Banjo-Threeie Debut Trailer!

Any more questions for the interview with Mayles this afternoon?

Are they thinking about DLC that includes new single player areas, challenges, and unique parts?

Can you ask him if Kazooie is going to be able to get out of the backpack and walk around to carry Banjo? Like in the old games, you used her to go faster or walk up steep slopes. I really hope that remains at least.

I got some questions for rare.

1. WHEN THE FUCK IS KI3 COMING YOU DIPSHITS!?!?
2. Is there any plans to bring your old n64 games to xbla?
3. After we finished the Banjo game can we still run around in the towns?
4. I see that not all of Kazooies moves are gone, can we gradually learn them back in the game?
5. You guys made a sequel to VP but no Kameo? WTF?
6. Exactly how many dev teams does Rare have, is it just one per barn?
7. Do have any games planned for next yeard, or do we have to wait another two years?

Btw, you dont have to use my exact wording.

Another question why is kazooie still in the back pack.?

Will Banjo #2 have an "evil twin" 'tache in the co-op challenges?

Can we expect an official soundtrack for B-K: N&B like with Kameo?

McDragon said:
+ now that VP2 is officially announced, will we get VP1/2 soundtrack as well?

Can you save any and all of your vehicle designs, so you don't have to rebuild them again and again? My guess is yes, because it would be... silly, if you couldn't.

Will there be a water slide in the game?

Nolan. said:
about Kameo since I really liked that and Vp. So it would just be about if they plan on doing any more of it. Though I think someone kind of asked that already.

Will the soundtrack be orchestrated?

No, the mechanics are different. I can't turn on a dime without modding a vehicle to do it. I can't glide without modding/buying a vehicle to do it. About halfway through BK, you pretty much had every move you needed at your disposal, wherever you went, except for the jiggys that you needed to transform for. You won't have every move available to you wherever you go in this game, unless the on the fly modding is a lot more powerful than it's made out to be.

And again, you're boiling it down to accessibility. A lot of my enjoyment came from doing things in other forms, as essentially other characters. Having access to different locations via a new machine is different than having certain events happen when you access certain locations in a certain form, in gameplay and in story/atmosphere. Having the bees think your a bee after you access the hive as a bee is not the same as just being able to access a new location based on a new part you just got. You're still going to be Banjo, everyone is still going to treat you as a bear. There's not going to be variety in that sense. Sure there will be variety among the different NPCs, but again, it's very different.

Dude, that is the whole point of the vehicles, animal form or actual vehicle form. It's one of the underlying mechanics of the game. "Interacting" with another bee is a superficial byproduct. Did it give it charm? Sure, okay.

You need a powerup to access the jiggy in the beehive; you need a powerup (now they're called parts) to access a jiggy in the sky. You're still using *dun dun dunnnnn* powerups.

It looks to me like Banjo still has some moves of his own, but the modding of the powerups means I won't have to memorize 40 different button combinations. That has far greater accessibility than the memorization of a damned move list.

Plz go plai ur script3d games and leave this thread alone until you come to your senses. I have a feeling that won't happen until you get to play it.

Why did they have to disrespect Mario? RARE aren't relevant, they haven't earned the right to do that! That disrespectful and mean and Mario is really hurt about it.

Please don't take this seriously.

Plus, hopefully they'll let you save your various designs so you can summon your "power-ups" at any given time.

Hey, there's a question for you.

Nah my question would be about Kameo since I really liked that and Vp. So it would just be about if they plan on doing any more of it. Though I think someone kind of asked that already.

On some of the construction room screens it says "Garage Alcoves" which would suggest some sort of storage.

You can pick a pre-fabricated ride or start from scratch, and you can save your creations, as well.
I don't know if it's covered by other previews or not but I would think that you can store a certain amount of blueprints to be used on demand.

But then, it's the creativity and ingenuity of the gamer that is going to spell success. A rocket works pretty nicely as a means of blasting a car along the ground. But what if you put a few on the bottom of the car? Now you have a hover vehicle. A spring works well for hopping along (you can create a vehicle that has no engines and just bounces if you want), but what if you put a spring on the side of a vehicle? Now you've got an offensive weapon in a race. It's up to you to solve each challenge. Rare is just providing the tools.

Too many blocks and you'll be left with a gas guzzling tank. Too few and you'll find enemies don't have much trouble bouncing you around. Put that rocket on backwards and you might find yourself spiraling out of control when you fire the engines. In the hands of the masses, we're going to see some truly special designs. Rare gave us a glimpse at that future with a car made to look like a profile of Mario…which the demoer then sent a volley of missiles at to destroy.

That's what's so awesome about what they're doing. You can do anything you want, but you will obviously suffer the consequences.
You can't just make the fastest vehicle ever and be sure to own everyone in multiplayer.

From the Wired hands on :
Before being thrown into a multiplayer game (and, yes, all this works in a multiplayer environment, which may make Banjo gaming's closest equivalent to Robot Wars) I set about making an enormous monster-truck wheeled beast. It starts as a bicycle, but proves somewhat unstable. It becomes an odd three-at-back-one-at-front bike. Then another two wheels at the front. And a small one at the back. And about six rocket launchers, which when I initially fired in an early version, pretty much flipped the contraption.

As the race kicks off, I'm left with a glorious twisted mad-machine that can barely move, let alone compete. And I'm laughing very hard indeed at my obvious over-reaching ambition and the unalloyed joy of creation. An aborted creation, admittedly, but still joy.
http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/05/hands-on-banjo.html#more

Your vehicle has to be "physically possible" (in some way). You can't just put a dozen space ship type reactors and expect to go faster because of that.

Thanks everyone for the questions.

I have passed them.

He may visit the thread later and check some more before the interview which is at 19pm GMT+1 i think.

I´ll just be a messenger, i´ll get all your questions and pass them to him.

From what he has told, the interview is gonna be shared with some other webs/media so they´ll have even more limited time and i suppose he will choose what to ask in the end.
Not media - community sites. I wanted the good people that run all the Rare fansites to have the opportunity to chat with Gregg, so I've set up a Live chat.

It runs for an hour and only 10 or so people have been invited, so there should be plenty of time for people to ask all their questions.

Let me assure you that there's not one iota of an in-game feature that isn't dripping in traditional Banjo style. The whole atmosphere of the game screams Banjo. I'm sure you'll have the opportunity to see this for yourself before the game is released.

Oho, well that answers my question.

I guess the follow-up, then, is how much space do we have?

Oh pleaaase ask them if the multiplayer will also be Offline, VS and/or Co-op.

I don't know who told devs that we no longer needed offline multiplayer, but he certainly was dumb.

Agreed. All this reminds me of people saying Wind Waked didn't "fit the spirit of the Zelda franchise". WTF. Like the guy who created Zelda doesn't even know what fits in the universe and what doesn't.

George, are future releases of information about the game already planned ahead? Cause of what I can hear in the videos, I really want an MP3 of Showdown Town. ;)

I only played the first Banjo and I liked the trailer. The Mario part was uncalled for, but the rest seems very interesting.

George, no need to remove what you originally posted.

you fucking NAILED IT.

I agree 100%. You don't tell the original creator of the franchise what to do with the characters and universe he created.

Criticism is fine, but sometimes people go way overboard. As the original creator he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt.

I agree that criticism is fine, and crazy contraptions just doesn't feel like Banjo or even part of the Banjo Universe. They had a perfectly good franchise they could have used instead, JFG would have fit the bill completely.

Instead they took B-K plus all the characters and change them to fit the new direction the game has taken which imo is a horrible decision. It will be interesting to see just how much the world feels like Banjo when in the videos they moved away from magic to technology.

If Banjo can't tranform into a pumpkin, crocodile or any other crazy creature I will be extremely pissed and will not purchase this game.

LOL what a surprise, Banjo coming out after Mario Galaxy. They will just copy Mario and try and improve on the formula, you can bank on it.

krzyspc said:
Yes I do, and they have had over 1 1/2 to copy Mario Galaxy, perhaps even more.

krzyspc said:
LOL look how change has effected your company, from one of the greats to a mediocre washout after the N64. Instead of keeping the same mechanics and working around it ala Mario Galaxy, you redo the whole game and slap Banjo Kazooie in order to sell more copies.

Answer me this Batman, what would a witch doctor know about mechanics? LOL you guys are pulling a Mario Bros 2 on us.

Detective GAF delivers

I've read some more articles and a Banjo Submarine carrier is possible to build. This'll be the most fun game released in 2008, mark my words.

Much like Mumbo knowing mechanics, that type of transformation would totally ruin the realism of the game for me.

True, but that title should of gone to KI3:(

How can people STILL not get that instead of going to one point in the game, transforming, completing that point, and transforming back, is SOOO much worse than creating YOUR OWN transformation at any time?

Fingers crossed for some inaccesible well that you need to fly over and detach your wings/rotor to access with a sub! :D

WTF are you talking about? You could do that in B-K and was one of the best part of the game. Unless that was sarcasm then bravo, but it isn't about realism but staying true to the universe of the franchise. I would be pissed if they gave Mario a gun for example.

I love old Rare, the new one leaves much to be desired.

You never played B-K have you The transformation were limited in use, while the machines seem to be the focus. Huge difference as the transformations were minor and kept the game a platformer.

I have a few questions for Gregg.

1. What was Rare's reason for NOT letting Nintendo keep the rights to the rest of the Diddy Kong Racing properties (obviously Banjo and Conker already have their own fanchises) but Timber, Taj, everyone else was more or less considered to be still part of the DK series in spirit, Taj being in Donkey Kong Racing supported that feeling.

2. Speaking of which, WTF is up with Donkey Kong Racing? Will it be revived for the DS2? Does Nintendo or Rare own the code (or at least the "idea", which I imagine Nintendo is more than free to use anyways)?

3. Is Banjo still possible on the DS? Considering VP is on it, I don't see why Banjo wouldn't be.

4. If Banjo does come to the DS, will he retain his Nuts & Bolts design, or will he go back to his previous design? As he did have it in his two GBA games!

5. It was said that DKR for the VC is "highly unlikely", but what is the real reason for that? Because of Banjo and Conker? If all else, just remove them I guess.

6. If DKR ever lands on the VC, would it be too difficult to JUST up the framerate, with no additional changes?
