but instead of having to run back to the spot where you launch into the air like the first two, you now have to find your vehicle, repair it to the form you like, and so on.

this game is going to be just as tedious as the last one :(

Group hug!

I think I want a 360 for BK3.

If there was any game for 360 I'd really want this would be it. That's why I had such vast anticipation for it. So what if it isn't exactly what I had hoped for? I'll live.

But still blowing up Mario wasn't a good idea for a huge number of reasons.

Just watched both videos. Nice trailer. The boat cruising and helicopter flying in particular looks fun; it made me think of the neat sense of control (and environment) back in Wave Racer 64 and Pilotwings 64 (respectively). The vehicle building could be an awesome metagame as well.

I had hoped they would copy Mario Galaxy and went with level-based 3D linear platforming.

If anything it was the complexity and over-collecting that ruined platformers for me when they went 3D. Mario Galaxy changed that....why didn't Rare just rip them off?

This game does not look fun, and I think it will tank. The gameplay doesn't look approachable to kids, and the style doesn't look approachable to adults. Graphically, I'm not really impressed either. I'm sorry to guys, I just had hoped I'd be doing some awesome platforming in beautiful environments....not building....vehicles?

build a new one then...maybe they will allow that.

They seriously need to just scrap it and start over because this has received a disastrous response. How hard was it to give fans a legitimate platformer? The 360 is absolutely starved when it comes to that genre and I still can't believe they went away from it. This game will get buried if it's released this Fall.

All I fucking want is Banjo 3. That's it.

I know people bitched that BT was just more of the same. But though somewhat tired, it was still an unusually good 3D platformer/adventure game, IMHO. That's what I want.

While that video was gorgeous, it only showed off what looks to be shitty vehicle driving/flying mechanics. Fuck, that couldn't be further from what I wanted.

That said, if the game's gonna have loads of collection and the collecting leads to new parts and components, that's at least a pretty nice step up for the genre. But if all I'm building are shitty cars and planes... blech.

Man, I hope they don't shit this one up like they did Perfect Dark Zero... :(

Edit - Haha, this thread cost crushed his sanity and posting privs?

LOL, no it isn't

Just say the trailer now, Rare Please tell me this game won't only focus on cars?

That's the impression I got from the trailer. Hopefully it isn't the case.

Would of much preferred the original BK with some HD paint and minor revisions to the game play mechanics. Then again, basing all my opinions off of a 2 minute debut trailer is rather dumb.

You are so late to the party, we have moved onto the acceptance phase. Trolling was five pages back.

you clearly missed the tight rope walking
Was that all the walking? You are probably not like the people who played Banjo 8-10 years ago. You do know most of it was all cars, WHERE ARE YOU GEORGE, WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, I THOUGHT U SAID FOR US TO BE EXCITED?

Right now, everyone at Rare is reading this thread and... FACEPALM.GIF DUH.GIF

Oh wait, they're not, because previews are being generally - and rightly so - enthusiastic and they don't care!!!!

Show me a triple A platformer that Microsoft has that can compete with Mario Galaxy or Ratchet and Clank.

Mario Galaxy I will give you, but ratchet?. It was a fun game but certainly not on the same level as mario. IMO Ratchet was a perfect example as to why the genre has to evolve. More of the same in an overly long game, got a little repetitive imo.

That doesn't make a difference. IGN, 1up, etc. could call it the greatest game ever made, but that doesn't change the fact that Rare has pissed off their fan base.

Gotta suck being producers and engineers to hear people constantly bash their work. For no good reason, as if they put 15 hours into it.

Good times.

1 ) they showed they've taken distance with Mario's codes ?

2 ) XBLA Perfect Dark
3) People expected this to be a high-pedigree platformer and got a potential decent "vehicular platformer"

4) This might be good and therefore praise- and defense-worthy

5) MS has 'the cool mascot'

...

I take that back. A small number of major reasons.

This is more of a platformer than R&C. That is definite just looking at the trailer and other videos. We get it, you want 1998 in HD. I don't. I wasn't all that fond of Mario Galaxy. Novel concept? Sure, but it largely feels like the same game I've been playing since 1996

They did? I look over at places like Rare Witch Project, were we talk Rare 24/7 and we seem to be pretty happy there.

I just can't get over how many people Rare have disappointed with this game. They'll be kicking themselves to know they could have sold millions with a simple trad-platformer.

For all those who would've preferred we just follow the formula, please may I present my quote of the day, from Gregg Mayles. Let's not forget that Gregg is essentially Banjo's Dad, being his original creator and all.

"If we're going to take a large portion of our lives doing another Banjo game, let's at least try and do something it might be remembered for rather than being, 'hey, remember Banjo 3? It was crap. It was worse than the other two'. "

Ok seriously..Youre kidding yourself if you think half the people hating on Banjo 3 in this thread are actually fans of the series let alone fans of the system its on.

The Wired (Kohler?) impressions sound great. The interview with the programmer on B-K: N&B was nice, too. The next video coming out of Rare needs to show off a given challenge in the game and then needs to proceed to show off the various ways one can attempt to satisfy the requirement for success. Sort of like seeing all of the contestants' various vehicles in a Red Bull challenge. Also, do a better job of showing off how the platforming bridges with the vehicle building and use. Listen to me, Rare. Do as I say. :hypnotizes Rare staff reading GAF

This is exactly my position, better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.

Did this thread really needed the banning of Crushed reaaaaaaaally???

I doubt it.

Crushed wasnt overboard, he just had a differnt opinion.

And this guy is right.

Nostalgia in gaming should be bound to old games, cherish them people. And let the industry move forward.

Well you know how change works George, at first people are scared of it, but eventually they may come around and see that it was necessary and for the better. :D

A casual read through this thread shows a lot of disappointment from many demographics. Sure, there are trolls, but there have been many, many posters that have made their legitimate disappointments loud and crystal clear. A lot of people wanted a traditional platformer and they did not get it. Are you denying this?

I'm not a part of the fan base of their old games... perhaps that's why I don't mind thi new direction. But still, I'm surprised at the reaction.

Hell, this is so weird, I spend most of my time at GAF in PS3 threads, because most of the incoming games that I really really want are in that platform... and now that I see some really interesting 360 exclusives like Banjo and Fable 2, I get here and everyone is slagging them off, either based on gameplay not being what is expected or some not so good screens, despite already having seen the game in motion before. Even Too Human... with people saying they won't buying it due to the "gimped" co-op. Hell, I'm gonna buy the game just because it looks great and I expect a great story from SK. 360 seems not to be getting too much love from GAF these days. :-S
