Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

They seriously need to just scrap it and start over because this has received a disastrous response. How hard was it to give fans a legitimate platformer? The 360 is absolutely starved when it comes to that genre and I still can't believe they went away from it. This game will get buried if it's released this Fall.

Bullcrap. This is the best move Rare could have done. Evolving the genre is exactly what is needed. Platformers don't need to be stuck in the 90's.

From the presskit:
Fun right out of the box. Don’t worry if you aren’t the world’s greatest inventor or want to skip the workshop and get straight to the action, because “Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts” comes with a fully loaded experience right out of the box. Pre-built vehicles are included so players can jump right in and get started, with many more contraptions available for purchase throughout the adventure using the in-game currency system of musical notes.

:lol :lol :lol he got banned for defending a game.
I love neogaf

Btw wasn't everything shown so far have been videos of the overworld?
Everything else written mentions traditional worlds connected to the hub world.

Vehicles in the large hub world & traditional platforming in the 6 themed levels! sound pretty good to me.

For all those who would've preferred we just follow the formula, please may I present my quote of the day, from Gregg Mayles. Let's not forget that Gregg is essentially Banjo's Dad, being his original creator and all.

"If we're going to take a large portion of our lives doing another Banjo game, let's at least try and do something it might be remembered for rather than being, 'hey, remember Banjo 3? It was crap. It was worse than the other two'. "

LOL look how change has effected your company, from one of the greats to a mediocre washout after the N64. Instead of keeping the same mechanics and working around it ala Mario Galaxy, you redo the whole game and slap Banjo Kazooie in order to sell more copies.

Answer me this Batman, what would a witch doctor know about mechanics? LOL you guys are pulling a Mario Bros 2 on us.

That doesn't make a difference. IGN, 1up, etc. could call it the greatest game ever made, but that doesn't change the fact that Rare has pissed off their fan base.

Speak for yourself dude, I'm a fan of Rare and the Banjo games and I'm loving this stuff - I'd take this over a standard HD update any day. Gaming would be fucking depressing if devs like Rare didn't take a chance with ambitious new ideas, the game looks like it's going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait to play it for myself.

So let me get this straight, for a game to be defined as a platformer it must contain a series of floating platforms that the character can jump on in a linear fashion?

Can someone clarify that this is indeed not 1990?

Yup, getting from platform to platform is at that heart of a platformer, but of cousre getting there can be achieved in many, many, many different ways.

Even die hard Too Human heads dont get banned for supporting their beloved game, even when its clear its a big turd. So why did Crushed have to get banned?

Is there any sane reason as to why Crushed was banned? It may be in his typical hate it or love it style, but he was just defending his opinion on the game.

Most are glad that it's not same old another Banjo with upgraded graphics. If it were, it would have been troll heaven calling it Banjo 2.5.

As long as gameplay turns out fun, all is good.

Without all of the needless vitriol, this is pretty much my feelings (just the game, not Rare commentary).

I like SMB2 though, so I'll just grit my teeth and pretend I'm in an alternate universe. The game's got potential.

Well, he took some claims people had and misconstrued them over and over and over in demeaning lolgifs.

You're so cool, man. You talked smack to an insider, can I be your friend?

This is more of a platformer than R&C. That is definite just looking at the trailer and other videos. We get it, you want 1998 in HD. I don't. I wasn't all that fond of Mario Galaxy. Novel concept? Sure, but it largely feels like the same game I've been playing since 1996

Oh please. Its was either a refinement or improvement over everything in SM64 and SMS and or introduced new conecpts. This shitty idea that innovation means you need to totally change the core of the game is a shitty stance. And Mario Galaxy played distictively distance from 64 or Sunshine, which were purely open world.

Crushed being banned is just one of those everyday events at GAF. He'll be back soon don't worry.

I wonder who banned him, though...

Why would he say 'hey, remember Banjo 3? It was crap. It was worse than the other two.'

Firstly, they could have just as easily been saying 'hey, remember Banjo 3, that game was amazing.'

Secondly, what's going to stop Banjo fans from saying 'hey, remember Banjo: Nuts and Bolts? It was crap. Worse than the other two.'

This quote, again, makes me think they should have just done this with a new IP. If you didn't want a third game to get compared to the first two Banjo games, then why make it a Banjo game?

Yeah that's the one part of Banjo 3 I find hard to believe. The witch doctor knowing something about mechanics definitely breaks the realistic world and characters that the prior games were known for.

Unfortunately for him, I think he has a reputation now.

A casual read through this thread shows a lot of disappointment from many demographics. Sure, there are trolls, but there have been many, many posters that have made their legitimate disappointments loud and crystal clear. A lot of people wanted a traditional platformer and they did not get it. Are you denying this?

Some people wanting Banjo64 HD is totally fine, but when you say this:

They seriously need to just scrap it and start over because this has received a disastrous response.

Youre acting as if this thread on gaf with 30 people bitching about how they wanted a 10 year old game with 10-years-later polish is even remotely reason for them to "scrap the idea."

If it reeked of a bad idea, it wouldnt be getting the extremely positive previews its been getting.

Crushed has not departed from the core mechanics of his style of posting. Before he was posting nothing of substance and now he is just posting nothing. It's basically the same thing.

If soon is 3 months.....yeah.

3 months for defending Banjo.

I wonder if anyone got banned in the day for defending FLUDD in SMS. Or for Luigi's Mansion not being a platformer.

He did it a lot more intelligently then most of the defense force, cause he actually argued points instead of just saying screw the haters. Unlike some

You know who the fuck you are

I'll probably still say "hey, remember Banjo 3. It was crap" :P

Just depends on how the game turns out.

If everyone thought this way, we would eventually see our old favorite settings and characters fade away. There is no need for stagnation in gaming IMO.

Anyways, those who played Crackdown and saw the potential for what a next gen free roaming platformer might look like got their wish today.

Was the blowing up of the recreated 8 bit Mario a nod from Rare about their history with Nintendo or was it to disrespect Nintendo in some way?

...

Came across as a "Fuck You Nintendo" instead of a nod to their roots.

The two (very short) sections from the trailer that had the rope walking and Banjo grabbing a box look great and looked like the natural HD evolution of old Banjo gameplay, but why was only so little of it shown?

.... I'll assume to sell the idea on the blueprint/create a ship aspect of the game and that sections of just Banjo+Kazzoie-Ship are still there in a larger quantity, its just that Rare thought it best to focus on the new direction of the title.

Whats up with Mumbo? From the trailer it looks like Kazooie uses his staff. Is Mumbo still in his shack, except this time adjusting your whip instead of transforming you to the alternate modes of transformation?

WTF? Who banned him?

I've taken a look at his latest posts and didn't find anything ban-worthy...

Each challenge in Banjo requires you to use a vehicle of some sort. A stock one will be given to you, but to truly excel and completely finish the game you'll have to construct your own.

Kinda expected that much. Including vehicles which can do almost all of it is a good idea though.

I'm afraid you might be wasting your time. Most of the people complaining have likely never even played the original banjo games and know only what they know about it from youtube videos.

There's definitely some real banjo fans in here, but then we have many more bad actors as well. I understand concerns over the originally mis-understood involvement of the vehicles and I even understand some that may not be totally sold on the art style yet, but to not be remotely excited or to claim they are no longer interested or that Rare ruined banjo is clear sign that no matter what this new game was doing, people weren't going to be pleased. Just continue doing your thing and make us a fantastic game. The real fans will show their support.

Every developer should learn from Denis Dyack. You simply can't win over some people because they've already made up their minds about your game. Nothing that is said about it no matter how much sense it makes will reach their ears.

Funnily enough, we address that very issue in the game, but as for how you'll just have t wait and see.

He lasted a day longer than he had a right to, he should have gotten a ban yesterday for publicly and repeatedly soliciting for someone to buy him LostWinds.

The more I think about it, the more I feel this game should be called Blast Corps 2.
I'm not sure what you're getting at, this doesn't resemble Blast Corps at all.

Unless you mean this should be sidelined immediately and all resources should be funneled into developing Blast Corps 2 instead? In that case, I agree 1000%.

Rare has some pretty nice digs to work at. :D

You haven't paid attention to spiral mountain being in so many of the pictures?

Look at the top left, I'm 99% positive that is Spiral mountain.

I hope there is in-game radio stations in the new Banjo game as GTA4 and Saints Row have them. It adds to the atmosphere. :D

The opportunity for humor there would be tremendous.
