforming possible at all ever CONFIRMED? Threads need hyperbole to live long and "prosper."

Banjo needs a bit more weight to him. In those 2 gifs where he jumps onto a box and jumps onto a pole his body sort of flaps around like it's hollow.
I agree. It doesn't look any different from old school 3D Mario or Banjo, but given the new emphasis on apparent physics with the world objects and the vehicle component behavior, it would be nice to see Banjo fine tuned to adhere to the new and more physics-bound world he lives in. Needs more heft and sense of weight for sure.

Looking again at the videos, there's definitely quite a bit of promise. As long as the game will build the Gummi Ships for me, I'm all for it.

"Space" is a setting, not a game play mechanic.
But without straw men, where would these threads be?

Not impressed in the least. I would have actually considered buying it if Rare would have made a true sequel to the N64 titles. Rare is deader than dead. Viva Pinata is the only game that has really impressed me and they continue to fuck up their original IPs. Nintendo did the right thing by letting them go and Microsoft overpaid by a ton.

no comic sans. digital strip is better, not perfect but definitely better.

the gameplay screenshots still show comic sans. of course i don't know which one's the more recent version.

This is precisely why the platforming genre has been "dead" for a long time.
I say screw 'more of the same'..and I applaud Rare for actually pushing the genre forward.

Also, I didn't say it needed to be more of the same. I said I would have been happy with more of the same. There's a reason sequels exist. I can't honestly believe Banjo fans would have been disappointed with more of the same. Better graphics, some gameplay changes, new levels, more charm, more humor. I mean it's been 8 years, the game would've been different. I find it hard to believe someone would still be a Banjo fan, anticipating the second sequel, just to see that it's remaining true to its roots and say "YAWN, more of the same."

Especially when we rarely get solid entries in the platform genre. I understand new people being interested in the game, though. Lots of people love the user-created/customizable/open type of design. And there's no reason to think the charm and humor won't still be there. A new system, a new target audience...and I doubt there are many people out there like me who were planning on buying a 360 for this game.

For some God forsaken reason I read the last 8 or whatever pages it's been since I left this thread, and I have nothing to add to everyones bickering. Having read it all though, I feel like I have to say something to justify all that wasted time.

God damn is this game gonna be BAAAAAAAAALLIN'!

Oh, and people need to realize that vehicular platforming is extremely possible, and has been used from early 2d games (the famous Rare Battletoads level!) to recent levels (Jak games).

I don't like this vehicle aspect at all. I would be much more enthused about just "a hi-res version of Tooie".

Well as long as it doesnt turn out like Rare's other "new direction for series" Perfect Dark Zero, im good.

I can't say I would have been disappointed with more of the same but after seeing this I'm happy they're not going for more of the same.

This looks pretty decent. :D

I kinda like the vehicle stuff. I like how he put the spring on it, then added a propeller and used it together with the spring to give it flight in mid-air. That was pretty cool.

This might be the DUMBEST FUCKING THREAD EVER.

Are we seriously talking about THE FACT THAT THE GAME USES COMIC SANS?

Yes, it's annoying if I get IMed by someone using that font. But it kind of fits the game better than verdana or something. STFU. IT'S BANJO KAZOOIE.

If I want to go run around in outer space i'll play Mass Effect, not Mario Galaxy.

:lol

Yeah, that was a little overreacting. What I really wanted to say about what I've saw of this Banjo 3 until now is that if RARE wants to make a new IP with these new gameplay elements I'm 100% cheering behind them. I would approve that, I'd applause that. Because if they work hard on it, it could be fun, like "really fun", and that's why all people here play videogames: they are fun.

Why use the Banjo IP then?. If in RARE are using it for nostalgic value, trying to catch the classic Banjo franchise lovers, they are doing it WRONG. This game barely resembles those on N64 IMO, in its gameplay development at least. That's the reason I don't understand what are they trying to do. If they want to make a game about vehicles and customization and such things it's okay, but create a new IP: thinking about it, maybe it would be better for them not having to use Mumbo or other Banjo related things, that doesn't match with the new gameplay or style or whatever at all.

That's one of the problems I have with Mario. Same old thing, every generation.

SM64 was alright, SMS sucked, while SMG was very good. Not the same thing at all.

Fixed.

Are there Rare virals here?

Does anyone know if Banjo can level up now?

Here another gem from you before the reveal of this so-called "abomination"

Guess you can't bank on that so much, eh?

I mean "abomination"? GTFO.

In that thread I already said I was wrong, but that is neither here nor there. What Rareware has done is used the B-K name to sell a game that has nothing to do with B-K core mechanics.

To me, it sounds like building vehicles is an integral part of the game, but that it would also break up the flow of the game. Some vehicles won't work if you don't make them right. That sounds awful for a platformer, to be honest. Just watching the building parts is boring.

If you can just use premade vehicles the entire game, it might not be so bad. But BK and BT had awesome platforming mechanics and I don't see any of that going on in any of the footage, let alone platforms...

It will probably be an enjoyable... whatever. But definitely a strange experience that isn't very befitting of the license. Also very strange graphics that may be technically impressive but aren't very artistically pleasing. Why is Banjo and a couple characters so angular, but nothing else? It's like a mishmash of totally different styles. And it doesn't work for me, but I expect that from Rare. Just not this badly.

Imo that video looked awesome. I can't wait for the game. The video was mainly vehicle stuff though, I hope there's at least 70% platforming. But the Banjo magic seems to have been retained.

So let me get this straight, for a game to be defined as a platformer it must contain a series of floating platforms that the character can jump on in a linear fashion?

Can someone clarify that this is indeed not 1990?

He rubs people the wrong way sometimes, he has a good heart though.

Some people are just stuck in the past, man.
What can ya do.

He was a bit energetic about it, but really he wasn't on his own.

Hopefully it's just a short ban so he'll calm down and stop having to talk about this for today.

whats the point of having to build things that fly when you have a gigantic fucking bird living in a backpack you have to carry around.
